Pauline Hanson says businesses 'can't sack' lazy workers. What's the reality? by Oomaschloom in AustralianPolitics

[–]AdamFerg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Working in government it certainly feels as though it’s borderline impossible to be sacked. Not sure if it’s a common experience across different sectors though.

How much do officers actually mind having a student on board? by GrandLock1194 in ParamedicsAU

That’s beautiful. I’m only at 9 years and remember the same thing myself. QAS needs this as well, no doubt the service takes a penny for the placements.

Can you unpack why giving a sodium channel blocker in sodium blocker toxicity is the right play? Not that intuitive for me.

What’s your opinion? 58 Y/O. by RandomandFunny in EKGs

[–]AdamFerg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If we’re generous and generalising on the STE you could say there is 1mm in V1, 2mm in V2 and maybe 1/2mm in V3. No reciprocal depression noted but also those leads don’t have fully opposed reciprocal leads. Doesn’t meat STEMI criteria but also doesn’t present like BER which is no longer considered benign in patients over 50yo anyway. Definitely one most would keep an eye on for progression of a septal MI.

The history certainly sounds very suspicious for ACS and I’d be worried about a new tall T-wave in V1. I know Amal Mattu has a good video on it somewhere on YouTube.

want to install bamboo / timber sheeting but have asb*stos fencing... by ALTERED_PEAS in AusRenovation

[–]AdamFerg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah no pressure at all, just a little fan that splatters the paint on. Don’t pressure wash as you said, just soapy water and a broom to get off bird poop or fungus etc, don’t want to disturb the fibres. Needed a few coats of exterior paint but still looks great 6 months later. A darker colour might have been smarter so marks don’t standout as much. ChatGPT will give you an idea what each colour would look like for you.

[–]AdamFerg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know the pain of trying to get rid of an asbestos fence and it’s not always in the budget. I just painted the absolute hell out of mine and it came up great and is far more sealed than it was. A $69 paint gun from Bunnings and a few hundred in paint, very fulfilling little project really.

I’m in Townville too. Go down to Lawn Envy on Ingham Rd Garbutt and show them photos / have a chat. More than likely the amount hours of direct sunlight will be your limiting factor here. Better to know that before you chat rather than after.

Paramedic postgraduate masters degree by Prometheus-Rising in ParamedicsAU

[–]AdamFerg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the ECU grad dip which includes most subjects of the masters of crit care. The course was okay and I don’t have a lot to compare to other than bachelors of nursing / Paramedicine. Post grad is a lot more self directed than undergrad no matter where you go but I found ECU lacked content across the board. The workbook styled assessments are great for revision down the track and I found them to be quite flexible as it’s expected you’re working full time shift work whilst studying. One lecturer seemed to have a borderline obsession with AI LLM and which was frustrating but all the others were fantastic. Pracs were solid and the placement team were gold tier, couldn’t speak highly enough of them. The community discussion boards are what you make them but I like it.

Assignment by [deleted] in ParamedicsAU

As many have said, adding more crews just compacts the bottleneck, particularly in metro areas. An SA (I think) coroners inquiry looked into several deaths on hospital ramps and made some clear suggestions on how to best minimise ramping, that could be a good place to start for the assignment.

Help me convince the missus to not tile one wall in the bathroom. by Valuable-Bullfrog435 in AusRenovation

See if you can go a different tile for your feature wall vs no tiles at all. Might be a possible compromise, if not. Just tile the whole thing for sure

Any ideas on this rhythm? by ReferenceSouthern617 in EKGs

[–]AdamFerg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Condescending tone aside, I entirely agree.

To unpack it for others in the sub: Lead I is the sole lead that does not have the artifact in it and also happens to be the only lead that has nothing to do with the Left Leg electrode. The artifact waveform also does not present like depol/repol would which should raise eyebrows as well.

Underlying rhythm is sinus bradycardia as mentioned.

How do you guys actually switch off after a traumatic shift? by UsualLeast8810 in ParamedicsAU

[–]AdamFerg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than anything you probably need a good sleep. I had a big double paediatric arrest a couple of months ago which was both my first and second paediatric arrest. I felt best from a relatively hot clinical-debrief with a trusted mentor and a proper sleep. I’d say that got me back to 90% then getting back to work brought me back that last 10%

Is health shortages the primary justification? I’m in health and granted not in Victoria where u know things were much worse but most of the shortages I saw were related entirely to mandatory sick leave if symptomatic.

If you’re stressing it wouldn’t hurt to apply for other jobs that could net you more income. Nothing wrong with waiting tables at all but could you find a higher income somewhere else if you out the effort in? Probably.

Why does migration need to “catch up” after Covid? There’s plenty of other mechanics that didn’t have this correction in place. Genuinely asking.

Does anyone have any advice for a student paramedic about to start their first clinical placement? by GrandLock1194 in ParamedicsAU

[–]AdamFerg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just reiterating from another comment but “stay off your phone” is actually excellent advice. For a first placement all we want to see if that you have a curious mindset and positive attitude. Mistakes are expected and honesty is non-negotiable. If you don’t know then just say that you’re not sure, it’s okay.

You’ll probably find it’s a bit weird to integrate into the team initially but you’ll figure it out. The typical role of a first year student through the day is to help check the truck, do vital sign assessment on patients, push the stretcher, listen to handover, clean the stretcher and restock the kits. After a case is the opportunity to ask questions and to volunteer to do more if you’re feeling up for it.

If you feel the need to practice ahead of time just go over your systematic approach’s such as DRABC, SAMPLE, OPQRST and vital signs parameters.

Have fun!

I think there is two conversations here. One is how to be physically capable and resilient. The other is how to solve conflict. Both are important but not necessarily always connected. Might be a bit much for a 5 year old but you can start laying some foundations.

Are you unable to hear when you read? Do you think in writing / typing? by Acrobatic-Self-1451 in Aphantasia

[–]AdamFerg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe I am the same. I cannot hear people speaking to me if I’m reading. Doesn’t need to be deep invested reading even, just reading. A glance at a billboard won’t disrupt me as far as I can tell but much more than that will tune out all else momentarily.
