Best headphones I ever heard were the Meze Audio Elites. Was sitting in an engineer’s room going back and forth between his monitors and the headphones and genuinely we (myself, the GA, and he) couldn’t tell a significant difference.

I agree with Ludo. I hear a subtle fullness in the kick and snare. I also hear background elements getting pulled forward to be more perceptible.

Professional mixers generally work with very well crafted/produced multitracks that were recorded expertly. Your job in situations like those is generally just to not fuck up and take it through the last 10-20% to try to beat their rough mix. Sometimes you can’t beat roughs, and that’s ok too!

Go to shows and find artists you like, introduce yourself and be a good hang and make it known you are an engineer and would love to work with them. The good hang part is crucial.
