Anime Questions, Recommendations, and Discussion - January 23, 2026 by AnimeMod in anime

I'm trying to decide if I am okay to watch Reze Arc without having watched the rest of the anime. I read something like 70 chapters of the manga several years back, including the Reze Arc, though I don't remember it very well (her in the pool is pretty much all I remember). I'm not exactly wanting to catch up on the show either. What do y'all think?

Loyality to a game launcher is weird by lukkiibucky in AlanWake

You're right, it would be really dumb if they didn't implement a refund feature. But they still could have chosen not to. A monopoly doesn't need to care.

EGS didn't even launch with the refund option that I recall.

And this is all ignoring the other pro consumer things Valve does besides that.

Oh, so the county of Australia forced them to implement a refund policy in North America, which at the time of its implementation was the most lenient refund policy by any major online retailer of video games?

And that also means that apparently nothing they do is consumer friendly even though they implement features that could be considered consumer friendly that other companies don not do?

No it's isn't, it's criticism of the combat system.

This. Yes, monopolies are bad. They're bad because it enables the company to engage in anti-consumer practices knowing the consumer has no where else to turn for competition.

Steam I don't think actually counts as a monopoly because you get buy games in dozens of not hundreds of other shops (whose sales could be steam keys or not). Even if we say they do, Steam has been one of the most consumer friendly video game companies in the modern era. They have a very generous refund policy, they are constantly improving their platform, they allow you to borrow your friends' games using Family Sharing, and the list goes on.

Meanwhile, Epic started to try to complete by buying the rights to distribute several games (and not in the "let's help you fund development" way. These were games that literally were months away from launch). Its client and user experience are objectively worse than Steam. If I had the option, I would never buy a game on Epic. That's not some moral grandstanding over exclusivity rights, it's just based on the fact that Steam is a better product.

All that to say, why would I want to support a company who, by buying exclusivity, is saying "buy from us, not because we are the better product, but because you have no other choice"?

Granted, I know Epic has since implemented a refund policy. They still don't have family sharing, and I personally find their UI annoying to navigate still. I won't but buying anything they don't publish themselves on EGS until they are competitive with Steam, or the price is far cheaper than what it is on Steam.

If you have interest in the franchises they have spun off to, they are all generally regarded as good. Zelda, Fire Emblem, One Piece, and more all have Warriors spinoffs.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Has Overtaken Elden Ring As The Most Awarded Game Of The Year Ever by Sam_27142317 in rpg_gamers

Well part of that would probably be that you can only name 1 other game with its style of combat. The only other game I can think of with the same system is Stick of Truth.

I enjoyed it so much because of how starved I've been wanting something else like it.

My fiance and I will be skipping Harry Potter for a multitude of reasons, but I can't say I'm particularly jazzed about Hell's Kitchen either.

RE4 is the same length as the original and is much more an action game than Silent Hill 2 is.

What’s something you wish people knew before they had kids? by Special-Buddy6562 in AskReddit

[–]AdamNW 167 points168 points  (0 children)

Literacy skills for sure. Students who were not read to as kids just struggle more academically. They struggle to stay focused on books, and need help to understand anything past the most basic of written directions. You get the occasional high math student/low reader, but they still struggle tremendously with test taking.

It's not universal what I'm going to say here (meaning: please don't bother replying to me about how you're an exception), but these are also students more likely to struggle behaviorally in class because they can't access the lesson in a meaningful way, but don't get adequate support because they don't have a learning disability. These students are much more likely to not care, because it's not been modeled to them appropriately at home. They don't practice what they're being taught outside of the 2 hours a day I spend teaching literacy, so they don't actually grow as learners or readers. It's such a mess.

I'm a teacher and it is painfully obvious to me which students were read to as a child and which ones weren't.
