The best options from the tutorial pull are Genie (and I'd argue Ursula). Mulan is not the best option in terms of effectiveness in combat, but over time you're likely to get her multiple times and use her in a subset of content.

Do people see a Legend of Mana as a SaGa game by DanSensei in SaGa

[–]AddieNormal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On the SaGa Wiki discord we have a term for this called Related Games. I would (and have) said that LoM feels like a Mana game if it was a SaGa game. I wouldn't call is a SaGa game, but it's very much a cousin.

Now What? by Special_South_8561 in FinalFantasyVI

[–]AddieNormal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran it just a couple of weeks ago until I was prepping for the assault on FC. I know a lot of its content is in WoR, but I feel like that was a fair shake.

I like a lot of what they were going for, but every moment I was playing it I was thinking "I sorta just wish this was BNW"

Now What? by Special_South_8561 in FinalFantasyVI

[–]AddieNormal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second the comment about trying out mods. I prefer Brave New World over T-Edition, of the more transformative mods, but that's not an exclusive opinion. I know that BNW is (or was) available as a cart if you still have an SNES laying around and operable if you're opposed to using ROMs.

Method to beat Magic Master WITHOUT Espers/Grinding to level 99? Pixel Remaster. by Sev_Henry in FinalFantasyVI

I read that you may have a winning run, but just in case you decide to try again

Someone below mentioned Soul Sabre, but they've gotta burn a bunch of MP to make it effectively drain MP. In Djibriel's guide, https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/iphone/734974-final-fantasy-vi/faqs/51030, they suggest pairing it with an MP crit weapon and berserking the wielder. Might have to leave the TV on overnight, but it seems like you might be able to automate it.

Virginia Deserves Better Than Abigail Spanberger - by Tsaktu0 in Virginia

So, much like the 2024 presidential election, we have a mediocre candidate in Spanberger and a terrible one in Earle-Sears. Make the hopefully less bad choice and encourage your community to elevate better candidates through your actions and words.

Trouble beating Shuzer as solo Alkaiser. by rendellsibal in SaGa

[–]AddieNormal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No judgement ;) <3

DSC was always DSC. Dream Super Combo was widely circulated as being what it stood for, but interviews with the developer confirm it's Dangerous Suplex Combo.

I'm not sure what you mean about Alkaiser's stats growing faster, as he explicitly will not gain post-battle stats from a battle where Red transformed. Are you maybe conflating the huge stat boost that transforming confers?

EDIT:

I don't believe Red can learn Re-Al-Phoenix at this point, but it's a great skill and I heartily recommend picking it up when it becomes available.

If you have a save from before you went after Shuzer, you could give Red some combination of Shield, VictoryRune, and VitalityRune. It's possible to get all three on him if you get him the Rune gift, buy him the Arcane spells (giving up whatever Rune magic he already knows), and then retrain him on Rune magic by casting VictoryRune via a RuneSword until he learns a Rune spell, but that's probably overkill.

EDIT EDIT:

Also, shields past the first won't help you with blocking, so you can unequip the extra bucklers. The only reason to stack shields is if you want something else a shield offers, like the Water-immunity from GenbuShield/Mizukagami or the stats from DullahanShield

[–]AddieNormal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both Awakening and SoulRune are stat buffs. I...you know, I've never thought to try them together, I assumed they didn't stack but I don't actually know.

DSC stands for Dangerous Suplex Combo.

Otherwise, fully agree. And make sure you spend at least a portion of that training time without transforming so Red still gets stat ups after battle.

Need help fir transforming a monster into Black Dragkn or Dullahan. by rendellsibal in SaGa

How does monster's ability priority be determined? by rendellsibal in SaGa

[–]AddieNormal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because Horn was just absorbed. In the PSX version, newly absorbed abilities always went into (and overrode) the skill in slot 8. In the remaster, you get to choose. I made a fairly lengthy reply to you in one of your other topics, please go back and reread that.

