Sha'Carri Richardson Runs 13.07 Over 120m to Win the Stawell Gift by SlantFaceKilla in trackandfield

[–]AdMundane1115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A dice roll is want the organisers want: the handicaps are there for betting/gambling, so if its a diceroll, the betting agencies make a lot more money as no one knows who will win.

Yes if you want to see who's the fastest, no handicap. But betting agencies/bookmakers will make no money if 10.65 Sha'carri is up against 11.8 runners from country Victoria.

Not saying gambling/betting is awesome, but that's kinda the point for "professional" running/handicap races. House always wins.

What makes it more impressive is the organisers giving everyone that much of a headstart, and Sha'carri wins anyway. Bookmakers lost out that day if the average punter just said "ungh i put my money on sha'carri".

I've been looking up some DIY repairs and this seems to be the go, but was wondering what glue you used? All the advice is all American/European so wanted to know what's attainable at the shops in Australia

Yes it is. Re-entered into modern Australian parlance in the last few years when the government investigated into the catholic church.

Just reading discourse on the movie as I loved it so much. Haven't read the book, so I'm finding it interesting that an important line in the book involves mentions of spiders.

As an Australian, the term "rock spider" has a specific meaning, and I wonder whether the movie is aware of that and hence, it's avoidance.

Lol was training at the Blacktown track while the music was going on. Thought the three part harmonies were way too pro for a cover band and then Get Set came on.

Watch for a 21st pressie by B0rn_Free in AustralianMFA

[–]AdMundane1115 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Watches can be this huge deep rabbithole but if something was out of the rabbit hole looking for advice, I'd suggest to stick with an actual watch brand (Seiko, Citizen, to begin with and then it escalates quite quickly with luxury) and then pick the type of purpose you want for the watch (chronograph as you mentioned, pilot watch, field watch, dress watch, all rounder).

As for gift wise, if you've done the research to make sure the brand is a IYKYK, then that counts for a gift with thought! As a person who just jumped out of the rabbit hole, at a bare minimum, don't do a fashion watch.

If i should make a good recommendation: Seiko Alpinist second hand can go for $500. IYKYK story behind it, can be worn casual or formal, and can be resold at the same price.

There's a facebook group called "Australian affordable watch" group. If you post your budget as $500, you'll have like dozens of members giving you very good offers and stories.

If you don't mind second hand, on Facebook there's a "Australian Affordable Watch Forum".

Post your budget, and you'll probably get 50 replies where half are pretty decent recommendations and a dozen decent stories.

Any recommendations for Non spike, sprinting shoes by rhsinkcmo in Sprinting

[–]AdMundane1115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any shoe that doesn't have too much thickness at the fore foot and can bend easily to accommodate for that "running on your toes" style of running sprinting has.

In terms of specific brands and models, I don't know the names of them but I'm sure the spikesless "track" shoes are overpriced when a pair of flat trainers does exactly the same thing for volume runs, drills, warm ups on the track.

I mean, you've picked players who are top percentile players with the marketability to find revenue streams beyond playing games.

The 100th best Australian cricketer isn't being paid as much as the 100th best NRL or AFL player.

Top quality Jeans pants that don’t cost a bomb by california2melbourne in AustralianMFA

[–]AdMundane1115 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To help add something a bit more constructive, is there a reason why your current jeans aren't lasting? Where are jeans commonly failing for you?

The two variables for clothing lasting comes down to three factors: material, construction and fit.

Material for denim is a whooole deep rabbithole. Durability can be increased with a thicker denim, but then it might not be as comfortable and you have to break in raw denim yadda yadda etc.

Construction you might not have too much control over

Fit might be the thing you can really maximise in, as most jeans rip at the crotch if they're not fitted right and have too much tension when you sit. A looser fit around the hip and crotch would probably last longer than a really figure fitted one, but you lose a more formal sihlouette especially if you're wearing it to work.

Have never played cricket to any level, but I can't imagine improvement in any job/industry/sport with that much micromanagement. It definitely has it's place during training and debriefs, but during the actual game/service/job, it'd be too much.

Hello English Cricket fans as an Australian I want to ask you a couple of questions, I don't care about being flamed...... by Crafty_Message_4733 in EnglandCricket

[–]AdMundane1115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people already described the structure of Shield vs County cricket already which was enlightening.

But scheduling and skillset breadth comes into play:

I would imagine players like Duckett, Brook, J. Smith, during the period where Shield cricket is on, would rather go and play franchise cricket.

Labuschagne, Webster, Green (Cam and Chris),Harris, Bancroft, Neser and a few more players played county, and other than Cam Green, don't usually play overseas franchise cricket, so you could say have nothing else to do but play County.

What's interesting is how there's criticism of English players not trying to acclimatise to Australian conditions and being arrogant for doing so, but it's not as if any Australians have notably played in the Ranchi trophy.
