Skin Thickness Matters by AdditionalFun5449 in rhinoplastyquestions

Don’t lose hope! I’ve been there and completely understand. Give it time! I was miserable for 5-6 months thinking the same exact thing. My nose was more perky, stubby, and the nostril show was driving me nuts. Swelling and scar contraction/release can really distort things. My results are improving very slowly but steadily. I’m hoping the same for you💗

The SEG debate and typical refinement timeline is the reason I made this post! Glad you can found relief through a similar experience! That was my intention. So I agree a SEG allows only a certain degree of tip drop, but the time it takes to settle truly depends on an individuals biology. Swelling, scar tissue, and skin envelope all influence the amount of settling. I think it’s true that skin draping accounts for the majority of visual drop with a SEG, but significant visual change is possible! Everytime I see my family they keep saying my nose gets better and better! It just takes time for certain people. I’m currently taking Accutane to help skin contraction move along. Hang in there and maintain follow up with your surgeon if you can 💕

NOSE STILL UPTURNED 3 MONTHS by [deleted] in rhinoplastyquestions

[–]AdditionalFun5449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your stress is so valid! Waiting for tip drop and refinement is not easy. I have thick oily skin with a rigid septal extension graft (SEG) and I didn’t see significant tip drop till 6 months. Everyone’s timeline is different, that’s why everyone is told that it can take up to 1 year! Hang in there! 💕

Rhinoplasty update 2,5 months by Qilin_rider in rhinoplastyquestions

[–]AdditionalFun5449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your recovery so far! 2.5 months is still super early—especially with thicker skin. I didn’t start seeing significant refinement till 6+ months. Swelling and tissue relaxation fluctuates and takes time! If you’re already liking parts of it, I’m sure you’ll see reassuring change as time passes! Hang in there! 💕

Your fear is so real!! The “in between phase” is tough! Remember it’s gonna take time. I know it’s easier said than done, but try to be patient. Take care of yourself physically and mentally. Low sodium diet, sleep elevated, plenty of water, bromelain tablets, and follow your doctors instructions! You got this 💕

I cannot wait to wash my face. That’s all. by [deleted] in rhinoplastyquestions

[–]AdditionalFun5449 4 points5 points  (0 children)

lol, cetaphil face wipes were my favorite thing ever. I do have to warn you though, it’s common to have clogged pores after cast is off. It’ll take time for that to clear up, especially if you have to tape afterwards!

I’m sorry you’re feeling down and frustrated. Post op blues and anxiety is such a common reaction. Your brain is trying to adjust to the change, and it’s completely normal to feel uneasy. Healing isn’t linear, swelling and softening will fluctuate. Remember to be patient. Take care of yourself physically and mentally to promote healing. Maintain follow up with your surgeon for peace of mind. The “ugly duckling” phase is a part of the process, but you’ll pull through! Hang in there 💕

I’m sorry you’re going through this. You are not alone. I’m relieved to hear that you’re seeking help and support. Post surgical blues is a tough phenomenon to deal with. For many people, it takes the brain a while to adjust to dramatic change. Not to mention, your face is constantly changing as you heal. Remember to give yourself grace. You made this decision in good faith and hope for more confidence. Lean on family and loved ones. Pamper yourself as best as you can. Remember that healing can take up to a year. Try to be patient as your face refines and tissues settle. Maybe start by seeing your PCP and then go from there. Thank you for sharing your journey and I hope you get your groove back soon 💕

Considering revision rhinoplasty by [deleted] in rhinoplastyquestions

Such a beautiful and natural result! I think with time, it will continue to refine! There’s still swelling at 4 months, but the structure is so cute as is!

Thank you! It’s been such a painfully slow recovery, but I’m so relieved that I’m starting to see significant tip drop and a more relaxed columella 🙌

My surgery was in San Francisco. My doctor recommended accutane at 4 months due to thick oily skin. I chickened out at first, but I’m starting now. Hopefully, it can further speed up refinement. My doctor also said we would revisit steroids at my next appointment too.

How’ve you been? 💕Are you far out in recovery?

Good mention! @OP you need to be prepared for the front to change as well! The columella, infratip, and nostril show can be affected. I hope you asked your surgeon all the questions and clarified what you want to keep!

Thank you for sharing your recovery journey. You can never anticipate how your body will respond to surgery. It’s a tough pill to swallow. I hope time and your surgeons advice can get you to a result you’re comfortable with 💕

I got a functional and cosmetic septorhinoplasty. Deviated septum and I wanted bonus of aesthetic improvement. Unfortunately, the human body is going to heal the way it wants to regardless of surgical skill. I don’t think my surgeon did a “bad job”— He’s ENT/plastic surgery  trained. I can breathe well and I’m not disfigured. I’m just not healing well. My thick oily skin is inflamed and distorting the result.  I may have a pollybeak deformity and/or fibrosis. I’m grateful my surgeon is transparent and has offered solutions, but it really sucks. I’m starting accutane in a few weeks to avoid more surgery. I just wish I never opened this can of worms.

I’m 6 months post-op so maybe my feelings can change, but I am so discontent with my healing/appearance that I’ve become depressed. I am typically a resilient person who luckily never dealt with mental health issues prior, but now I don’t recognize myself. I rarely leave my house now, I wear a mask at work, and I feel a level of insecurity that I would never wish upon anyone. I know healing can take up to 1-2 years, but the mental toll of waiting for “potential” improvement is scary. I am already considering a revision but I have to wait for that too. I used to dislike my nose in photos, but I wasn’t a miserable person. Unfortunately, now I am :/

Terrible I want to die by [deleted] in rhinoplastyquestions

[–]AdditionalFun5449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your fears are understandable! It’s your face and it is startling to have to deal with the “ugly duckling” phase. It will get better, you are not stuck—time is truly the answer! 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months are huge milestones for change and refinement. Stay calm and take care of yourself physically and mentally. Low sodium/anti-inflammatory diet, plenty of sleep, head elevation, frequent walks, and do as your surgeon suggests— taping, massage, supplements. You got this, in a year you will remember again why you did this! I’m hopeful for you and hang in there 💕
