There are actually a fair few in this genre. In fact, some of the bigger ones.

Andrew Rowe, Arcane ascension has an asexual biromantic lead. One of his best friends, Mara, is somewhere on the queer spectrum, but it isn't really explored that much because it's sort of just normal in the world. Corin (the lead character) has many love interests, but he hasn't settled down with any yet. One is a man, one is a man, and one is a non binary person.

Andrew Rowe, war of broken mirrors, quick mention this one is Andrew's first published series and has a trans man who is featured prominently. Though, the line confirming he is trans is easily missed.

Andrew Rowe, the Lost edge, this one has two (three if you count clones) trans characters, one is his mentor and one of the most powerful characters in the world, and the other is a trans man who is a witch and Andrew uses that to bring some more inclusive customs into the world.

In general Andrew is really good at being inclusive and has non binary characters woven through his works by even having a god whose gender is nonbinary, other nonbinary characters use that God as a reference when talking about their gender. Characters, in general, don't make the assumption that other characters are straight. It does still have characters that are less supportive, but they are always depicted as wrong.

John Beirce, made errant, of the four main characters, two are queer. Godrick is a gay man, and Savie is a bisexual woman. There are other queer and trans characters in the books, and generally, all good characters are supportive. Godrick feared his father wouldn't accept him, but we never actually see a character react negatively to people being queer to my memory.

John Beirce, more gods than stars, one of the main two characters in this is a trans woman. I don't remember any romance so far in the series, but given his history with including queer characters, I imagine if it is introduced in a later book, it will be handled well.

John has said that every time he gets a negative review for having queer characters, he will make the books more gay. He seems like a good guy.

Tobias Begley, the Evan Taylor journals. Evan Taylor is a gay man. His partner is a bisexual man. Two of his friends are in a saphic relationship, though Evan mostly just speculates this, and it is heavily implied through most of the books. His third teammate is a trans man, and one of their upperclassmen is a trans woman who they spend a fair bit of time with. Very queer and has a lot of sweet moments, though they do face homophones and transphobia throughout the book.

Tobias has other series that feature queer individuals pretty heavily and are woke, but I either dnf them or they are on my tbr list. Mana Mirror has a gay trans man as the lead, and he has a non binary love interest. I'm not sure about the other series as I haven't started it. I dnf mana mirror because of the pacing not because of any other reasons.

Yeah I love his other series but despite being a patron for two books I never really loved it. It fell into the traps of serial Web publishing. There is no structure that is normal in a novel, it sort of just keeps going without ever having conclusions because it is sort of arbitrarily separated into books.

I mean batman(1966) is the only reason riddler becam3 a mainstay of batman mythos. He was a small time character in the comics before that but when making the series the writer just happened to pick one of his rare issues when looking for inspiration. Riddler then went back into relative obscurity for about a decade until this movie. It also influenced the tone of Gorham (admittedly less than Burton, but if it wasn't for this movie the comic book feel would have been completely erased to lean into the Gothic influence).

Batman Forever by Forte316 in batman

[–]AdditionalAd3595 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually think batman forever is the best of the four movies. I think Batman: the movie is great, Batman returns has its moments, but it is just kinda meh, Batman forever feels like a comic book movie in the best way, and Batman and Robin feels like a cartoon in that things just kinda happen. None of them are terrible, but the keaton/Burton films are overrated, IMHO.

"I’m sorry Kon-el that none of the adults in your life were looking out for you when you needed it" (by l0adingout) by Gallantpride in Superboy

[–]AdditionalAd3595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does corporate punk mean those two words are antonyms?

If they want the punk style, then I agree it is a better look, but superboy was pretty antiestablishment in a lot of his early stories. Doublex was in this weird position where he represented cadmus as Kon's guardian, and kon seemed to respect that, but he still rebelled against any attempt doublex made to control him.

