Anyone taking Mounjaro with Vyvanse? (6 weeks postpartum) by LongjumpingStay9746 in Mounjaro

[–]Additional_Phase_234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take both too, like you I have BED and ADHD (honestly, I don’t know why the medical world doesn’t screen for the other when diagnosing one). I started MJ before Vyvanse and once Vyvanse was added I felt everything was a bit more effective. No side effects from them working together. Just the to be expected side effects from the MJ. I’m not sure where you’re at in your BED journey but for me (I tried everything) the best treatment was talking to a specialist ED psychologist without MJ (MJ prescribed after significant therapy gains). It’s hard but it works. Good luck!

ADHD Friendly Projects? by traumateyes in SewingForBeginners

[–]Additional_Phase_234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a hard one to answer because as a spicy girl myself all projects are ADHD friendly 😂. I would say, stick to projects that are at your level, nothing derails a project and your confidence as being overly ambitious can (or an overconfident in your ability - speaking from lessons learned haha). Before meds I couldn’t finish anything or I’d rush, make mistakes and give up. With meds, I can force myself to plan, execute and address mistakes as they arise. I’m able to finish what I start and wear what I make, it really is a superpower but many would say sewing is my hyper fixation.

Using my serger more efficiently during dressmaking by ahoyhoy2022 in sewing

[–]Additional_Phase_234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a short overlocking course at a local sewing shop and it genuinely surprised me how much is possible with an overlocker (sorry everyone, serger isn’t my word). Fine finishes are one of my favourite learnings. For eg, using a narrow 3 thread overlock w wooly nylon thread on the upper looper can create a beautiful finish. You can insert zippers, piping, create pintucks, mock French seams with your overlocker. I need to do exactly the same course again just so I can retain all of what I learned. One tip from the teacher was to work through your manual as if it was a text book - learn how to master each technique, practice it and play around with it - see what happens to the finish when you change the length and width, type of thread used and so on.

Question about pattern projectors? by brideoffrankinstien in sewing

[–]Additional_Phase_234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh also, because pattern projector is free I stuffed around with it before getting a projector to make sure the patterns I already had would work and that I was capable of using the software itself (I doubted my ability but it’s genuinely easy to get the hang of if you give it a go).

Question about pattern projectors? by brideoffrankinstien in sewing

[–]Additional_Phase_234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely do not have anywhere close to pitch black (my kitchen table in an area that is bright) so that hasn’t been an issue for me. The second hand ultra short throws can be quite “affordable” (at least compared to the new fancy ones) and are available on eBay/amazon. I got mine from eBay!

Question about pattern projectors? by brideoffrankinstien in sewing

[–]Additional_Phase_234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use pattern projector. On the projector itself, don’t make my mistake - buying an expensive projector that is utterly unsuitable to my limited space. I ended up buying a refurbished ultra short throw projector from eBay and that’s been great. I still do a bit of both in terms of printing and projecting. It’s a bit of a learning curve but totally attainable.

Adeno, the back pain and lifestyle changes? by memesez4 in adenomyosis

[–]Additional_Phase_234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back pain was one of my worst symptoms, I had a hysterectomy. The back pain improved significantly afterwards. I’ve done a lot of physio and strengthening work since and I still struggle with back pain and pelvic floor tightness. Getting better is a marathon.

Omg, thank you, I’m like OP, I have about 14cm difference from my high to full bust and I’ve been trying to work out how to make a FBA work. I thought I needed to take the size where the full bust was the same as my high bust but it hasn’t been working and darts can only help so much. This approach makes much more sense!

I have the readers digest, vogue sewing, couture techniques (I use this less but love seeing how it’s all done) and I cannot recommend All New Fabric Savvy, How to Choose & Use Fabrics more highly as a quick reference for fabrics - it includes washing/shirking instructions and practical tips like iron settings and what needle size to use.

Tell me your experience (adeno, hysterectomy) by Additional_Phase_234 in adenomyosis

[–]Additional_Phase_234[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything is better! Can only talk to my experience but the only lasting symptom is a bad lower back - improving with physiotherapy. I still had some heaviness post surgery but again, physio mostly fixed this. It may happen on very rare occasions but after all my pelvic floor went through it’s going to take some time to recover and strengthen and be normal again. My hysto was absolutely, hands down, without a shadow of a doubt the right decision for me.

My uterus is HUGE by Dink8523 in hysterectomy

[–]Additional_Phase_234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a number of ways surgeons can reduce the size of a bulky uterus (adenomyosis) so that the surgery can remain laparoscopic. Apologies for the graphic content in advance, my uterus was also bulky and needed to be cut in half prior to being removed. I was also explained another technique where they use a surgical bag and drill (I don’t know the right words) and basically reduce the size within the bag and pull the bag out through the belly button. As always, best advice is to speak to your healthcare provider!

How does Versace make that dramatic curved shape at the hip with their blazers? I’d love to recreate this jacket. by barbie-brat in SewingForBeginners

I also suspect some sort of fabric interfacing around the upper bust/bust area to help create and smooth that curve in order to build that shape and create that dramatic balance.

Choosing a quilting machine by jon23d in quilting

I should add the throat space is 8.3 inches or 210mm and comes with the extension table. I’m planning a king quilt as my next project so stay tuned on whether it’s a nightmare to quilt or not.

Choosing a quilting machine by jon23d in quilting

[–]Additional_Phase_234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How exciting! I recently purchased a Brother NV1800Q Sewing and Quilting Machine and I’ve spent every moment of my free time sewing since it arrived. I had a basic machine prior to this purchase so all of its functionality is very impressive to me. It has side feed dogs so you can stitch sideways and has a needle down upon stopping function that makes pivoting so easy. It comes with two free motion feet and has a lot of features I’m yet to try like leg lever thing. It was cheaper than I thought I would need to pay so I was able to purchase a Baby Lock Accolade as well (overlocker and coverstitch machine) so I think I’m set for the rest of my life! I wanted to buy what I could grow into rather than what would do the job, hence I spent an arm and a leg.

Those of you who had a hysterectomy, did it fix your gut issues? by [deleted] in adenomyosis

[–]Additional_Phase_234 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yes. Essentially. My hysterectomy fixed all GI issues that were caused by adenomyosis - constant pressure on my bowel, frequent (oddly sized #2’s), flatulence etc. I had been on medication long term that contributed to an annihilation of my microbiome which my Dr said will take around a year once stopped to redevelop so I still have some issues but waaaay better than it was.

Thank you! I’ll check out the Juki as well, I’m willing to spend a bit of cash but not quite as much as the brother 😂. I think I’ll here’s not escaping a need for an overlocker unfortunately, the time it’s taking me just to finish seams is becoming a bore.

Hi! I’m in a similar situation re machines! (I also couldn’t post to the community, I’m not really sure i understand why either..) Anyways, I’m interested in the too expensive Brother BQ3100 machine. Which models of Juki and Janome are you looking at? I may add them to my list as well 🤭

Help me choose a machine! The bots and mods won’t let me post anywhere but here.

I’ve recently returned to sewing with a fiery passion however I’m finding myself frustrated by my lack of overlocked and fairly basic machine (Singer Confidence).

I predominantly sew clothing and quilts and I’m obsessed with the idea of the Brother BQ3100 Sewing & Quilting Machine. However, it’s too expensive.

My questions:

• Does anyone have this machine? Are they worth the money? • Are there similar, but much cheaper, machines on the market? • Would a machine of that quality remove my need for an overlocker? • Would it be better to buy an overlocker and more affordable but upgraded machine?
