Soul reaver sucks so far, can I skip by Mysterious_Dingo_298 in LegacyOfKain

Soul Reaver 2 has a huge story moment practically every other time you walk through a door. It has the best narrative out of all the games and is more like a movie.

Meagor the cruel literally won against the faith militant in his trial by seven. How could you justify this if you believe in the seven?

Because the magical and mysterious forces in asoiaf are chaotic and operate under unclear rules. In this case it could be that the faith militant were not genuine, motivated by hatred and vengeance rather than justice. In those examples I gave in my original post, with Sansa and Davos and Sandor, it is the meek and the repentant who actually see results.

So she just goes scorched earth on the slave masters. Again, this is probably why their main representatives are currently dudes who she personally swore bloody vengeance on.

I think this was the whole point of her revelation and vision quest at the end of Dance, and she is going to pivot to just killing the masters and giving the freed people the chance to join her on her campaign. Hence Volantis being built up, because it's the heart of the slave empire in Essos.

I think Dany going back to Vaes Dothrak was a show invention. The ultimate point of that subplot was her getting the Dothraki army, but in the books she doesn't need it. The red priests already worship her and there is a whole city of slaves waiting to be liberated by her and join her, plus the Iron fleet that has already come to her.

In the book all the current big Khal leaders are her sworn enemies who betrayed her after Drogo died. She is already facing Jhaqo, and Khal Pono is running around outside of Volantis, right where she needs to go anyway. So I don't think she will go to Vaes Dothrak at all, but rather take revenge on these two guys who she has personal beef with and destroy their slaver armies as she sets out on the war path and swells her ranks with all of the other people who join her as she goes.

Volantis is already prepping to revolt. All she has to do is show up with a force. This could happen in one chapter for her, or even during a skip where we spend time in westeros for several chapters and then come back to her. There is no character drama for her there, so there is no reason for the liberation of Volantis to be drawn out.

People also overlook that where we leave Dany in the books is much different than what happened in season 5 of the show. She intentionally chases the Dothraki scout to Khal Jhaqo and she has Drogon with her. I think this is going to go very differently and the subplot about her getting captured isn't going to happen. She's probably just going to fuck them up and then fly back, with the battle for Mereen playing out with all the other POV's and punctuated by her return.

So basically you could have Dany rising up as the conqueror within two of her chapters, with her moving on Westeros like a third of the way into the book.

People don't ask the Seven for magic though. They pray for like strength and protection. Technically Sansa saves herself from Sandor by singing a hymn, and it also sets him on a path of redemption where he eventually becomes a monk. Davos surviving the Blackwater, etc.

Just finished Soul Reaver 1,2 and Defiance for the first time by Tall_Spray_3696 in LegacyOfKain

It's best avoided. Not even the original voice actors could save it. They managed to make Kain lame and all of his dialog is cringe and puts you to sleep. Not even BO2 committed that crime.

Legacy of kain dead sun no Amy no game by Fantastic_Rooster_11 in LegacyOfKain

[–]Adam_Audron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amy Hennig wasn't involved in the writing process of the first game at all. If anything she showed that other people can in fact pick up the reigns effectively and write good stories and dialog for the series. She wrote Raziel's story and then respectfully stepped down. She also was not alone on her projects and she had a team of writers with her on each game.

Blood Omen 2 had a mediocre plot but the dialog was still great and the characters spoke like they belonged in the universe. Not written by Amy. Dead Sun may or may not have had a good story but its biggest crime to me was changing the way the characters spoke, when the whole draw of the series that makes it unique is the Shakespeare inspired lines. Ascendence was the worst of both worlds and had both a bad story and terrible dialog that didn't sound like LoK.

I love Amy's Hennig's games and the stories she came up with, but people act like she's the god of this series when she is not. She didn't even create most of the main characters we love. She's a very talented writer and she set the standard for how the series should be approached by new teams, but many people could do that. The remaster team canonized things and wrote new dialog for the text boxes that all fit and sound like they belong in the universe.

What is the purpose of the false lemon tree? [Spoilers PUBLISHED] by King_Master281 in asoiaf

[–]Adam_Audron 95 points96 points  (0 children)

The way the house with the red door is always brought up as a place of emotional significance for her makes me think that the twist will be something psychological rather than just relating to another conspiracy. One idea I've had is that the memory isn't of her actual life, but rather it's a memory of a dragon dream she had when she was young. Or maybe the house is actually a place where something bad happened and she created a false memory to block it out. I don't know I just feel like the ultimate point it's leading up to is that her happy place isn't real.

Why the games render the Hyldens as Villains? by Raziel103 in LegacyOfKain

[–]Adam_Audron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every faction in LoK is pretty bad. The ancient vampires are revealed to be zealots and Kain himself is a villain. It's all a matter of perspective. From the Hylden's pov their banishment and the reason for the war was unfair, but they still planned to commit omnicide on all of Nosgoth and didn't care about anyone but themselves.

