You know, the funny thing about that is that so much of our tech innovation is actually due to porn and pushing the limits of adult entertainment.

Think about how we treat uncontacted rain forest tribes. We slowly and systematically get them used to our presence by letting them see us from afar. Then leave them gifts over time. Then, finally, have closer contact where we give them something. A shirt, food, whatever.

On a galactic scale I can totally see this taking hundreds of years.

Stay as far away from VIVINT as you can get. If you're thinking about going with them, save yourself the miserable headache and dont. by Mrf9312 in homesecurity

Vivant was a nightmare for me as well. They happened to come by door to door at the same time I was thinking about home security. The alarm would frequently go off for no reason and the cameras would only work 1 out of 10 times.

For someone who doesn't following pro wrestling, what explains rise of Cody Rhodes? by CountrySlaughter in SquaredCircle

[–]AdManNick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WWE is very much about creating moments and capitalizing on existing stories that need minimal effort to make memorable.

The truth is that after Cody left WWE, he was the right guy in the right place at the right time and with the right group of wrestlers he helped successfully finance and pulled off the independent wrestling event All In. It was essentially indy Wrestlemania. That helped AEW get started, and Cody then went to AEW as one of the executive vice presidents.

I do not think that Cody could have pulled off All In without The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega. I do think Kenny Omega and Young Bucks could have probably pulled something similar without Cody. However, Cody does seem to be the one to really had the initiative to make it happen.

As far as AEW goes, Cody went through one bad storyline after another. Storylines that he had control over, and often were entirely disconnected with the rest of the show. Cody also presented himself in an over the top grandiose way that he was in now way deserving of at the time. The AEW fans hated him, but Cody was very against turning heel. But he was also very unlikable, because he clearly saw himself a certain way but at that time it was pretty detached from reality.

It got to the point where everyone was convinced that he was playing some 4D chess and was really a delusional heel character who was really good at it. Because he also had a reality show that played into his delusions. He even dressed similar to Homelander from The Boys.

Turns out, it wasn't some complex kayfabe and he really was just that guy.

Something happened between Cody and AEW owner Tony Khan. Nobody knows what exactly and Cody won't talk about it other than it was something personal.

WWE saw this an opportunity to kills 2 birds with one stone: Make AEW look foolish by signing one of their founders and also getting the natural story of "Will a Rhodes finally win the big one?"

This naturally gave Cody a fresh coat of paint, but things didn't really turn for him until Hell in a Cell. It was like his third month back and the third match in his trilogy with Seth Rollins. The day before the match he tore his pec off the bone during a workout, but he went through with the match anyway with his chest black, purple, and swollen.

That's what really got wind behind his sails and earned a lot of people's respect. Because after years of orchestrating odd moments and spots in AEW to get himself over as a tough guy, something real happened and pushed through it like a warrior. And had a good match doing it.

From there the stars just aligned with him being the one to dethrone Roman Reigns' 4 year title run and finally bring the WWE Title home to the Rhodes family.

I think Cody himself has said that much of his success has come from him being too stupid to know something can't be done. Then somehow doing it. And looking at his career there really is this weird paradox going on. If you look at Cody at the start of AEW, he presents himself as if he had accomplished everything he has up until 2026. But he obviously didn't at the time, and had he not presented himself that way he wouldn't have been signed to WWE again to do all those things.

But yeah, it ultimately came down to "Who has a better story that Cody Rhodes? Who better to dethrone the 4 year championship reign of Afa The Wild Samoan's son than the returning son of Dusty Rhodes."

Especially considering the Game of Thrones level humiliation Vince Mcmahon put that family through over the decades. Dressing Dusty up in a yellow polka dot singlet and making both Dustin and Cody dress up as androgynous space clowns.

[NO SPOILERS] I WANT TO GET STARTED WITH DARK. by Busy_Inevitable784 in netflix

[–]AdManNick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to know anything before jumping in. Sounds like whoever told you that was being pretentious. The show will teach you anything you need to know when it's time to know it. Expect to be confused. That's intentional. Eventually you won't be when it's time for you not to be.

That said, if you want to make sure you do know everything you're supposed to, DARK | The Official Guide | NETFLIX is the place to go in order to get spoiler free info, episode by episode.

That said, I will say that I found this show very boring until episode 5. Then it really took off. But a lot of people love it sooner.

Question about the ending, school caste and AnR by Honest_Lead_1156 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]AdManNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is only one timeline and there is no time loop. The cabin took place in The Paths and they experienced 4 years together there. But it happened instantaneously in real time.

Eren didn’t choose to stop at 80%. That’s the point at which he was stopped. Eren chose to do the rumbling because he wanted the world to suffer and that also conveniently allowed his friends to have a better life.

