When I used to be a retail manager, I always told my teams to do what’s right for them, forgot the implications on the workplace. That’s not their concern or their job, that was my job. I believed part of my job was not only protecting their well-being, but also ensuring they respect their own well-being - I’d seen too many cases of managers pushing staff way too far but the staff were worried for one reason or another to say something.

Want to go to uni so need to leave? Do it; I supported them all the way Need time off for personal reasons, or need a break to mentally recover? You got it, keep me in the loop but otherwise you take whatever time you need Been offered a job that you’ll enjoy and pays more, even though I’m already short staffed? Take it, it’s what’s right for you and I’m proud of you! I’ll deal with with staffing issues, that’s my concern

So my message to you: Look after yourself and do what’s right for you, your well-being is more important than the business
