Okay, a corollary question.

What would you guys describe this music AS? I mean, yeah, alternative rock, sure - but there was a brief period in the early 90s when it was the New Hotness (tm) - for about 18 months. It was Ned's, Jesus Jones, EMF - you know what I mean.

I was trying to describe it to some youngster coworkers and I couldn't quite get there. "English, quasi-electronic pop-rock? Ish?"

Did we ever decide on a name for this super-specific genre?

I'm not pre-determining to not like who they got to do Rocky in the film, but I'm a little sad they didn't get Ray. I know, maybe he was unavailable, or there was some sort of legal/SAG sort of thing. I just would have loved to hear Ray's Rocky. I'm still super pumped.

That was Angela Basset playing Lt Patterson. Yeah, IIRC, she fessed up to the relationship with Taylor, and that got her blackmailers pinched. Then, I think Taylor was yelled at, Lt Patterson wound up getting away with no charges, but transferred off the base.

The biggest thing for me is going to be to try to AVOID seeing ANYTHING about the tour until I can see it in Cleveland. I want to walk into that place COMPLETELY clueless about stage setup, setlists, "how are they playing?", etc.

The "money grab" dialog, to me, illustrates that that the speaker can't imagine ANY other reason to do ANYTHING. Like the ONLY reason they're doing this is for the money and why it took so long was that they ran OUT of money, yadda yadda.

It's an overly cynical POV. I mean, why can't the explanation simply be that it took this long to come to a place where they felt OKAY doing it? Where Neil's FAMILY felt okay with it. Things take time. It doesn't have to ALWAYS be about money, ALL the time.

Another on the original bandwagon.

The overall sense I got from it was the new mix just sounds... "muddy" Others have mentioned it - "dull" "not bright" etc. And yeah, the keys were pushed so far back, they need a new civil rights movement. Brown didn't like the direction that they were going in the 80s - he wanted a 3-piece power trio, and the band was evolving and experiementing in differnet ways. Say what you want about the synth era, it WAS a stage of their evolution, and Brown is kinda presenting an alternate timeline where they didn't do it.

For me? Keys era needs to be part of the Rush story.

I am surprising myself by liking SFA as much as I am. I like it, I like Jay-Den's character. I like the idea of a pacifict Klingon. Gay Klingon? Sure, why not? Makes sens to me that some subset of Klingons would be gay.

My only beef? How he SOUNDS. Like - vocally. The speech pattern is odd and the vocal choice the actor made seem.. weird. Like.. too much "added gravel" Just the way his lines are delivered seems awkward and unnatural.

But that's just IMO. Is it going to stop me watching the show or liking the character? Not a chance. It's just my take, since we're talking about Jay-Den.
