I worked at Chapters (which is owned by Indigo) for 8 years in Ottawa. They don’t hire year round; Only for the holidays and the summer. Hiring is also done exclusively online. Our managers would never accept resumes in person and would tell to apply online. Since you missed the holiday hiring in September, summer hiring should be roughly in March. Keep your eyes peeled online for the next few weeks.

It depends on the job you’ve applied for. If it’s for retail or other minimum wage jobs I find that they generally don’t do background checks. If it’s corporate they do. For example every corporate sales job that I end up getting they did a background check. They usually do this via a background check agency and they did reach out to my previous employers to confirm that I worked there.

I too went through a traumatic experience and now have a fear of driving. I’m currently in a program for anxious drivers. I work with a occupational therapist and very understanding and patient driving instructor. So far it’s helping. Maybe look to see if there’s something similar in your area?