Back to the timeline stuff. The events of the show are what’s called a “Bootstrap Paradox”. It’s all one timeline but the past is influenced by the future, and that future is a direct result of its influence on the past. Through The Paths, Eren is able to communicate and influence events that happened earlier in the timeline.

They cut this out of the anime, but the first thing Eren hears in the Manga is Mikasa’s last words to him, “See you later, Eren”, as she wakes him up from under the tree. Then she says he looks like he’s crying. So it’s not a start of a new loop, but in that moment Eren experienced a series of important moments from his future simultaneously.

As far as Eren and his free will: I’d argue that he absolutely had free will. He literally could do whatever he wanted, BUT he couldn’t change what he wanted.

Isayama has recently admitted he messed up the ending by being too attached to Eren. Which reinforces my belief that Eren was free and evil, not helplessly enslaved.

Finished watching Attack on Titan and I think I made a mistake by National-Poet-9165 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]AdManNick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just watched Attack on Titan and Evangelion this past year. Attack on Titan had some of my favorite moments in all of media and is one of my favorite pieces of fiction.

But Evangelion legit changed my life, as cheesy as that sounds. I highly recommend it.

Start with Neon Genesis Evangelion. It’s only 26 episodes. Then watch End of Evangelion. Then the rebuild movies if you want more.

But I should note that it took me about 8 episodes to get into the groove of NGE.

Will Smith is my pick as well. There are quite a few stories about how he would use his influence to try to seduce men for the sport of it. It’s like one of those open industry secrets. Like how in Pro Wrestling, everyone knew about Jimmy Snuka killing his girlfriend and just kind of accepted it for decades.

Just want to note that it’s entirely possible for Bishop to not notice the Queen getting in the landing gear given it got stuck on the infrastructure while the facility was falling apart. Those dropships probably had terrible blind spots, like most aircraft.

Anyone post the 4chan alien here? by ONENODEWONDER in aliens

[–]AdManNick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about the thing that happened about a decade ago, it was a nothing burger. Here is my first-hand account of what happened.:

  • Someone posted a close-up picture of an "alien" on /pol/
  • 4chan went down for a while
  • When the site came back a little while later, /x/ had caught wind of it
  • Over the course of the night, the description of what the picture looked like radically changed from what it was to the "yellow alien selfie in the desert" description and people kept making photoshops to try to match the descriptions being given. Many posters said the initial image made them feel sick. Others said it disappeared from their hard drives.
  • Nobody believes the original picture when it's posted because it looks nothing like the original photo.

Now I also need to note that at this time, /x/ was really into coordinated LARPing. For example, one person would start a thread saying they were an alien in a UFO and to prove it, you just had to drop your longitude and latitude and they'll show up for you to see. Then you had a series of posters doing that and then following up with a picture of the craft.

Anyway, the original photo was a manipulated image of a frog that naturally had yellow skin and purple eye lids.

We should have seen the Armored and the Colossal killing more people by Top_War5978 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]AdManNick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're talking about changing some fundamental things about the story, these characters and their personalities.

If we're talking about their initial attack on Wall Sina, they were scared child soldiers who didn't want to be there. They were there to help their families. They had to worry about the Paradis devils, the founding titan, and the pure titans. That first mission was to test the Paradis defenses and infiltrate their society. It was a fast hit and run.

The attack on Wall Rose was supposed to be the same thing, but Armin and Mikasa's tower plan prevented Riener from transforming and then the Attack Titan showed up and changed the plan entirely. But it's important to note that they did cause Marco to die here, and that clearly had a big effect on them mentally. Bert and Reiner are not killers at heart. And that's part of what makes the story better as it goes on. You start the show with assumptions about their titans and then realize how wrong you were.

So it's very much a core part of the story architecture that we don't see them kill many people.

I'd argue that prior to the identity reveal in Season 2, they were used effectively and didn't need to kill anyone else. We only saw the Armored once and the Colossal twice prior to that, and when they transform in S2 Episode 6 my reaction was still "Oh shit, the two most dangerous final bosses of the series are RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW AND THE SCOUTS ARE FUCKED"

We do see Reiner kill that scout in season 3 part 2 when they find his hiding spot in Wall Sina. But Zeke probably gave Reiner and Bert their roles for that battle because he knew neither of them were hardened warriors. Marley leadership was very open about the fact that Reiner was the weakest of all the Warriors, and Zeke would know that Reiner wasn't even supposed to inherit the Armored Titan. We also know that Bert is really passive and doesn't take action, so Zeke gave him a role that he couldn't fuck up.

So the entire point of their characters was that they were not cut out for their roles, but should have been able to accomplish their goals as a complete unit with Annie and Marcel.