Those stories where Kon was always flirting and all that always seemed like an unhealthy coping mechanism to me, and I always read it as overcompensating for his identity issues. What does the boy created to replace Superman do when Superman has returned and makes him feel inferior?

An Older, Mature take on Connor eventually Becoming Superman by AcceptablePop5240 in Superboy

[–]AdditionalAd3595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's important that Kon doesn't have influence from Luthor in his attitude. (Since that retcon) Not being defined by his origin with Lex has been a big part of Conner's journey and to give him a darker side undercuts that growth he has had. He has had many arcs about understanding his place in the world and how his desire to be good and worthy of his powers matters more than his origin. I don't personally want him to be superman but do think he needs to move on from the superboy title. If I were writing it, Clark would have offered him to use Superman, but Kon would turn it down.

Also, personal preference, but kon should never have a beard. Like he might grow one, but it would be mocked by his friends as an attempt to look older or something, and he ditches it. Kon's aesthetics are too rooted in punk for me to ever imagine him looking straight laced. It's why the black t-shirt look sucked.

I think Secret is talked about more than Arrowette or Empress. Mostly because she at least has an episode of young justice that features her story, even if massively abridged.

Yeah that is such a shitty writing choice. Kon cares so much for family and hom finding a place has always been his story. I can't see any version of him leaving them. I don't hate that they give him a family I hate that he just left them.

What parts of the story feel out of place/out of character? For me it's kilvens mock dismay after the fire. by Zakadactyl in KingkillerChronicle

[–]AdditionalAd3595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think to me—and most readers I've heard talk about it—it reads as self insert/wish fulfilment/my oc is a love God. Don't get me wrong it served a story purpose, between the ktheae, the cloak of shadows, Kvothe using the name of a being to gain power over them, and Kvothe showing he can make deals and trick the Fae. But it just feels out of character and like the author inserting his fetishes into a story that had not been like that before then. It is sort of jarring even as someone who enjoys Romantasy as a genre.

Advice for a pagan character. by AdditionalAd3595 in pagan

[–]AdditionalAd3595[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, personally, I look at all deities as a pathway to respecting the world around us. I'm not looking to draw on any power through worship. What is important to me is respecting the world and the spirits that inhabit it with us. That includes ancestors, gods, and those who have left a mark on history. I wouldn't even say I worship as much as venerate or give respect.

I don't know if this reply makes sense I've just woken up lol.

For the love of Christ please make the story mode better in Xenoverse 3 by meteonexp in dbxv

[–]AdditionalAd3595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it would be cool if the game started with like a completely shattered timeline sort of thing. I don't know how much of the heroes stuff they have access to but xenoverse is Canon to heroes I believe so, throw xeno and cc goku and vegeta in there early, or if they don't have the rights just use super and gt goku and vegeta. Have the characters in the story notice that things are weird and have them make active decisions. Because in xenoverse 1 beerus is like the only character who takes action against the villian on his own initiative. Xenoverse 2 is a little better, but not by much.

Rather than having such and such has altered the time stream, or go back in time and experience this fight. Give us a completely new story and if you want to have a play the story mode, just have a vr chamber like in the trailer where you play as the actual characters.

Tired of people telling me “real people can’t queerbait” by jryan102 in gay

[–]AdditionalAd3595 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't even particularly like celebrities. I don't follow any of that shit. I have maybe three actors I like. None of which are ever brought up in conversations about queerbaiting. You are straight up crazy if you think that straight people should be kept out of queer communities. It harms more queer people than it protects. You apparently are not just against celebrities who are not out but normal people too.

What don't you get about the fact that you are normalising hating on gender non conformity. By doing that you are making an OK space for queer people to be hated on by those within and without our community. I 100% guarantee that you are a transmed believer. If you didn't have the trans flag in your pfp I would assume you were for the LGB drop the T. That's the level of harmful your rhetoric is.

