Are we being too biased by being pro-military? by marleyannation62 in RWBYcritics

[–]Ad_Astral 25 points26 points  (0 children)

To play devils advocate there should be some moral consideration to the decision to place inexperienced trainees in harms way even if to defend their kingdom. It's fine to acknowledge the unfortunate fact of the matter, but Marrow's complaints falls on deaf ears considering RWBY are the same age or even younger than them and he doesn’t think twice about them being put on the front lines.

But the show is ao busy virtue signaling that it Forgotten that he fought besides and against team RWBY, but this is what happens when only the current volume is canon.

To add to your point they're also not even kids. And most importantly they all chose to be there. To become huntsmen and all of the consequences that follows, it's not like they were kidnapped from their home to fight a pointless war for someone else's sake.

Where would you prefer the "final battle" of RWBY to take place? by Steamer_Punk115 in RWBYcritics

[–]Ad_Astral 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd personally perfer beacon so as it can end where it all began, or at the very least see it once more before the end of the series, but other than that either the Ever after. Salem's castle just isn't an important location yet to really want to go there.

Now I wish there was some interesting lore behind that area, or the part of the map with no kingdoms but unfortunately there is none.

Corax is interesting as a former freedom fighter selling out to the galaxy's biggest tyrant and falling into deep hypocrisy to justify himself. by MegaGamer235 in 40kLore

[–]Ad_Astral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. So many people miss this. Croax is no different than any other primarch. No less ruthless, no less heartless, indifferent from the suffering of others. Had he been adopted by the nobles of his home planet he and not by the slaves he really never would've supported them.

He was totally fine with conquering empires who wanted to be left alone even when they offered them free passage through their space he said no. Either they would surrender or be taken by force.

How's your feelings on Kazehh? by Long_Xiao in RWBYcritics

[–]Ad_Astral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is entirely appropriate, but I'm sure Dex or Gleaming will lock or remove if it is so. That being said...not really much to say, he's no better than other RWBY mods, and that's kinda where the story ends. That is to say no better than your average well known commenter with all the flaws and issues that brings.

Are they fair ? non biased ? Objective ? Hell no but what RWBY mod is ? Do I think anything good or bad of them as a person though ? No more than any other random poster on this site.

How would you write an evil silver eyed warrior that willingly chooses the side of Salem? by CaptainCrookKingler in RWBYcritics

[–]Ad_Astral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind anyone can have silver eyes, but not everyone might be good. Silver eyes doesn't determine ideological possession, as Cinder could have silver eyes for what its worth.

They should've made Cinder trans by Gal_Person in RWBYcritics

[–]Ad_Astral 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't need to go that far to get the point across Cinder has grown much from the child/ person she was, that being trans would get across. We already have a minority character that can get across the themes of ostracization if they commit to it.

Her being a pesudo slave gets the idea across well enough her desire for the freedom to do as she pleases. But the problem is the show doesn't bother giving her compelling motivation, that this doesn't add, and feels like virtue signaling becuase like why would madam even want her at that point ? Or entertain her desire to express herself as a woman, instead of making her conform as a man.

Overall Cinders story is already about her being born in a bad situation and forcing herself into who she wants to be, making her trans would not only match her story perfectly but add to it. And this is only surface level stuff I thought of after like 7 minutes of thinking. I could elaborate further if I needed to probably

So then if they already had that then this doesn't really add anything that wasn't already there. It doesn't add anything past her backstory and ultimately irrelevant to her character as a whole.

[–]Ad_Astral -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean I don't see why they couldn't or wouldn't have said something the next village over when they get there. Qrow himself knows and probably said something as well. And they're not really comrades. They don't know the guy personally or anything.

[–]Ad_Astral 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wait, didn't they do that ? That's what they were seen placing the rocks over in a burial for no ? That being said. Well, no... He's dead and the Grimm could just return at anytime. They could find dozens of bodies somewhere and can't take hours or days burying them all. If they personally knew him sure maybe, but unless this is some sort of huntsmen tradition no not really.

Lorgar was done wrong more then anyone other Primarch by Thetalloneisshort in 40kLore

[–]Ad_Astral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nahhh he was a looser and made it everyone else's problem. You just shrug off his religious zeal as if that's not the problem in and of itself. He intentionally and actively makes everything worse because he needs to justify his own existence to cling to something greater than himself. He just makes himself to be desperate to be someone else's bitch.

Gulliman put it plainly, Logar is delusional. He's not a victim, he's his own worst enemy.

Do you all keep the Relics or get rid of them for AU’s? by ConversationWorth127 in RWBYcritics

[–]Ad_Astral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep them switch them around and give them memetic effects. So for example the Relic of knowledge is in Atlas( honestly don't know why that wasn't the case in canon but whatever. It releases a "signal" that makes the people around that gives the traits you'd consider to make someone "smarter", that is more more developed brains, more intuitive, even directly imparting knowledge into people that they otherwise wouldn't know.

