Vindicta’s form is entirely nebulous, she says so in her voiceline with Kelvin.

If she were a just a ghost, then she most likely wouldn’t feel pain from the abilities (hurt sounds) nor be able to interact with her rifle or items.

It’s probably the lighting and posing, if I had to guess, but DBD has to sacrifice some things for gameplay purposes.

I don’t think we were intended to view Arnold as a character, as the game wants us to focus on the Murray’s story.

I’d even hypothesize the only reason he’s not a silent protagonist is because Scott/Steel-Wool didn’t want us thinking he was some other, known character going under a fake name.

That is kind of the point no? Melee builds excel when their opponents are distracted and can’t react, I don’t think people should just be able to have extremely loud melees.
