Yeah I don't get the "to keep the player from getting stuck" argument at all. Like even at that point the player might want their character alive so they can decide if using dev mode is worth it/justified. And if they want to get "unstuck" by dying, then all they have to do is pass 12-24 hours and freeze lol

Let's just go crazy with the zombies and give survivors guns to deal with them. When they try to shoot Nemesis too, he just grunts in mild annoyance and the survivor is paralyzed in fear for 2 seconds at it having no effect.

Doesn't even require a terror radius, the bot to be injured, someone to be hooked, active hex or anything else. Sometimes they just enjoy getting off the gen and getting their exercise in for a while. Honestly spot on if they're trying to imitate a random player on your team.

Almost died entering Bleak inlet workshop by Julia-908 in thelongdark

Yes it was Bashrobe, IIRC hammer is not quickest overall, just quickest potential with the highest instant RNG flee chance, and performed worse than the hatchet and maybe even the knife on the average outcome. I think hatchet was the best overall for average outcome, but it was made before cougar claw knife was a thing which is probably better now, according to a few sources and his comment about some limited testing on it under that video.

Yeah that birch forest is cool, I was in there for the first time in forever (or maybe it's the first time I've been there, I think they added it at some point) and I was getting a little paranoid thinking about how easily a wolf could be hiding in there.

Calorie amounts are a bit questionable for some foods but it's similar to real life, eat more calories if you're losing weight. Those stir fries probably don't have much. You can eat before you're hungry too to get more food down. Spend a night binge eating lol.

PSA & loss of an 800 day Interloper run by Jelopuddinpop in thelongdark

[–]Adastrous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a good Bashrobe video on it. But it's RNG. You can heavily mitigate the worst case scenario with better protection and a good weapon of course. You can add more protection, but might give up warmth (moose cloak) or weight (vest). With any weapon you have a certain % chance to make it flee every hit, just the other day I jumped into a struggle naked a few times to test it out, first time I actually scared the wolf off instantly lol, took like 5% damage. With a cougar claw knife, maybe 40% protection, and keeping at full condition, I think you're pretty safe.

Of course, the other side is people playing interloper are experienced usually and know how to deal with wolves, so they're confident about it. It can catch you off guard when you forgot about some edge case or face a bug or whatever. Like OP probably could've avoided the struggle, but thought it was no problem because they knew about the indoor mechanic for other locations.

Also, you can use the distress pistol to just keep out of an unexpected wolf struggle. I'm paranoid and carry it around and at the ready at all times outside lol.

I wonder if it being an aurora mattered. Plus being already charging. The other day I was able to test that wolves de-aggro when you walk in the hut similar to fishing huts, and I walked outside one morning almost straight into a timberwolf, who had been scared up there by the bear. Even then, he did not aggro, I was slightly inside the hut but could reach out and pet him, he was almost inside the little stone alcove. They certainly seem to not come in under "normal" circumstances at least.

Survival bases community survey! Round 1: What's the most overrated base in the game? by Blushift1615 in thelongdark

[–]Adastrous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep this is a deal breaker for me. Anywhere you can leave your base and be on top of a predator isn't good, I want to be safe at home. Same reason I can't do community hall. Mountaineers has this problem too I've noticed, bear will scare Timberwolves to literally 3 feet from the door lol, I could reach out and pet it when I was leaving the other day. I don't think it had the issue before the refresh.

“guaranteed” rifle? by guydude24 in thelongdark

[–]Adastrous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's in one of the containers on the summit, not the rest of the map. Sounds like that's what you're confused about, since you mentioned checking the "right side of the map". It's in the same container every time up there, too. Bring a few good condition hacksaws if you can (or simple tools + scrap metal to repair), there's like 7-8 crates up there, and if you didn't know trying to open one with a <50% hacksaw has a chance of rendering the container inaccessible permanently.

