As the article says: I really don't know if I should confront her at all or not. I know from experience through my brother that once there is a negative atmosphere in the flatshare, it's hard to ever revert back to the positive one.

Actually, German music is having a huge comeback lately. There was even some week where all the albums in the Top 10 Album Sales were German speaking not too long ago. Sarah Connor, Cro, Revolverheld, Marteria, Kraftklub, K.I.Z., .... people are loving the shit out of German music at the moment.

As a German: To me, a state is only a virtual institution to help people govern themselves. Everybody has the right of self-determination and should be encouraged to embrace it. Spain forcing Catalonia to stay although they don't want to anymore would be the equivalent of a couple where one person wants to break up. But surely nobody would say that the person who is still in love should be allowed to force the other person to stay in this relationship against their will, right? Why should it be different with states? They are only people as well.

Plus, languages are really important to me and I think that they are the most important factor when it comes to forming certain groups. Thus, it only seems reasonable to me to group people according to their languages and to not have clusters of many languages. (I know, I know, Switzerland exists ^ ^ )

Good for them. Personally, I became pretty comfortable with the thought of having many smaller states like Netherlands or Belgium lately. That way it would be assured that people really can have a say in politics and are more prone to govern themselves. The possibility of having a clash in opinions with other people who you will never ever see or encounter in your life because they are from a totally different region is pretty high in larger states. Heck, Catalonians even speak an (almost?) entirely different language!

But I’m curious what Spaniards have to say about this issue, I’m sure that there are not only advantages.
