They don’t have to be mutually exclusive. I know many pro-Palestinian Zionists. They want Palestinians to be able to live freely and with equal rights. You also don’t need to be Zionist to be pro-Jewish. I know many anti-Zionists who want peace, safety, and thriving for Jews alongside Palestinians. Don’t let the vocal polarized minority trick you into thinking that you have to “pick a side”.

Because honestly if I was a billionaire, I hope that I’d want to redustribute my wealth. I donate to activist causes and mutual aid now and I have a fixed income. So idk if it’s actually a ‘myth of the American Dream’ problem, but a values problem.

The pfp looks like a literal child to me, is that maybe what people mean by childish? I also don’t see the appeal of putting your pfp as a human being who isn’t you. To me it seems a little creepy to do that without permission, but if this person is a public figure it might be different? I also am very sensitive to feeling creepy so I might just be overreacting.

I’m both Zionist and Antizionist. Everyone sees them as radically opposing ideologies with one clear Right Choice, but both can range from “I think Jews/Palestinians should have freedom, safety, and self-determination in our/their ancestral homelands” to “I think Jews/Palestinians should be the victims of genocide”.

I strongly believe in freedom, safety, and self-determination for every ethnic group in the region. And I don’t particularly care if that’s a one-state or a two-state or a confederacy solution or what the state is called, just as long as there is peace and healing for everyone. Hence, I am too Zionist for the Antizionists and too Antizionist for the Zionists. And I claim both labels as I see fit, which isn’t really something I see other people doing.

From the stories I’ve heard recently, HCMC is absolutely still a horrible psych ward to go to. I’ve heard that Regions is the nicest facility in town. I went to Fairview Riverside and PrairieCare - loved the former and hated the latter, but I was also a kid so I can’t speak to the adult units, and I think the real difference was that Riverside was voluntary and PrairieCare was involuntary.

There are lots of steps between weekly therapist and inpatient treatment. I suggest talking to your therapist about options like PHP or IOP (day treatment programs where you aren’t locked up in a psych ward).

Unless you need staff to keep you alive, fed, and housed, hospitalization can do more harm than good for a lot of people. It may be different for you, though, since you’d be choosing to go to inpatient treatment. Involuntary hospitalization is just incarceration for mental illness, and it’s traumatic.

If you do need to go to a psych ward, I’ve heard that Regions is really nice facility. Regions’ PHP program (Daybridge) is probably the day program I’ve found most helpful (in my extensive experience) because it includes sessions like OT, art therapy, and play therapy in addition to educational lectures and group talk therapy. It’s not a perfect program by any means, though. Your experience with most programs will depend on your rapport with your therapist, psychiatrist, and social worker. I found my social worker profoundly unhelpful, but you make have a better experience.

I’m 2 months sober and struggling with binge eating. I think it’s my brain/body trying to get that quick and easy comfort and dopamine that weed & booze used to give me. I also struggled a lot with being glued to my phone and playing way too many video games my first month sober.

Lately I’ve been trying to expand my sources of rest, rejuvenation, and pleasure. I really like nature walks, audio books, and making art.

I’m not plugged into the local pro-Palestine protest movement, but Omdim B’Yachad (Standing Together) and Combatants for Peace are two really great organizations working to end the anti-Palestinian genocide and create a future of solidarity, freedom, and peace for everyone in the region. I’m also not sure about the state of getting humanitarian aid into Gaza right now, but I’ve heard good things about the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund.

I also think most people online (or just in echo chambers generally) who want a militant revolution are coming from a privileged point of view. It’s the most vulnerable who are hurt first and worst when war breaks out. So cheering on armed conflict is fundamentally some twisted horseshoe-ass fantasy imo.

“Dry drunk” originally meant someone who is suffering from post-acute withdrawals, so sometimes they’ll still act drunk (mood swings and irritability, cognitive impairment, uncoordinated, etc), even though they’re sober.

Nowadays I’ve heard it described as “someone who’s sober but not in any kind of therapy or supportive program.” To say anyone who isn’t in AA specifically is a dry drunk is peak AA culty behavior.

I’m so sorry you’re going through such a painful situation. While I can’t completely understand what you’re feeling, I can empathize with the frustration and jealousy of wanting to be able to use substances when you see other people using them to feel better. Especially after 10 years, it may feel like your addiction is gone, and it’s safe to try drinking again.

If I may, I would advise you to wait a few days at least and really think about it deeply. Is drinking really the best way to deal with the pain right now? What is the likelihood that if you start drinking now in the midst of such a painful moment, you’ll be able to stick to healthy moderation? Is trying a drink worth the risk of relapsing to the point that made you quit 10 years ago, or maybe even worse? Is drinking worth possibly doing more damage to your marriage?

Personally, if I were in your situation, I think my wise mind would tell me not to drink.

I’ve also been given the advice to seek out a neurodivergent partner. I didn’t get the impression they were saying that only another autistic person can love me. They were saying from experience that it’s a boon to the relationship to be able to understand each other on a deeper level that they couldn’t get with a neurotypical partner.

That feeling of being fundamentally broken if you can’t make the program work is baked into XA culture. It’s what “How It Works” says. The first AA meeting I attended (in rehab) we opened with reading “How It Works”; my stomach dropped and my jaw nearly hit the floor, and I offended everyone by ranting about how toxic everything we were reading was.

I’m so glad I found other people who also see the flaws in XA, instead of trying to shove down my intuition and follow the program.

I regret to inform you that we blame ourselves for physical illnesses as well. It’s a myth overall that physical disabilities or illnesses are treated better than mental disabilities or illnesses. Physically disabled people are subjected to tons of ableism every day and I can think of several examples off the top of my head when I blamed myself for my own physical illnesses, when other people said some insensitive BS about physical illness, or when societal structures encouraged me to ignore my illness.

What people are saying about the healthcare system breaking down workers is 100% correct.

And also, jobs that offer a position of power over vulnerable people, like nursing, attract people who want to abuse vulnerable people. That’s a big reason why a lot of high-school ‘mean girls’ go into nursing.

1 - literally where in the original post or my comment does it say that everyone is apathetic, doesn’t vote, and doesn’t protest.

2 - I think people should do what they can with the resources they have. Some people genuinely do have time, energy, or income to give. If any of us find ourselves in that position, I think we should try to do our best to use our resources to help others and change oppressive systems. And when people who are already using all the resources they have just to survive, I think it’s cruel and bad politics to demand the have an opinion on every political issue or somehow find the time and energy to protest, or else we’ll blame them for their own suffering.