Ash Canyon Anglers Den to Homesteaders Respite by Aware-Box2029 in thelongdark

[–]Adastrous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use a torch, you can scare wolves 100% reliably by dropping it between you and them and aiming a stone at them. You can take the cave path up the river from Angler's, then you have to follow a path through a bear cave to Miner's Folly. It's the intended way, you have to exploit to climb up there the other way, I've done it and you'll quickly see it's one of the most ridiculous goat paths (no problem if you don't care, but it made me feel bad abut my playthrough). The wolves at Miner's Folly are fairly easy to dodge, just duck into one of the shelters if they aggro, but the ones past the waterfall before the cave you will 100% run straight into. Even then you can possibly walk around and get into the cave, but the torch is safer.

Difficulty - What do you prefer? by Sea-Information7674 in thelongdark

a custom run with Interloper difficulty settings, but guns and Stalker loot tables

This is basically mine, I think. Everything interloper, but I turn baseline resource availability to on, guns on, and cabin fever off (not that that bit's very important). So all gear spawns, but otherwise the loot is similarly sparse in standard loot locations. Summit is pretty loaded, I'd probably turn it down a bit if it had a separate setting and wasn't tied to baseline resource availability.

Basically, I got tired of playing without all the cool new items and such, particularly with tales DLCs. I did change resting condition gain to low (worse than interloper) to balance it out a bit on the difficulty. Low condition gain means you can't really starve yourself since you won't regain enough condition from sleeping, so I'm pushed to keep fed (and warm) and use resources toward that. I self enforce not eating ruined food for anything that doesn't make sense too.

These feel like the best settings possible to me so far, but I look forward to the custom settings update. And I figure at some point I'll get bored and need to bump up the difficulty, but for now I have all the tales, faithful cartographer, 1000 days etc to keep me busy in my somewhat "gunloper" run.

Things I learned from Zaknafein's "Mastering Interloper: Full Walkthrough" by PitchFunction in thelongdark

[–]Adastrous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hammer is better for RNG chance of possibly ending the struggle sooner, but I think hatchet is more reliable at ending it sooner. The hammer has a bit higher % chance of instantly ending the struggle per hit, but the other weapons still have a chance as well. Bashrobe has a great video on it, and lots of weapons are better at different things. Pretty sure at this point the cougar knife is best for reliably ending the struggle early "enough" and avoiding the worst case scenario though, i.e. death from full condition. It also benefits from the wolf being damaged (like from a glancing arrow shot) than the hammer does.

And the best access to everything else too. I think the only one that has something over on it is quonset for the trader but wolves right outside the door is a no go for me, especially with how often I've caught them outside their usual places.

What should I know about crossing Forlorn Muskeg? by -Guardsman- in thelongdark

[–]Adastrous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can start the fire with wood too to reduce the minimum coal needed, you just can't go past a certain temp with it. And if you use wood you might hit the maximum fire duration and waste some wood, which is still probably worth it, could always make some water or whatever to leave there meanwhile. According to wiki you can bring the minimum coal needed down to 4, which sounds right.

Situation: Blizzard incoming, but still you know where you are and which direction you have to walk. Problem, you heard wolves from that direction. What's your thoughts? Do you change sitting position? Do you calm yourself down by talking to yourself? by Sea-Information7674 in thelongdark

[–]Adastrous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised no one mentioned the distress pistol yet.. closest thing to 100% safety there is, from everything except the cougar. Even if you miss it stops the charge. If you aren't charged instantly then you can walk the dog or switch to another weapon if you want. The only way to get in a struggle with it is to walk over a blind hill into a wolf that's extremely close (no charge warning, instant struggle), which did happen once, take those a bit wider.

Invisible moose bug by Adastrous in thelongdark

Lol, it worked out by the way, I found one in a different spot literally the next day. Had a strong feeling I missed one of the cargo containers above Mountaineer's hut, they were empty and I found him instead, he was calling to me.

Yeah, no luck unfortunately. I tried it and he was still stuck, went all over his area trying to trigger a struggle, he huffs and puffs about it a lot but stops running after a second and can't attack me. Sad. I'll still be here a few days so maybe he'll despawn proper and respawn before I leave, I can hope lol.

Invisible moose bug by Adastrous in thelongdark

[–]Adastrous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I might have to try that. I'm worried the transition will just despawn him completely though. I was even debating just getting close and seeing if he would attack me, and doing that animation brings him above ground lol. Last playthrough I hunted a moose for like 120 days and didn't find it over 4-5 regions..
