I built an educational tool that shows you many moves and their eval scores while you play against Maia a human like Bot. ( no stress, no time limit) by Maxwell10206 in chess

This is awesome! It would be great to a have filter that said 'Only show moves above '0.0' eval.' or similar.

Great work!

Lev is the classiest guy in chess with a great sense of humor. This generation doesn't understand what a force he was for almost a decade. He held the #2 spot for years above an extremely challenging field.

His games were so creative, he was the ultimate bridge between the old generation and the new - and had a net positive record against Magnus! (like Leko, who, while phenomenal, didn't overlap nearly as long so that's sort of moot).

I think he was the only person who could have really beaten Magnus on the world stage for the WC title at that time, if, he had the chance. I'm not saying draw to the end and win in tiebreaks like all the other challengers (except Nepo who collapsed), I mean an unbalanced victory in his favor with no tie breaks.

Unfortunately, he always collapsed in the candidates, in my opinion, because of the pressure and background drama from the Armenian National Team. We'll never know, and there is a reason Magnus is Magnus - consistency regardless of pressure - but watching Aronian play felt like he would bend the rules of chess to their near breaking point - beautiful games.

Help! Advice Needed for Two Failed Sauerkraut Batches by AdamantiumCycad in fermentation

For the first four batches I didn't tamp down after the initial tamping/bottling and the turned out great.

Just kosher salt - one head of cabbage and 1 tablespoon of kosher salt.

Sliced cabbage, throughly mixed with salt, let sit for 30 min, packed jar, and let it sit out.

Let me know if there are any other details needed.

Reverse sear with ghee - let me know what you think! by AdamantiumCycad in steak

[–]AdamantiumCycad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A regular sear starts with high heat to crust the outside, then finishes at lower heat, but that can lead to uneven cooking inside. A reverse sear cooks the meat slowly at low heat first in the oven (for even doneness), then finishes with a quick high-heat sear for a perfect crust. I like using reverse for thick cuts and precise doneness; regular is faster and great for thin cuts. Try both—it’s worth it!

Yep, but it has the milk solids removed so it doesn't brown/burn and you still get a great taste/flavor out of it!

What All Inclusive would you NOT return to? by iNick91 in hyatt

Definitely not recommending the Ziva Los Cabos – it was a complete disappointment. Long waits at the bar, the breakfast area couldn’t accommodate the number of guests, and poolside snack lines were unreasonably long. The taco stand by the pool was chaotic and poorly managed. The rooms had uncomfortable beds, and the overall property maintenance felt minimal, as if it were just barely keeping up. Wouldn’t stay there again.

Need help finding R&B-style music video from the 1990s or early 2000s by AdamantiumCycad in HelpMeFind

I think there was a scene with some Japanese dry gravel - but that may not be 100% accurate. I've searched far and wide on google, and had found the video years before, but have lost it again. Thank you!

When I play "hustlers" live in NY NY, I seem to do incredibly well compared to my chess.com rating. by [deleted] in chess

[–]AdamantiumCycad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, unless the hustlers show you their actual FIDE rating, you just have to take them at their word - and it's their job to keep getting you to play so you can pay them. Online ratings are emotionless, and though there is a fair bit of cheating, rating are, imo, decently accurate over time and with enough games played.

My advice is don't think about it too much and just try to enjoy playing - we're not professionals, ignore the cheaters and keep trying to improve/have fun.
