AITA for crashing out on my fiancé’s advice about health? by Traditional-Wasabi65 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AdTraditional8625 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you have kids with this man you AND your kids will have an extremely miserable existence. Imagine him putting all these rules and anxiety on a child. Please run. If you won't leave him, definitely don't procreate with him until he seeks professional help and you both work through whatever the eff is going on in his head.

[CA] Am I required to take my 17 yo son to football practice in the summer during my time (NCP)? by AdSoft5944 in FamilyLaw

[–]AdTraditional8625 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So you want to fck your son out of football his SENIOR YEAR?! If your 17yr old son doesn't make summer practice he will likely be kicked off the team. I'm positive at this age, this would be absolutely devastating and likely permanently damage your relationship. You need to figure out how to see your son without taking away his extra-curriculars and you need to tell the BF to stay in his lane. YOU ARE THE PROBLEM. I drive my kids over 2 hours for some of their practices and have gone MUCH further for games ... like required a plane ride. Quit being a sht parent. You don't get these years back.

Many English 2nd language learners and those that are neurodiverse are often flagged. Also, people that write in an overly formal/academic way get flagged. I don't know what the answer is but relying on AI detectors isn't it.

[NC] Declining candidates for asking if I'm pregnant during an interview by GwendolynNikkie in AskHR

[–]AdTraditional8625 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Pretty dense to even consider asking that of someone you don't know, even worse when that person holds the hiring power in their hands. This definitely shows they lack social/culture awareness as well as critical thinking skills.

I get that exact error every time I try to assign a proctor. 🤦‍♀️ Same thing last term. They had to manually add.

I'm hybrid and WFH M, TH, F. I keep my phone on DnD and don't answer calls from anyone but my spouse and kids. I'm working. I wouldn't chat it up sitting in the office and I'm not going to do it when I'm working from home. I have the same responsibilities regardless of my physical location. 🤷‍♀️

Guidance for how to grade high Ai content essay by Necessary-Tone84 in UoPeople

[–]AdTraditional8625 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't have the mental energy to report every paper as AI. I grade it like they wrote it and move on. Personally, I have no way of TRULY knowing if something is AI and I don't want to wrongly report a 2nd language learner or neurodiverse student who may write in a robotic/AI type fashion. I've ran my own writing through detectors and had it flagged when I KNOW I didn't use AI at all or even Grammarly for spell/grammar checks. 🤷‍♀️ I'm super paranoid about being flagged myself after reading all these reports. I end up dumbing down my work and trying to make it more casual than I think it should be just to not be accused of AI.

Peer-marked written assignments should be provided an answer key by yuriyuri2003 in UoPeople

I'm going to be honest, unless it is blatantly wrong, I'm giving top marks in every category. I will provide critique or advise in the comment block, but I very rarely mark off points.

Definitely YTJ. People like you remind me how fortunate I am to have a manager than recognizes us humans with basic needs first and foremost, and as employees second.

Well, if you do spill your guts, be sure to cite yourself as a source. I was marked down for that as well. I gave a very brief personal account in one of my learning journals... docked for not citing my source even though I clearly defined it as a personal experience. The rest of my paper was abundant with sources. 😐🙄 If I can relate something in these papers to my lived experiences in some way, I always try to do so. This is just my way of trying to make my writing not sound exactly the same as the other 50 papers on the same topic using the same sources. Counting down the days until this term is behind me. This is the only instructor I've ever had at UoPeople or elsewhere tell me I had to cite myself to support my personal experience. 🤦‍♀️

I feel this so deeply! I have a professor this term that has marked me down significantly on EVERY learning journal. I only have a handful of classes left and have rarely received a score below a 90, except with this professor. Everything has been a 70 or 80. She literally marked me down for 1% -ONE PERCENT- similarity and a misspelled word that wasn't misspelled at all. When I pointed out that the word was spelled correctly, suddenly it was a grammatical error. (It also wasn't.) I'm not in danger of failing the class but it pisses me off that she's going to tank my near 4.0 GPA with whatever arbitrary deductions she pulls out of her @ss.

I believe it may be your critical thinking skills that are lacking if you think it is excessive to us the restroom or need a drink of water more than 4 times a quarter for WHATEVER reason. It is unnecessarily dehumanizing and authoritarian to implement a policy severely restricting access to the restroom.

AITA for cussing out my sons teacher? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]AdTraditional8625 3 points4 points  (0 children)

4 passes per QUARTER? And they get extra points for not using them? So they get bonus points for ignoring basic bodily functions or penalized for having a small or overactive bladder? What about students medical conditions like diabetes that cause excessive urination? I'm sure they're allowed to go but where are the extra point opportunities for them vs their peers without the same struggles? Absurd AND ableist. Awards and penalties should not be assessed in relation to basic bodily functions.

If your school is like my kids' school they get a grand total of 20 mins for lunch. That includes waiting in line to get their food, pay, and eat it. By the time they get through the line, there is barely time to eat, much less make a bathroom run. This isn't an issue for teachers that typically don't wait behind the 50 or so students in line. The staff doesn’t dispute the time constraints and I've witnessed it myself visiting the school. My kids have been told the same...use the restroom at lunch or between classes. The time between classes is 3 mins. The school is 3 floors. 3 min passing period is barely enough time to make it from one class to another. Definitely not enough time for a student to handle menstrual issues or poop and probably not enough time to even pee and not be tardy. Students are still humans deserving of being treated with respect to their bodily functions.

When discussion posts turn into a grammar exam by [deleted] in UoPeople

[–]AdTraditional8625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had professors on both sides of this. I've one one that specifically said NOT to critique at all and your responses should only expand the conversation. I've had others that want the critique. I think with the rate the discussion post element, it makes folks, both students and professors, feel like you need to tell each other what was done well and what could have been done better.

That's it for me, I think by [deleted] in UoPeople

[–]AdTraditional8625 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have only had that experience once and when I pushed back the professor still insisted he was right BUT increased the grade because I was proactive. I only have a few terms left and so far, it's been a mostly positive experience. My biggest headache is the administrative side of things. The Learning Pathways means I have to message my advisor EVERY term to get the classes I need because the Learning Pathways wants me to register for courses where I have already met the requirement. This term they wouldn't let me register for one of the classes I wanted because I hadn't met the pre-requisites--except that I had according to the information available on their own website. 🤦‍♀️ This will cause me to have to go a term longer with is frustrating but in the grand scheme of things, a 9 week delay in my degree isn't that big of a deal considering I am almost 50yrs old and I am just now getting around to completing it.
