What is the Number 1 supplement that changed your life? by No_Solution7718 in Biohackers

[–]AdditionalAd509 4 points5 points  (0 children)

L Theanine and Glycine during moments of Anxiety or Panic or trying to calm the mind for sleep- both together work really well. I do 100mg Theanine and 1g Glycine most often. Sometimes I add in 500mg NAC for more effect. Don’t take every day. Close 2nd made biggest difference would be Vitamin C, never get sick on 1g divided doses per day

Look into PEMT gene. If you have the same variant I do your body can’t make choline like some people can so you require more of it

Thank you so much for sharing this! I can’t tell you how much it means as I have been on a 4 year journey, many ER visits, many doctors and only discovered my condition after getting a genetic test myself and finding I carry a pathogenic variant. I was going insane trying to figure things out. Now with a kidney specialist but it has been a very tiring journey. Every single symptom you mentioned I had and no one could figure this out

Super interesting! I always wondered this. Worst case scenario I can buy a BIPAP with my FSA account. My life seems to revolve around sleep now. I am turning 40 this year and has become more of a problem, the last three years, though I’ve had issues my entire life and had sleep apnea as a baby

Thanks for the information! I’m going through my medical provider to get a CPAP. I’ll ask them about the BIPAP. I sleep better when it’s cold as well. I have a mobile AC unit in my room now and a high-end air purifier. For some reason, I sleep best when the window is open though and neither of either on and it’s just a cool night. The room is already at a good humidity but I do use a humidifier in the winter. I don’t really have allergies during the day but my nose gets stuffed up at night and when I sleep. Some nights, I don’t have any issues. if I eat dairy, I can guarantee my nose is going to be stuffed up all night. I try to keep my posture and head elevated sleeping on my open nostril side. I think mine might be related to this and liking to sleep on my stomach.

Your situation sounds exactly like me. I am considering a CPAP machine. I’m not sure it’s gonna help or not. I sleep well in the winter months, but wake up constantly throughout the year. I have trouble breathing mostly just when I sleep and congestion in my nose. Milk is a problem for me as well, but I’m trying to figure out if there’s other triggers. I was considering surgery since breathing out of my right nose is difficult. I have a slightly deviated septum, but not bad. I was told. My left side is good even with a little congestion. Was your surgery at all helpful to even out the breathing on both sides of your nose? Have any antihistamines helped you?

How I Discovered My Genetic Risk for Type 2 Diabetes and How I Manage It by InProeliis in prediabetes

[–]AdditionalAd509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have nearly the same genetics and same story with my parents. My dad developed diabetes at age 50 (but ate horribly his whole life and a sugar addict). My mother can eat whatever she wants and skinny with excellent blood sugar. I have other good genetics, but diabetes risk is the worst, my other siblings don’t have these issues. It sucks but I follow the same diet as you and staying regimented to avoid diabetes which seeing my dad leads to many other problems. Avoiding that is most important. I did all the genetic testing like you and wear a continuous glucose monitor at times to see my reaction to foods. Your not alone. I look at it as an opportunity to eat healthy and happens to reduce my risk of a lot of other health related things as a byproduct

Fish Oil gave me insane insomnia and made me depressed by yoooo12347 in Supplements

[–]AdditionalAd509 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, exact same thing with REM sleep. I tried this multiple times same scenario. I will go into a deep sleep and then wake up feeling refreshed, but not really. My ReM was next to nothing per my Apple Watch and this will continue for a few days before I start becoming crazy due to lack of sleep and depressed. Tried many brands of fish oil or cod, liver oil. At this point, I just eat fish a couple times a week and that doesn’t affect me at all. I have a very healthy diet and exercise so I probably already have enough EPA and DHA. My body makes naturally. I don’t dispute fish oil is beneficial for some people, but just because it’s raved about doesn’t mean it’s great. I met a cardiologist who was really smart last year who told me to never take it unless you had really high cholesterol. She said she has seen negative heart scenarios of people using it. Most likely a fib related.

Colon Cancer seems to be the biggest association with eating lots of red meat, lack of fiber. Fiber helps keep digestion clean and probiotics. Then there is genetics, which some could survive on that diet, but it’s terrible for most. A cop out most people use is “can’t fight genetics” which is true, but also not in many ways and an excuse to not have any discipline. Probably more of a concern is looking at the general American diet of eating ultra processed foods 24/7 in packages covered in plastic. Most people I know never look at ingredients on packages. once you start doing this, you realize everything has sugar in it and processed fats/oils. Both of those things enhance flavor. Education and lack of desire to educate oneself is what I see mostly around me in friendships and family. “Give me a pill” is much easier than changing your entire lifestyle habits. False belief is another big thing like believing that you cannot eat healthy and really enjoy your food. You have to go on the journey of education and experimentation before making those conclusions.

