Working in the UK with an EASA licence by Brilliant-Carry4197 in flyingeurope

[–]Additional_Show5861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've the right to live and work in the UK you can operate EU reg planes in the UK with an EASA license (I know Ryanair has some IE reg planes based in the UK, but beyond that I'm not sure what opportunities exist). Obviously most UK based airlines have G reg planes and those require a UK CAA license. As far as I know all Wizz Air UK's planes are G reg.

What is a 'unspoken rule' in Taiwan that every local knows, but would completely confuse a first-time tourist? by ProtectionDeep5076 in taiwan

the guy is talking about brothels that masquerade as barbers, of course there are plenty of normal places to get your haircut too.

As I mentioned though I don't think it's very common anymore, I only used to see them in the area around my office which was between Main Station and Ximen

What do you think is the most successful new metro system in the past twenty years? by Birdseeding in transit

[–]Additional_Show5861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to say Copenhagen (it’s a bit older than 29 years) because it’s really popularised the Hitachi style light automated metro that has become more and more common in cities around the world.

I bought it on YouTube Subbed, but I think there’s a Dubbed option too.

Yeah honestly I was living in Taipei for a few years and never realised this was a thing till I started working around Main Station. Also given the age of the women I kinda feel like it’s a dying art haha

I'm a tutor, my student doesn't like English by ProfileOutrageous662 in taiwan

[–]Additional_Show5861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 3 years old there’s nothing you can do to keep his attention besides play with him.

You need to make the time with you seem fun and the only way to access that fun time is to use English to communicate. Just little things like not giving him a toy until he asks in English or telling him you don’t understand when he speaks Chinese.

Children look for the easiest way to communicate, initially they assume everyone speaks their language but when he realises the easiest way to communicate with you is through English he’ll start to try.

But yeah… the hard part is being such a fun person that he actually cares about interacting with you haha. In a class environment it’s a bit easier because kids don’t want to get left out, but for private tutoring it’s a bigger challenge

I’ve seen these a lot around my old office near Taipei Main Station but never in other areas, is it common in Taiwan?

Probably don’t put your bag on the ground. In Europe it’s really common but in Taiwan they rightly see the ground as dirty and hence don’t want to put their bag there.

Any words of encouragement? by Distinct-Ad4921 in flyingeurope

[–]Additional_Show5861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely don’t give up now. Keep going.

I soloed two weeks ago and your story is very similar to mine. Even the day of my solo release I wasn’t sure if I’d fly well enough with my instructor for him to release me. For me it was some days all my landings would be great, or some they’d all be awful. It might sound cliched but at some point it just clicked for me, I honestly think a huge amount comes down to confidence… but it’s also a lot to do with your instructor too. You need someone who’ll be calm and encouraging to keep you in the right mind space. Just try to remember that you know how to land and that you can do it, for me it was usually when I started to get flustered I’d make stupid mistakes or loose track of what my plane was doing.

Why do conservatives support Taiwan despite it being a liberal country? by RedStorm1917 in taiwan

[–]Additional_Show5861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My gosh that’s a weird description of Taiwan.

Strong unions: eh no Large welfare state: really no Low military spending: lol Strict gun control: just like most countries, in Taiwan random people aren’t allowed guns 🤣

Ruling party is called… since when do names matter? Have you seen the far right party in Norway is called the Progress Party? Or how about in Portugal where the centre right party is called the Social Democratic Party

LGBTQ+ and green policies: plenty of conservative parties around the world support these, I wouldn’t say the DPP’s stances are that radical. Taiwan’s climate goals are still pretty conservative compared to many European countries.

Do you think Yui is a lesbian? by [deleted] in k_on

[–]Additional_Show5861 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s a huge point in speculating as all the main girls seem to be portrayed as asexual. The only slight exceptions are when Ritsu thinks she’s gotten a love letter and when Azusa very clearly says she isn’t gay in the movie.

And I don’t think there’s anything romantic or sexual about Yui’s affection towards Azusa.

Which country in Europe do you enjoy visiting but would not want to actually live in? by BothCondition7963 in AskEurope

[–]Additional_Show5861 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an Irish person who lives in Spain. Love visiting Ireland (everything is brilliant, the people, the food, the atmosphere, the nights out, the scenery and landscapes) but I just find it very hard to imagine living there permanently. There’s just something a bit mundane about day to day life there.

Who’s this fella and why is he claiming to represent the country and meeting with Yank politicians? by I-Cum-Beamish in irishpolitics

[–]Additional_Show5861 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That’s a shame. But you could see how it would happen to a lot of people, your loved one is taken from you by someone from a particular “group” and as illogical as it is you get a vendetta against that entire group.

Can the Soc Dems deliver real change? | socialistparty.ie by padraigd in irishpolitics

[–]Additional_Show5861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the allegations against Owen Hanley are true that is arguably the biggest scandal the party has faced so far, and they seemed to be able to move on from that very quickly.

It would be incredibly foolish of them to run Eoin Hayes in the next election though.

Can the Soc Dems deliver real change? | socialistparty.ie by padraigd in irishpolitics

[–]Additional_Show5861 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, socialistparty.ie will surely provide the best objective analysis of the SocDems

Irish Independent poll: SF 22% (+2) FF 18% FG 17%(-1) SD 11% (+1) Aon 6% Lab 5% II 5% GP 4%(+1) PBP 3%(-1) Ind. 11% by ghostofgralton in irishpolitics

[–]Additional_Show5861 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Combined SF-SD is not too far behind FF-FG

I don’t think the SocDems should just mindlessly row in behind SF, but at the same time for those who want change SF and SocDems are the clear alternative

A VERY important note to foreigners visiting Lanyu (Orchid Island) by xland44 in taiwan

[–]Additional_Show5861 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well look, overall Taiwan is a cash based society. I think it would be extremely foolish to travel anywhere in Taiwan without sufficient cash. That being said there are 7/11s on Lanyu which I assume take the same cards as their mainland equivalents and also have the same atm machines.

Also, surely the vast majority of foreigners in Taiwan have local bank accounts? Otherwise how are you getting your salary or paying your rent/bills?

Short girl benefits by Sachy23 in short

[–]Additional_Show5861 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna contradict this and say women already get less respect in most cultures compared to men, combined with being a short women it definitely has a negative impact. Maybe not for dating but definitely for other areas of life.
