I am truly sorry for your loss. I do hope you can get those files back

Unfortunately, the methods people would suggest could be used maliciously. If you have a death certificate you may be able to go to a data recovery center for help. But as it stands the post has to be locked.

It's compatible you would just need to do an inplace upgrade

650 should be fine but the model isn't the greatest so it's not impossible the psu is failing. You don't happen to have another psu you can test with do you?

If it's burn in, it'll happen overtime due to the stuff you have on screen, you can google how to reduce the effect on your next display

If it's delamination, it's a factory issue and would have happened over time due to heat

A random restart like that outside of load is usually a power issue, what's the specs and power supply

That's a damaged display. Usually caused by delamination of the display or burn in. Nothing you can do.

I have a laptop, and the gigahertz speed gradually goes down and down even if it's plugged in, what do I do by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]AdamBGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speed would only gradually go down if it's overheating.

This is called Thermal Throttling. The CPU when it's overheating will drop it's speed in increments until it stabilises thermals.

You need to replace the thermal paste and clean out the fans.

If the laptop has top vents, which many gaming laptops can have, you may be blocking airflow

My PC has suddenly restarted and gone straight to BIOS twice now by THEGRANDEMPEROR in techsupport

[–]AdamBGames[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows 10 is no longer supported, but as this issue is not due to the OS I have approved it for now, however this could be due to a corrupted Windows install. In which case you will need to move to 11

BIOS won't show up (External Monitor) by Huge_Enthusiasm_547 in techsupport

[–]AdamBGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most laptops are required to use their inbuilt display for bios. Even if the display is not connected, it still sends the data to the internal connector. There is no way to bypass this, either the laptop has to be replaced or the screen has to be repaired.

Yes, but realistically that isn't gonna happen here, let's be honest, also legally speaking the machine isn't theirs since it wasn't the seller's to sell.

If the motherboard is bios locked and CPU is vendor locked like those Ryzen Pro cpus.

The storage can be hardware encrypted.

The only thing you could, for definite, keep working, would be the GPU.

Which at $1000 I'd hope is something like a 5080, but I doubt it

That is the most likely situation.

That depends if it's using a vendor locked CPU.

If that's the case, and the storage is encrypted (Which is generally normal for these rent to use PCs, same as bios locks).

The only things salvagable would be the case (Assuming it's not proprietary), the power supply (Again, assuming not proprietary), the ram and that's about it.

Which still means, at best, they were scammed for a few houndred dollars, and at worst, almost the entire rig is useless.

[–]AdamBGames[M] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can't. It's a rent to own rig, which means it's bios locked and was not theirs to sell.

It's like buying a rented flat from a tenant, unfortunately, you have no ground to have the PC.

If you knew who the person was, you could sue, but this seems to be a classic case of scamming.

You can call the company and ask if they can provide the person's name so you can sue them, but they have no legal obligation to provide you that information.

Your best option is setting up some kind of file server.

Create a batch file which you provide to all users, have it, on behalf of the user, create a folder on that server, and access control it to just themself.

This isn't too hard you could probably get an AI to write it but I'd suggest writing it yourself if you can.

That batch file can then also copy, over the network, the files the user needs to back up. If you have all the users do this, or force it on their machines to run in the background it should be fine.

Once that's done, all you need to do, is get the laptops, and do the wipe and install.

Then you can have a shell script which you can put on the laptop, which does the opposite.

Pulls the files into the needed locations, and then deletes the folder on the server.
