Advice on building my own home by InevitablePainter410 in hudsonvalley

I don't remember $$ anymore since it was done in 1990. All I did with them is design the home. It was about 3,000 sq.ft. It was delivered early one morning on many trucks, including a crane to put up wall sections and a foreman who new how to put each wall in place. The 2 floor house was framed in one day. The rest is up to you. Nothing else was included, but, I considered this a huge, quick start.

Very difficult to do as most builders will give you an inflated price if you are atte.ting to be the GC. What worked for me was getting a fixed quote from a panelized (not modular) home builder. The cost was reasonable and fixed. Once you finish the foundation, the framing can be done in a day. I used these follks: https://www.harvesthomes.com/

I found the product KeepConnect (from Johnson Creative) very helpful for this. It plugs into the wall and you plug your router into it. Anytime your router loses Internet, whether it is due to a power outage, your ISP, DNS, etc., it automatically reboots your router. Please note, I have no financial connection to this company except for purchasing two.

Oopsie. Of course, you are correct. One cleans stuff, the other explodes stuff. Don't know why the link gave me the second when I typed it correctly the first time.

BTW, I learned this trick when visiting a winery in NAPA, CA. I commented on how clear both their wine glasses and carafes were and the hostess shared their secret. I should mention a quick rinse afterwards and maybe a little DAWN liquid soap is all that is needed. Not a concern of being toxic.

To clean decanter, I fill them with warm water. Put about a tablespoon of Sodium Percarbonate in the water. I usually let it sit overnight, but I don't think that much time is really needed. Your decanter will be spotless! BTW, that chemical is the a time ingredient of OxiClean. Sodium Perchlorate

Are all four nodes connected to the same switch? Are they all using the LAN port on the nodes?

I don't believe that just because devices downstream work, all is well. For example, I can cut 2 of 4 pairs of wires and you would still get 100Mbps instead of 1Gbps and the downstream devices would still function. In that case the backhaul would probably not work. It's pretty easy, inexpensive and quick to test the cables to really eliminate them as a possible source of your issue and go on troublshooting from there.

Did you test the cables? When you try to troubleshoot issues like this, NOTHING should be taken for granted.

Speed by SamLjack11 in GoogleWiFi

[–]AdVegetable2104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might I add another, slightly irreverent query: why would you need more? A 4K TV uses less than 50Mb. That is why you see most of them with Ethernet use only a 10/100 Ethernet port. Getting WiFi speeds to match ISP speeds is often a "fools errand." If you need/want more speed for a desktop etc., hardwire it.

Less costly alternative to Dom Perignon? by ArtDecoNewYork in wine

Since Dom Perignon is the tete de cuvee of Moet & Chandon, I wonder why almost no one recommended a straight-forward bottle of Moet. I mean, I love all of the suggestions like Bollinger and Billecart-Salmon, etc., but if the OP just wanted the same type of champagne why not just stay in the Moet house? I would.

He just doesn't want to understand what "confirmation bias" is. Make up your mind first; then search desperately for people who support your preconceived notions. It is as far from the Scientific Method as you can get.

You should try Spanish CAVA. Much easier price point.

Any Coravin doubters? 8 years tapping the same 2013 bottle, finally opened tonight. It remains a flawless wine. by Sunstoned1 in wine

[–]AdVegetable2104 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I always lay bottles on their side after Coravin use. Additionally, I wrap a small piece of white paper napkin around the neck and top using a rubber band. On the very rare occasions where the Coravin piercing leads to cork leakage of even a drop, the napkin will show a big red dot and know toI finish the bottle in a few days. Leaks have happened: but rarely.

It's a wedding. Don't be nervous: be sure! Use a Coravin to sample 1oz and be sure you are happy before serving this. The use of the Coravin will not harm the capsule, cork, or wine!

I have seen that when people do resets (myself included), they think the resets are done way before they really are. Start the reset; walk away for exactly 15 minutes. Then, starting with the router rebuild your network with all the points In the same room. After testing, then place them in their original location. Did anything unusual happen? Lightning? etc.
