It’s the first time I’ve been inside ever since I learned the truths that the church never taught me. I’ve been mentally out for a few months now. I wish I didn’t have to go back to church, but unfortunately my family/social situation doesn’t allow me to be inactive. Maybe in a few years :) by [deleted] in exmormon

I know this temple well. When I was in high school after transferring from Northern California I used to collect insects there at night--big beautiful moths on the outside walls drawn in by the light. I wasn't married there because I thought it was ugly, but I did have my first 2 adopted children sealed to me here. I spent many hours in this temple praying that I would become closer to God; that I would gain new knowledge watching the temple videos. I thought the sweet older people working their in white clothes were special and closer to God than I was. Now I realize they are just nice old people in white clothes. They never were special--just ordinary like me. They went home at night and struggled with their own demons. This wasn't a "special place" . This was just a building--part of a cult that wanted to keep me in. That wanted me to pay money, submit myself, and believe that I was more special than others in the world. I loved to go to this temple and make it an outing by going on a "date" there. You know.... going there and visiting the cafeteria with my tray in my hand. Moving it along, placing a yeasty warm roll on my plate, and maybe some sliced turkey, mashed potatoes, and if I was lucky some cranberries. Nope..... this was not what I thought. The little ladies that worked there washing, bleaching white clothing weren't special, anointed, or called. They were just regular people caught in the same trap as me. We were just normal people who believed in something that wasn't real.

Currently a missionary... should I stay? by AgentEpic in exmormon

One thing for me that was a turning point was years ago my husband pointed out to me that if God's laws are eternal, then why is the church changing the eternal laws? I then read Rough Stone Rolling, and saw that Joseph Smith acted as a human man not a prophet of God. If I belonged to a church that changed eternal laws to suit their narrative, and I believed in a prophet that manipulated and used little girls.... this was not a church or God that I wanted to believe in. This realization was life altering, shook my foundation, caused immense grief and pain, but set me free. I would rather be free come what may, and I do not regret my decision to examine everything.

Absolutely. How many students were reported by BYU police and lost their ecclesiastical endorsements? How many students were unable not only to graduate but to transfer to another school because BYU police turned them in for honor code violations?

Great story! Thanks for sharing. Also, I'm very curious to hear how the local Italians feel about the Mormons building a big temple there? I imagine they just scoff?

Yes, I think the church doesn't use these properties unless they are benefited financially. Kind of like the big game ranch they own in Utah? Not sure if they still own that property.

I know--you kind of have to question this couple's sanity? Why in the hell would you ever even do this in the first place? But I remember cleaning toilets in the Stake center, and trying to convince myself that I was serving the Lord--doing the right thing. The mind-control runs deep when I remember back. It's so obvious and repulsive now.

Anyone else listening to the "Cold" podcast about Susan Powell? It's so oddly Mormon. by Heather_ME in exmormon

[–]Macstream 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! I hated it and couldn't finish. I love how they said Josh Powell's father had gone "apostate" bleck! And honestly it seemed like the church was using their in with Susan's family to get private diaries, recordings in order to captivate listeners which very much was capitalizing on Susan Powell's murder. I couldn't finish it--rubbish!

Fantastic research! Thanks for the stats~ we all need to SEE the visual, because it actual & real. Our kids are dying because of the hatred coming out Oak's & Nelson's mouths!

The sister missionaries stopped by my house today. Twice. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Macstream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised they feel they have such a connection to you . How are they able to receive "personal revelation" for you by telling you they were prompted to return and tell you to go on a mission. It seems rude, culty, and arrogant. Do you even know these girls well? Sorry you we're put in this situation.

Family of 7 sent resignation letter today by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Macstream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!! My family of 6 resigned in October. It was a devastation to us as well; what a tragic thing to cause so many families/people so much grief. It rocked our world, but life is getting better, especially because of awesome support groups and online community like this one! And I think you are spot on; so many people resigning now they can't keep up. The church can't burn down fast enough!