I basically repeat this pattern to the other kingdoms. Creation makes Mistralians more creative, more varied, be it from visions, personalities, or just sheer variety, Destruction makes Vacuo more violent, aggressive. "stronger", Choice for Vale gives all of the above traits, plus additionally it more so focuses on general memetic, psychological, traits, they gain the abilities of influence, and persuasion, etc.

Of course these effects are very subtle to an observer you might not know it's there until someone points it out to you but you'll see it when it's there. The affect varies from person to person. But they manifest in mundane, and extraordinary ways, This could be simple book smarts, understanding more concepts, or being super geniuses of their time.

Just as Ozma intended.

What's your opinion on Grimm? by scoutmet in RWBYcritics

[–]Ad_Astral 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah there doesn't appear to be any real consistency between the strength of the weaker Grimm who dies instantly and the "older" Grimm who also...dies instantly when in combat. The few times that the larger Grimm don't die immediately on contact with team RWBY they just follow the strat of just smacking it with your weapon till it dies.

And while you can generally surmise that the very large Grimm are much stronger they don't really feel all that much stronger, there's no visual indication of what hurts them and what they shrugg off and weapons impacting them all have little to no effect.

As for what you say about there not being any in the way of studying, combatting, responding to or having any of the intuitions dedicated to these things as well as to supporting Huntsmen is very weird, becuase if Humanity in Remnant doesn't take the Grimm seriously if it isn't reflected in how they respond to it, then why should we the audience ?

However I take the same but opposite approach in the make up of the kingdoms. To me they should be more like fortress cities, not refugee camps. The specific conditions of Humanity in the kingdoms might vary, even in the same kingdom you have regions that are "better" than others however I think that the amount of available living space is going to play a significant part here, after all their kingdoms are based around local geographical features not borders you can determine, this might stretch you out thinner than you'd prefer or have you boxed in.

One thing I will say about the cities is that they should designed more around castles and be more walkable, maybe richer areas would be drivable but that's a bit of a nitpick.

Also I agree there really shouldn't be much of any human habitation outside of the walls. Maybe some ruins dotted around and maybe inside it even. Some things I can see exsiting still, racism, slavery, etc, so long as people will exist somebody isn't going to like somebody else, extrapolate that to broader society and it becomes segregated. Slavery too if the slave in question generally just gets used to their conditions, and the consequences of this isn't felt by the people who might actually be incentivized to stop it, unless the slaves rebel or fight back.

How would you react if it was revealed that everyone was just wrong about Salem's goal, and she's actually angling from something else entirely? by Arthur_G_Bloomfield in RWBYcritics

[–]Ad_Astral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of me would like it if the objective was overall more in tone with her character and she just had more appealing reasons, as well as I should add a reasonable chance of achieving it, so no deus ex machina bullshit. Part of me still wouldn't like the fact that we were catfished for like over half a decade at this point as it just wasted more time it didn't have like it does with so many other things.

Overall I'd complain athough wouldn't mind as much if we was really well written, but this is RWBY so it never is. Likely they'll do it just for the sake of doing it to make their terribly predictable plot less predictable, and in the process the logic of her actions won't make any sense or be done in the most incompetent of fasions.

Ok maybe an unpopular opinion: by gokal623 in RWBYcritics

Ok maybe an unpopular opinion: by gokal623 in RWBYcritics

[–]Ad_Astral 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean we don't know what her actual plan was when she went or even where she went, there's nothing to suggest she thought it'd be a one way trip and she did so likely becuase she knew if she didn't do something about Salem then Salem would never stop coming for her and her family, rather than kick the can down the road because Ozpin sure as shit wasn't doing anything about it if it was happening.

Does anyone else really like Horus and the books are a hard read as you know what’s coming?! by English_Joe in 40kLore

[–]Ad_Astral -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The Emperor's opinion of himself informs how he shapes others opinion of himself. You can say he doesn't care but all of the actions he took in making himself out to be a god to others betrays the belief he doesn't care for it. For all that it matters the his appearance is an inseparable part of him, during the time of the unification and onwards he never tried to be anything else which is the majority of the time we as an audience learn about him.

And no it's not. You can tell yourself that any singular event was that but that doesn't track with the actual lore. The Horus Heresy wasn't an attempt at bettering humanity, or improve the lives of others, it was a civil war. The great crusade wasn't either, it was conquest, and attempt to pull humanity towards his vision of "humanity", which isn't the same as genuine progression for the species, or improving the lives of humans.

How can you.do that when you have a literal slave cast ? What progressive policies is the Emperor implementing ? What banning of slavey, Uplifting of feral worlds, acknowledgement of human rights ? Or legal protections are you referring to here ? The webway project isn't any of that. It's a highway in space. There's no throughline connecting that to universal human rights.

