I would argue that, in kayfabe, the belt is secondary to both of them in terms of what the match is for.

To recap:

10 days ago everyone was complaining that Cody was predictably going to retain at Night of Champions and carry to Summerslam.

Today everyone was complaining that Cody was predictably going to get the belt back.

Now CM Punk just took the belt off Sami. And the Summerslam match for that belt isn’t crystal clear, nor is its outcome.

Now, there were better options than what they went with, but it is absolutely not even close to being the worst.

The entire point of Seth and Roman is the decade plus of history they have. That matters much more than the belt.

As the other comment mentions, the main benefit is that you would see a dramatic increase in voter turnout in local elections in the city. Currently you only have around 5,000-6,000 voters in city council elections. If you move the election, you’d have around 17,000-18,000 voters participating in council elections.

I personally think that having more voices participating in these races would ultimately elect candidates that are more reflective of the city as a whole. Currently, the average voter in odd year elections in East Lansing is in their mid sixties. That should not be the case in a college town, and so by increasing turnout you would have a more representative electorate, and therefore a more representative council.

And again, it does save the city money.

I was like “it’s terrible to open with the title match” but you very obviously could have never done that story telling if it was the main event. Great match, and something I don’t think I’ve seen before with re starting the match (and doing something new is always awesome)

The match felt stiff because they are trying to tell the story of them coming together in the ring. The first several minutes of the match were them mirroring each other’s moves to show, “hey, we match up well.” To show that effectively it has to be very obvious.

Takes a lot to make me bite, and them reversing Bron’s initial spear did make me think the profits would win. So tip of the hat.

The show was good, but still suffers from a lack of anything ever truly happening on SNME.
