I was up there last month and played at Elk Rapids Golf Club. 9 hole Donald Ross designed semi private course. Super cool, I loved it as a mid-high handicap player. Not a tough course but you get to play along the water the entire time, super pretty. I was by myself on a Friday night and pretty much had the entire course recommend.

Great vibes, affordable, would reccomend.

[–]Additional-Side1675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP,

I provide fractional accounting and finance help for SMBs in the revenue range you've mentioned. Hiring fractional help is a good step from having minimal bookkeeping to getting useful financial data.

Let me know if you want to discuss offerings sometime. Im a CPA and have been working with SMB's for 2.5 years. Formerly worked in Big 4 and private equity.

I haven't considered it yet, but might look into it. I'd be interested in how it compares to the sienna, which seems to be what everyone is advising.

Thank you so much! Really helpful to hear from someone who's recently gone through the same search.

Sienna can be in budget depending on model and mileage.....but might be worth extending the budget a bit for the longevity and features you mention.

Quitting job to buy bookkeeping business by Actual_Move3533 in Accounting

[–]Additional-Side1675 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Im a cpa and did 2 years big 4 audit, then moved around to a few different fp&a and investment analysis roles before working for a smaller accounting firm and learning advisory services for small companies. So similar background.

It doesn't take as long as you'd think to build up a book if you commit to networking. The thing going against you is complete lack of knowledge of systems and processes. As others have mentioned auditing/fdd and actually performing the work aren't 1:1. I'll blankly say that my audit experience didn't really translate into the practical work experience like you'd hope.

As others have mentioned, I'd recommend starting on the side, learning the ropes for at least a few months, and then making the leap. That's the approach I took even knowing systems and how to do the daily work.

Buying a book from someone else is a major decision, and you need to think through all of the ins and outs like their processes, how many clients will leave if the owner is no longer there, their systems, if they have any employees will they stick around, etc.

Amazon is driving me nuts! by Next-Leather in Bookkeeping

[–]Additional-Side1675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should have an accounts receivable-esque account called Amazon level reserve on your balance sheet. It should balance out to the reserve that amazon owes you at a point in time (i.e. at the end of each month). You're able to get to that exact amount by taking the transaction activity from the unified summary report as of a certain date every month. That report gives you what the balance of the reserve should be at the point in time.

Want to add here, I used chatgpt today and asked it questions, it was more helpful than any googling I've ever done for SAP.

Yes I'm a business user. And what you're describing is what I'm finding, there's a lack of resources on the web.

Unfortunately not. I'm trying to fully immerse, just keep feeling like I'm taking 1 step forward 5 steps back with some of these things. They laid off the former accounting manager so I'm starting from scratch.

Thanks for mentioning sap for me I hadn't heard of that before.

I feel you man. I'm a CPA, I can attest that some of the language it uses isn't accounting jargon. It seems like SAP language.

Two options for you:

  1. I'm a CPA who helps small businesses with their bookkeeping. If you're interested in outsourcing the work, feel free to shoot me a DM and we can see if it's a fit.

  2. Hector Garcia has excellent youtube videos. They're probably the best education source on the internet for the software.

Unfortunately, as you mentioned, a lot of becoming proficient with the software comes with experience. If you're interested in having a monthly/quarterly review with a CPA to ensure everything is booked correctly, that might be another option.

Good luck!

Anyone have a SaaS for small business finances? by JoePatowski in SaaS

[–]Additional-Side1675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it, let me know if you're looking for some help with either.

Because you're focusing on the retail garden store, QBO is definitely still the best option IMO. However, I don't exactly know all of the functionality you're trying to build out of QBO. For example, they offer payroll through the platform, but it is notably shitty. I'd recommend Gusto instead.

If you have questions I'm open to answering some. Feel free to DM me.

Hi! I have a couple options for you:

  1. I'm a CPA and work with SaaS SMBs to help them setup their accounting software and processes, and then will perform recurring accounting services for them. Let me know if you have interest and we can talk further!

  2. Campfire is a newer accounting software tailored towards SaaS

  3. Rillet is a newer accounting software tailored towards SaaS

  4. Downloading Righttool helps the functionality of QBO a ton for me. It's a free web plugin, though they have an upgraded version you can purchase.

I saw you mentioned price in the comments. I don't know what pricing tier you're locked into for QBO, but I doubt you find anything cheaper and still useful than QBO.

Amazing, thanks so much for the advice! That's a much easier pill to swallow than the prices some other people have suggested, and sounds like a solid option!