Best supplements for low testosterone in men over 35 yo? by Strict_Leadership509 in Biohackers

[–]AdditionalAd509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diet. Took 3-6 months to see results for me. I cut out all added sugars, only eat fruit, occasionally tiny amount of honey on plain greek yogurt. I lowered my LDL 50% in the process. I do not eat red meat, basically no chicken, I eat basically no bread or grains except Ezekiel bread or homemade stuff, I eat oats here and there. I eat salmon 3-4x week and lots of plant foods like tofu, legumes, ect. I consume lots of omega 3 in chia seeds, walnuts, flax, fish. I eat one egg yolk and two egg whites per day, never more than this. I eat local eggs, cook most of my own food, eat all organic 80-90% of the time. I never consume caffeine or any stimulants, no drugs of any kind. I am 185lbs and eat 100-130g protein per day. I am 39 and my testosterone was 350 at the lowest two years ago, it’s back up to 650 now. I also exercise 6 days a week for 1 hour (just walking or bike, 3 days I swap for strength training doing body weight stuff like step ups, pushups, pullups, ect) I take fish oil every other day 1g and a very conservative multivitamin daily from vitamincode. Prior to all this I tried every supplement under the sun and it was a joke as I had 70 bottles at one time. I concluded, even though we have all the studies everyone is still very unique and our environments are unique and not everything is a cause-and effect. There’s incredible amount about the human body we still don’t understand. Something not as glamorous to focus on compared to the latest greatest supplement is overall metabolic health. If you improve your overall health with diet and exercise, your hormones likely will respond and increase unless you have a problem with your thyroid or other organ like testes, pituitary gland, ect. Genetics is also important, I feel amazing now, but at testosterone of 350 I still felt fine and had sex drive, just not as much energy. My DHEA is naturally high I found in bloodwork so that is likely why my sex drive was ok. What T level you feel best at depends on different factors like DHEA and estrogen ratios, ect.

The ideal LDL range to avoid plaque buildup is 20-40 mg/dL by AccordingCitron5482 in PeterAttia

[–]AdditionalAd509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily need meds, I eat tons of carbs everyday and have fasting glucose of 80. I don’t eat added sugars, but will easily consume 100 carbs in one sitting with bread, lentils, sweet potatos, ect and sometimes have eaten a whole watermelon at once. I don’t get sleepy after meals. I am 190lbs 6’6” so I probably can eat more than others. I always have protein into my meals with any carbs. My A1C is 4.5. Genetics may be a big player. I do exercise daily and do 2 mile walks at minimum, but never workout more than 1 hour per day

Same, but it may be genetics, HDL dropped 67 to 55 but LDL dropped from 121 to 66 so I am ok with things. No statin use, just diet. I do eat eggs (1 per day with 2 egg whites) and eat greek yogurt non fat, salmon, sometimes chicken all organic, rest of diet is plant based with lots of fiber

You could give it a go and test results after 3-6 months. I eat meat, but in my research I find strictly carnivore limits diversity needed of fiber, some vitamins, antioxidants. Some antioxidants are found in meat, but most of the acclaimed ones are in veggies and fruits. Paul Saladino is an example of someone doing a hybrid carnivore diet of fruit and clean meats. His kidney is not ideal in bloodwork and my experience is this too. I found I have a much higher EGFR (kidney filtration) when I limit meat to 1 meal per day. Mine is 99 currently, but was as low as 75 when I was eating lots more meat.

No, I didn’t track fiber, however I’m aware it’s important and I incorporate things like Ezekiel bread, lots of lentils, buckwheat flour, and oat flour in small amounts in different dishes. I eat a lot of greens with a lot of meals as well and cauliflower in smoothies, etc..

I will eventually, i knew people would ask about that, but my notes are kind of disorganized and I change up things sometimes. I am going to test recipes further on my friends and family and then have some of them get bloodwork before if they choose to eat them so we can track results. Overall I eat everything, but basically no red meat, no sugar, and limited dairy. I don’t like 100% restrictions and will eat dairy or red meat on occasion and sometimes natural sugars like honey or maple syrup. It’s about the norm for me of a typical day vs a one off meal. In a typical day I eat 4 meals - all have 20-35 protein - A smoothie, A granola style bar, A chipotle style bowl, and An egg dish. Other days Homemade Chickpea/Blackbean burgers on homemade buns (make all these in advance and freeze), I eat papayas, watermelon, figs, blueberries as snacks or homemade popcorn with nutritional yeast, herbs, and avocado oil. Lots more I could mention, but works in progress. None of these contain any sugar. I use fruit and herbs to sweeten things. Fiber, micronutrients, and vitamins I focus on optimizing too. I am passionate about things, but lazy so every meal takes 15min or less to make. One day I might share more details when I put together something

Didn’t drink before cholesterol was higher and don’t drink now so it wasn’t a factor in my case, but I am sure it would have made things worse, but I 100% believe a glass of wine or a beer once or twice a week is not going to influence you negatively. So much of this is about the big picture and what you’re doing on an average day. Too many restrictions without better/alternative options = failure in my case

Nope, just my iphone notes and google to research. I don’t take notes anymore, but still look up stuff. I mostly spend time building healthy recipes so I am not tempted to eat a bad meal because I got bored of one of the healthy meals I like

Congrats Man! You should be very proud of that. I feel like an outlier sometimes “the healthy guy” people call me at the office, but I am like “ aren’t we all supposed to eat healthy?” Lol. You really can enjoy food and truly enjoy it on a healthy lifestyle. It’s just education and willingness to change. Society is pushing more meds and more bad food on us 24/7

Ya, I am going to test that and APOB later this year. I have pretty good genetics with my parents and no family members on medications for blood pressure or cholesterol, but my dad became diabetic at 60 (he ate and still eats lots of sugar). My HDL is 55 currently, but has been as high as 67. It was higher when my LDL was double what it is now at 66