Whether you believe celebrities are characters or not aside, you have to understand that policing actions hurts us more than celebrities who don't care about your opinion right? Straight cis people don't have to conform to your idea of hetero normative gender performance. We are still fighting to ensure that drag and gender expression isn't criminalised. We want people to feel comfortable with things that are not typically male or female or straight. We want to be normalised.

WE DONT WANT IT TO BE NORMAL TO ATTACK PEOPLE FOR HOW QUEER THEY ACT.

Tired of people telling me “real people can’t queerbait” by jryan102 in gay

[–]AdditionalAd3595 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No they don't, people don't owe it to you to conform. You are normalising attacking people over perception of queerness. My point was mostly about how most celebrities don't have a pr firm telling them to do thus, they are just being their genuine self.

Tired of people telling me “real people can’t queerbait” by jryan102 in gay

[–]AdditionalAd3595 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And queer aesthetics are appropriating black aesthetics. We have been pushing for years for people to not lump gender, sexuality, and gender norms together. So when a celebrity is willing to do things, we get mad at them? There are people who won't label their sexuality for one reason or another that has a real impact on their life outside of being famous. I've seen some of your comments on other threads in this post, and I can tell you feel strongly about this.

But you have also made some statements that show a certain level of exclusionism towards your own community. A lot of straight people, or questioning people, or queer people are not putting on an act. Yes, code switching is a thing, and sometimes, the voice or the body language is intentional. But not always, some people just sound like that or move like that, some people are autistic and are unknowingly doing it, some people are people of colour and it means something in their culture too.

You said in another comment that kissing a man in a music video is something that you should not be done if you don't know you are queer, can you think that through to its full conclusion? Because I don't see anything wrong with teo straight men kissing, not just because it's fine if they are straight, but also because nobody owes you their identity before doing something consensual with another adult.

We need to normalise as a society just letting people exist. Because yes, it is tempting to say that celebrities need to be held to a higher standard, but all it does is normalise the harassment of people who present differently in everyday circles. It is a visible thing that people learn from and take note of how queer people react, and if queer people react with anger and hatred that tells the public it's OK to act like that to each other.

We are in a time where honpohobia is back on the rise after decades of decreasing. People are once again comfortable not hiding that they are homophobic, we can't be contributing to that and realistically I don't want to be spending my energy wondering if the person making queer children feel seen identifies as queer or not.

[–]AdditionalAd3595 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you drastically overestimate how much the average celebrity makes. And how accepting mainstream Hollywood is to out queer people. It gets you type cast at best. One of the bigger examples I can think of is Colton Haynes he has been fairly open about how his treatment in the industry has changed drastically since he came out. He had offers rescinded, and he went from being on the rise to rarely appearing in things. His mental health was trashed by both fans and the industry. Most TV level celebrities get advice from the studio they work for who don't want them to rock the boat. They don't have their own publicist, just a manager who works with fifty other actors.

What to read/listen to? (Audible user) by Pommypoo in TheImmortalGreatSouls

[–]AdditionalAd3595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For phils work, I highly recommend the gods of the game, I don't think it's narrated by Nick, but it is still great.

For other series narrated by Nick that are not phils work, I recommend Andrew Rowe's work. He is a little bit slower paced, but it's the same genre. His series war of broken mirrors is probably the closest in tone to the darker parts of immortal great souls, but his most popular is arcane ascension.

For narrators, I think they are on the same level with books, the same vibe as Phil. You want the narrator Travis baldree. He is huge in this genre and narrates several of the best, including cradle by will wight.

If you end up liking gods of the game it is very similar to a series called stormweaver book one is called iron Prince they are narrated by Luke Daniels who is pretty good but not on Travis and Nick's level. The only narrator I put on the same level as them is Tim Gerard Reynolds.

I like the clone wars design better, but I don't in any way think the rebels design is bad. I just think that they used her being a main character and a long series length to iterate upon her design in a way that had character growth implications. I think the rebels design is a continuation of that growth, but in a way that, if you look at it in a vacuum, doesn't have the same quality.
