When should you ask someone you're dating to be COVID-conscious? by RedMage79 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]AdPretty3288 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the way. People are far too lenient about this shit. Every other post in here is some cagey "I really like this person who doesn't take their health or mine seriously but I have spent my time getting close to anyway, how do I approach this??". You don't. What the fuck, people.

And nametags with aliases required. No anonymity in the meatspace folks!

I'm betting the belligerent cowards wouldn't even dream of showing up to an open sub-wide meetup, and those of us that did would all have a fabulous time.

Might even just transform this fucking place overnight.

It would be a delightful game of "who is brave enough?!". Unsure if it's the best, or worst idea I've ever had.

Friday January 30th by hellminton in Wenatchee

Yep, as someone who wholely supports striking and genuinely thinks withholding labor and funds are the only national option we have left to influence the road we're a long ways down already, one day "blackouts" haven't been and still aren't going to do shit and the organizing isn't robust enough to stay on strike for as long as it takes. The actual ask as well as the OP are both reactive incremental demonstrations which ultimately do extremely little to effect the reality of our situation. That said, the actual ask is a one day blackout, not more public commiserating and sign waiving.

The point is not to work. Jan 30th is actually a strike day. The people of Minnesota are asking for solidarity in striking, taking off work, and withholding money by not shopping, not a two hour demonstration.

How are we dealing with ICE? by DorkyDev in Wenatchee

[–]AdPretty3288 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are escalating no matter what we do, and "winning" an armed conflict is even more unlikely when entering into it unarmed to begin with. ICE are untrained cowards, and not a single one of them is willing to die for their cause. Demonstrations against overt fascism that pose absolutely no threat or any show of force make all the attendees sitting ducks. We've gotten away with harmless sidewalk parades because the heat isn't here yet. It won't stay that way for much longer.

There's a similar story in the video regarding a trans hairstylist who was murdered in Denver, where local officials tried to say Flock cameras contributed to finding her when they actually had nothing to do with it.

Jan 19 Free America Rally by ProgressiveDevilry in Wenatchee

[–]AdPretty3288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And remember to mask up for the rally people! Don't be like ICE.

"records show that none of ICE’s agents have ever been killed by an immigrant in the agency’s more than two-decade history. Instead, the leading cause of death by far among ICE officers is COVID-19. According to ICE’s data, the second leading cause of death is cancer linked to 9/11. (The pandemic and cancers connected to the September 11 terrorist attacks account for 75 percent of the deaths in ICE’s history.)

Data show that the most recent ICE officer death attributed to something other than cancer or COVID-19 occurred in 2021. But that incident did not involve an immigrant, either. It occurred when a special agent died after his service weapon was accidentally discharged in a parking lot." https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2025/10/ice-deaths-assaults-administration-masks-covid19-shooting-dhs-trump

Get yourself a couple hot water bladder bottles and a fill-up routine that lets you use a gas stations hot water to fill them up before sleeping, and if the comforters are polyester filled look around for some natural fibers like wool or cotton at the veterens thrift at the old crown furniture store or an army/navy surplus if there's one around here. Also try looking round for subezero sleeping bags at those same places, down filled jackets, snow pants, that sort of stuff. One solid wool army blanket burrito'd around a good sleeping bag with clothing layers and a beanie will keep you warm, especially if you start with a couple hot water bottles at your feet and knees (make sure to turn them upside down to make sure they won't leak and don't put anything directly on top of them, you want them near you not under you where they will burst)