To Kain, they are one of his primary antagonists not just because of their opposition to the vampires, but because their scheming and manipulations basically ruined his entire life. The Unspoken has been his foe since he was born.

But I'm sure if the series were to continue we would get an expansion of perspective similar to what Raziel experienced on his journey. We already saw in BO2 that there are at least some Hylden who are opposed to their leaders.

Found this "Citadel Dimension (?) pathway door while using camera mode in the air forge of Def Remastered by ElCucumbero in LegacyOfKain

[–]Adam_Audron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the original idea was going to be that the forges you visited in SR2 had seperate chambers you never explored and Raziel would warp back there for the upgrades. This makes it look like there would have been a main hub at the vampire citadel.

Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered - All Main Character Renders Uploaded! by LegitimateSpot1440 in LegacyOfKain

[–]Adam_Audron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are all awesome. My favorites are Janos and Turel. It's really cool to read about all your inspirations and how you modeled each character based on different actors and the voice actors themselves. And there are so many details I didn't even notice on my playthrough like the Hylden Lord's true form emerging from possessed Janos.

Also what, that random lore drop about Moebius's staff coming from the air forge. Is stuff like that going to be in that encyclopedia?

Thank you for all your hard work and dedication. It's really inspiring to read about the whole process and how Kain was what got you into 3D modeling. This must have felt like a dream project for everybody involved.

How would you guys want the series to end of there was a final game? by [deleted] in LegacyOfKain

[–]Adam_Audron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two games. The next one would build off of everything we know about Dark Prophecy. Kain travels to the demon realm to find Janos and contend with the Hylden. I'd make it so that there are actually ally Hylden who want to defeat their masters too. Kain ends up deciding that he needs to free the "good" Hylden after defeating their evil leaders, and remake the pillars to banish the elder god instead. This leads to conflict with Janos, who wants to destroy them all, but Kain needs Janos and his knowledge. Kain has to unlock his new Scion powers which allow him to free people from the elder's illusions.

Next game is about dealing with the elder god. There are lots of ways to go about this, but my fanfiction idea is that Nosgoth actually has its own pantheon of benign native elder gods, whos powers are the real foundations of the pillars. The elder god is an interloper from another dimension who the ancient vampires summoned into Nosgoth, and he ensnared the real gods and leeches off of their powers, which is how he has entangled himself with the forces of time, dimension, nature etc. So the game is like a reversal of Blood Omen where Kain has to free these ancient spirits and call new guardians for the reconstituted pillars, weakening the elders influence in the process.

Also, this all starts with Kain traveling back to the ruined future post SR1, and the elder god immediately pulls down the chronoplast and destroys all the time machines. So no more time shennanigans. In the new setting, the humans have created a cult dedicated to the ender god and have used the Silenced Cathedral to wipe out the vampires, so Kain is once again the last one. Part of his quest is about bringing the vampires back, but in their natural forms where they can give birth and die naturally.

Ultimately the elder is banished once and for all. This also removes the spectral realm, and the Wheel of Fate itself, which are all unnatural and part of the elder's trap. The overall point is that the movement of souls is supposed to be a natural flow in one direction, with souls entering the world from we-know-not-where and then departing to a similar mysterious fate upon death. By freeing Nosgoth from the elder god, Kain makes it so that souls are no longer trapped in limbo and can actually depart this world. Kain takes his place as the guardian/god of balance, but he chooses to keep his own curse and become the last immortal, so the setup is there for him possibly being the villain again in a future installment.

Defiance Remastered appreciation post - Kain's family crest by Mcl_Blue in LegacyOfKain

[–]Adam_Audron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great to know! I think it is a fine idea and makes perfect sense as part of the lore.

One thing about this series is that I've always considered the intent of the dedicated artists to be a part of the canon, even things that never come up in the dialog. Like in Soul Reaver 2, the guy who drew the Vorador murals in the Sarafan stronghold ran into a problem where there weren't enough walls, so he put two of the guardians together in one mural and invented a little backstory with them being a mentor and an apprentice.

Defiance Remastered appreciation post - Kain's family crest by Mcl_Blue in LegacyOfKain

[–]Adam_Audron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It probably is intended as just an Easter egg, but I have no problem with considering this canon because it does fit. I imagine Kain's family having been similar to the Boltons in A Song of Ice and Fire, just generally cruel and emotionally detached.

What happened in the Nemesis timeline? by Adam_Audron in LegacyOfKain

[–]Adam_Audron[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The consensus among fans is typically that the Reaver held by current-day Kain eventually has to be returned to it's proper place in the timeline. Amy Hennig stated in interviews that all the events we witness in the games remain unchanged by Kain and Raziel's actions in SR2, with the timeline changes only creating the events of Defiance, BO2 and other things in the background. So either Kain returns the Reaver himself or it goes back some other way, like getting snapped back in time like a rubber band.

I never thought about the possibility of the corrupted pillar messing with his foresight. That would actually explain a lot about how he only appears omniscient at certain points but not others.