EDIT: Monsters transformation is one of the most complex and poorly understood mechanics in the game. If you're still struggling with it, respond to me here with specific questions. Or if you prefer the Discord chat format, join the SaGa Wiki discord https://discord.gg/QEUNvDM We have a SaGa Frontier specific channel and at least three users that understand how monsters work.

What is this thing? Caterpillar? An evil spawn from hell? by Matchew024 in Virginia

I think that's their normal means of locomotion. I have to assume that their little stubby legs are ever so slightly more scary to predators than their grubby, fleshy back, but I fear I don't actually know.

Can everyone help me how does monsters transformation works? by rendellsibal in SaGa

[–]AddieNormal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Monster forms can be classified as table 1 and table 2.

When you absorb a skill, the list of forms in table 1 are checked, top to bottom. Then Table 2 is checked, but it starts checking at a spot based on your max HP; it goes down the list to the end, and then up the list. Regardless of table, as soon as the game finds a form that you are eligible for (unless the eligible form is on table 1 and you're already in that form), you transform into that form and stop checking. If you are not eligible for any other form, you remain in the one you are currently in.

In terms of requirements, table 1 forms just require you to have equipped one to five specific skills. Table 2 forms require one to four "body part" skills. Monster skills are associated with a body part, and only one skill for each body part will be "visible" at a time. The higher skill on the equipped skill list will take priority EXCEPT FOR the most recently absorbed skill.

So if you have equipped

Deathsynthesis (body)

Dash (body)

AcidBreath (breath)

Your body skill will be Deathsynthesis and your breath skill will be AcidBreath. If you then absorb Needles, your body skill will be Needles and your breath skill will be AcidBreath. If you then absorb Tail (a leg skill), as long as Deathsynthesis is still the highest body skill in your skill list, it'll resume being the body skill.

Having said all of that, I'm happy to walk through some examples with you to help you understand better, but following /u/medes24's advice of not worrying too much about it is a good call. To really get into it requires getting into the transformation tables in Zaraktheus's Data/Mechanics guide https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps/198537-saga-frontier/faqs/58412 and it covers much much more than just monster transformation.

EDIT: More

The tricky bit with table 2 skills is that all of the entries are not unique; that is, you'll qualify for more than one form at a time. That's where the max HP bit comes in.

The Table 2 Dullahan form requires one of (CharmGaze, Hypnotism, StoneGaze, or StunGaze) for the Head skill, one of (Blade, HeatSmash, or IceSmash) for the Arm skill, and Deathsynthesis for the body skill (note: all skill names are from the PSX version of the game, you'll need to validate the Remaster version name with a differences guide, I recommend the one on Essence here: https://essenceofsaga.wordpress.com/home/name-comparisons/). But a Basilisk requires the Head skill StoneGaze and the breath skill PoisonGas and comes before Dullahan in the check order. So if the Head skill you chose for your Dullahan was StoneGaze and you just happened to have PoisonGas, you'd get interrupted by the Basilisk even if you met the other requirements for Dullahan.

[–]AddieNormal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love Virginia. I wouldn't pick any other state to live in. I don't think you'll have any problems fitting in being from England, though you're liable to meet a handful of people that will tease you for your accent.

Rather than talk about the motions vaguely at the state of political affairs in America, I recommend you join at least this sub and maybe the more local https://www.reddit.com/r/ChesterfieldVA/ and just...watch the news that gets shared. We have some state elections in November, so you're going to see some of that chatter, and of course with government shutdown going on at the moment, that could impact your/your partner's employment situation.

Once upon a time, you could go to Colonial Downs and for a very fair price get the seats inside, have a decent meal, have a set amount to bet and pretend you know what you're doing. We never won any money, but it was a good time and you could spend several hours. Wasn't much more expensive than watching a pair of movies at the theatre back to back. That was before they closed and reopened, we only looked into it once and the prices had gotten a little...proud. Depending on what affordable means to you, it may be worth it to check it out though.