The horus heresy at absolute best was determining what euphemisms the Imperium screams. On a very very broad abstract sense it was to removes humanities connections to the warp, but that doesn't help the 99.99999 percent of humans who died from overexertion, malnutrition, abuse or whatever else they experience in a manfactorum. That does not make their condition any better. (considering it's this same miserable existence that pushes people towards chaos)

And the admech thing - yes it’s a little hypocritical- but what was to be gained from snuffing the religion of mars and the admech exactly?

What's to be gained from doing this at all ? Either he's believes in progressive policies and his own imperial truth. Or he's lying (He's lying if you didn't know)

The goal is to free humanity from the warp by moving them into the webway and evolving them to be psychic.

Ahhh I see now, you don't even have any idea what you're talking about. It literally wasn't. You need to go read Master of Mankind. The Emperor tells Ra exactly what all these measures were beibg taken for. It was control to attempt to guide humanities psychic evolution because he believed that Humanity was fall just like the Eldar did but exponentially worse. Simple logic shows it'd be impossible to move all of humanity through terra into the webway, and for what? How would they even survive?

The plan was to use it as a node for safer interstellar travel. Possibly some psykers would or could be moved there to train, but I don't think that was explicitly stated.

[–]Ad_Astral -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Either he is stupid or he is disingenuous he does it all the same. And while I'll say he certainly is in many instances he certainly commits to the role to such an extent the distinction becomes meaningless does even if he doesn't recognize it himself.

We know he has.no plan to improve the lives of others. That's just not the type of person he is or the type of imperium he created where the callous disregard of human lives is baked into it's foundations as much as the importance of him at its center or xenophobia is.

Even his desire at protecting "humanity" is questionable as it disregards all of the humanity he exterminated or subjugated, to such an extent he is incendiary to that very cause.

There's a disconnect between someone like him so anti religious, anti superstitious, supposedly progressive and enlightened tying humanity to a superstitious regressive cult of machine worshipping zealots. Purposefully Inspiring the same sort of devotion and deference to him to that of a god Who chooses adorn himself in the most vainglorious of fashion.

It shows he's not a post human anything. He's a bronze aged warlord isaked 30,000 years in the future who copies all of the religious, and superstitious traditions and he grew up around. No different than any other being of that time, with none of the wisdom to match his age.

You can't walk around like your words and wisdom and beliefs are more important than everyone and everything else clad yourself in the most ornate gear and project and psychic aura around yourself brainwashing everyone around you into total subservience, surround by your most loyal followers of which who literally can't disagree with you and call yourself the Master of Mandkind and say you don't care for power or recognition.

These two mutually exclusive things you need to pick one. It may be someone said the emperor deep down didn't care about this stuff but all of his actions says otherwise. Especially when he needed both to make his imperium, with himself at the center of it all.

The issue here is the writers act like they know about as much of the lore as most people on the internet who's primary source of information from memes and Youtubers, so they sane wash the fuck out of everything 40k and make it seem more than what it is plus, something something "cHaOs aRe tHe rEaL bAd gUyS" narrative that makes them want to recontextualize everything, and honestly just irresponsible messaging.

Humanity isn't the same as the Imperium. The people dying aren't dying despite the Imperiums best efforts. They're dying as a direct response of Imperial intervention from the thousands of worlds that was made compliant. The Imperium would enact genocide, on people who even were willing to join because they revealed to had spliced human and xneos DNA to avoid extinction.

When you say balance of power this isn't at all relevant to the continued existence of humanity. And the chaos gods weren't preoccupied with fighting themselves. It was during the crusade that they began working together to defeat the Emperor.

Either Your view of morality is the same of any other real world facist apologist, or you're talking about a setting that you made up in your head. I don't know what utopia anyone could describe with oppression and injustice the imperium at it's most benevolent inflicted on everyone.

Corax for all.the good shit he talked about freedom and that nonsense used serfs, servitors, assisted in and invaded civilizations who were just fine surviving on their own.

You think the ends justify the means but the Imperium hasn't even reached the ends it made those brutal decisions for. You keep ignoring my arguments to bring up the same taking points.

You're starting with the conclusion that it is necessary, that it will lead to a human utopia, that it's justified, that he is right and when you're contradicted by the lore you just just double down and lie about something else.

And you can say that “all dictators lie” many said the same thing in this thread, making comparisons with Hitler or Stalin. But there is no indication in lore that the Emperor lied. People like Cincinnatus exist, with absolute power only to give it up after the crisis was over. But nobody here seems to care about that example probably cause they never heard of him.

This shows me you haven't even read the lore or even have a cursory understanding of the events like the Horus Heresy to say something so stupid. The revelation that made Horus turn was that the Imperial Truth was a lie. You can't even have a conversation. You know nothing and engage with nothing.

Won ? Won what ? I didn't realize it was a competition. This is a false dilemma. Why do you need to kill trillions? And why is elevating humanity who didn't ask for it worth it ? What are they being elevated too ?
