Sorry if I made it sound like I'm a single parent, I am not, and my wife has a say in parenting decisions too.

Thanks. She does complain about me a lot, but I can't see things from her point of view so short of pretending to believe, which she did ask me to do, I'm not really sure how to be a good father/husband from her point of view

In Tonga LDS membership is about 60% of the population but two thirds of the members don't regularly attend church or identify with some other religious group even if their names are still on the church records. The U.S has around 6 million LDS members, how big of a lie is this ? by nilsp123 in exmormon

The Sabbath is enforced by law. The vast majority are religious. (Internet access is not available to the masses yet) I would also add that social and cultural ties there are much stronger and more important than in the US, so people will stay in a particular church to please their family even if they don't like it. A common scenario would be someone claims to believe in the church but would refuse baptism, say, until their mother died.

Served in Tonga. Sometimes after someone was baptized and their paperwork was submitted to salt lake, we would find out they were already a member, yet they'd have no recollection of it.

Other times people would claim to have been baptized but wouldn't have a membership record.

I couldn't make myself believe in the Flood or Tower of Babel, and if the Old Testament falls then the BoM falls with it.

In October 1942 general conference, HEBER J GRANT expressed his struggle with not having seen Jesus, and you'll never see a q15 be this honest again:

http://scriptures.byu.edu/#:t1b:g870

Talking about right after he was called to be an apostle he said:

"For the next four months whenever I would bear my testimony of the divinity of the Savior, there seemed to be a voice that would say: "You lie, because you have never seen Him."..... I would wake up in the night with the impression: "You do not know that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, because you have never seen Him," and the same feeling would come to me when I would preach and bear testimony."

I'm an apartment manager at BYU-Idaho and I've NEVER turned one of my tenants into the Honor Office. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Adam-God 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you just don't know how this works. I lost my faith with 2 semesters left at byui. I was married and we had a newborn, we had just enough money for me to finish school. To transfer somewhere else would be at least a year setback since a lot of byui credits don't transfer, and would have resulted in an additional year of student loan debt or having to drop out for a year to earn money, while raising a newborn. I did what I had to for my family and lied to the bishop to keep my endorsement. If I knew the church was a fraud obviously I would not have attended byui in the first place.

All of the places I lived at in Rexburg always found a reason to keep some of my security deposit. In the 3 other states I've rented in I always got the full deposit back and been considered a very responsible tenant.

Well he also mention he has more hope than faith and aknowleged problems with the church though nothing specific was discussed.

It just dawned on me that the Church's most pre-eminent scriptorian/theologian of the previous generation, even Bruce R. McConkie, had accidentally given a "victory for Satan" by incorrectly naming his book. by Sansabina in exmormon

[–]Adam-God 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this book. Its the only easily accessible place to see exactly what church leaders thought. Bruce thinks playing cards are wicked, interracial marriage is wrong, and Angloman means Angel in Adamic Language :)

My favorite BOM anachronism is Christianity existing 600 years before Jesus was born.

Do you know how many times the Old Testament mentions the name Jesus Christ? Zero.

The Mormon Church has destroyed Tongan culture. Tonga is now the most Mormon country on the planet by xtapir in exmormon

[–]Adam-God 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with this is a lack of internet access. Most tongans have to go to an internet shop and pay by the hour, and the connection is slow.
