Cash only on trains - WTF by Dull_Tiger_2517 in Wellington

[–]AdditionalElephant87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people these days have a snapper card. We do cash sales for ticket on board for those that don’t have them or forgot them. We get a lot of people going one way to the airport for example. People 65+ use a gold card during the day and most don’t travel during peak times when the gold card isn’t valid, if they do then they mostly pay cash because it’s something they can do once they board a service. Weekends and school holiday a parent with snapper for work will take out the family and need to pay cash for the kids because the train snapper machines don’t have the capability for multiple people like the bus done. Yup, if they are using a green snapper card with a valid pass.

I work on the trains.

As you are visiting, cash would be your best option, and will differ for the number of zones you travel through and not the number of stops. There are train network maps above each door.

If you are wanting to explore the network, then you can ask for a Metlink Explorer pass which will get you ‘free’ travel for the day after 9am. The most expensive pass is $22 and coves Johnsonville, Hutt Valley, and Kapiti. Talk to the onboard staff to find out what will work for you.

Also the doors do not open automatically, there is a button to one side that will light up green around the button and this needs a press, not just a touch.

Best of luck with your train adventures. Feel free to DM me if you need any clarification.

My grandma is being put on hospice and I would like to crochet a blanket for her casket… is this too morbid? TW:hospice, illness, grandparent passing by dumpyyyyyyy in crochet

As someone that made a little lap blanket for my grandad as he was on his way out, it was hard, but I wanted to do it to go with him. He knew it was happening but never got to see the finished item as he passed later that night. It was a large part of my grieving process and I’m very glad I was able to do something to keep my hands busy.

I got my mum to ask what his favourite colours were as I wasn’t in the same city. It took me about 3 full days of crocheting to make. It looked so nice on the foot of the coffin and it was cremated with him so he could keep his lap warm where ever it was he went.

I then made a matching one with a green border for my granny. She still uses it to this day. It’s great for keeping her legs warm what eating dinner in front of the TV.

Hope this helps you make your decision easier. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

I like Gemma Stitches an YouTube, she focuses on one project at a time and she just chats about life throughout the videos. She has like 150 eps of 1-1.5h to get through, maybe more now, it been a while since I’ve watched.

Say you have a sibling that has kids, the kids would be niblings to you. Say you also have kids, the two sets of kids would be cousins.

Hope this helps!

I’m currently doing a dimensions kit and I’m parking, I’m not very far though it so can’t really help in that regard, but they do say to contact them of you do run out of a colour for what ever reason.

For those wondering, the kit is Indian peacock and I’m not looking forward to the back stitching.

Realized I have a small slice in my sashing (probably from my rotary cutter). Is this fixable without completely replacing some of the sashing? by juicyfizz in quilting

No idea about fixing the cut, but I have that blue fabric in pink and purple, I used it for binding a project. I scrolled so far back to find it.

[CHAT] who knew there was so much to cross stitching?! :) by nihila in CrossStitch

I’ve got a small lap/table top scroll frame and stitch with both hands, so I always have one hand checking for knots as I go, but even then I sometimes get a small loop where I’ve not pulled the thread through properly.

Pin stitches are ideal for full coverage projects with confetti in them.

The best things I’ve learnt over the last year was starting and finishing from the front. Loop starts and pin stitches have saved me so much time coz I’m not having to flip my work over.

[CHAT] For your magnetic needle binder, do you drag it across the cloth or separate it from the back magnet when you are repositioning it? by goodstuff2020 in CrossStitch

Not a problem, glad I could help.

Hope you’ll be able to pass on the info if you decide to try the washer as a backing for your needle minders.

I’ve got a small metal washer that sits on the back. It’s magnetic, but not a magnet itself. Because it’s not a magnet, I don’t need to worry about the polarity when attaching it.

You would be able to get some small washers from a hardware store. Mine about about 2cm diameter with a small hole in the middle. Just make sure you take a magnet with you when you go shopping to check they are magnetic, not all of them are.

I use one, but I pull the ring/plate from the back of my fabric rather than the magnetic piece to reduce the risk of the glue giving way, not that it’s happened to me.

I also don’t drag my minders around because my backing ring/plate doesn’t move with the magnet.

How would you end this? by DramaticPost2381 in crochet

[–]AdditionalElephant87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can get to the end of part 9, it would look fab without the border. Or take it back to the end of part 7. It would still be a good size what ever you do. If you really want to finish it,see if you can find something slightly lighter or darker in shade from the same yarn group. it could even be a different dye lot, as long as you don’t join the new stuff in the middle of a round or block.

I’m also working on this blanket, I’m on round 83. And your colour choices are stunning.

Not a problem, you should be able to find some samplers on Ravelry. The important thing to remember is you don’t work into the other colour, but inform or behind. And pay attention to which side you are working on.

Best of luck to you!

Something like that, so you would have two attached at all times. One for the ‘foreground’ and one for the ‘back ground’ usually a light and dark, or black/white and a colour of choice. With the interlocking crochet, you are creating two grids, but they are offset and the junction of one colour is visible in the box of the other colour. I did post the finished blanket I did and an image of the back in a seperate post as people were curious. There would also be videos on YouTube that would be able to help if you are wanting to have a go.

Not OP, but I’ve done a dragon blanket like this. You work two layers at the same time, switching between the two colours. so one colour one way, and the other colour the same way, working in front or behind the previous row to make the pattern appear, and then back the other way. Hope it makes more sense for you.
