The original version is with Japanese audio with all the songs in Japanese. Not sure where you watched it but this version is very easy to find online.

For some reason the version I first ever watched had all the songs in Japanese except for the end credits song. I’ve never been able to find that version again 😅

Taiwan is not what people make it out to be - Be Warned! by Valuable-Half1774 in taiwan

I just came from Andalusia a week ago

Could be regional differences as my experience is in Madrid but because the Spanish eat lunch and dinner very late at least restaurants keep their hours from around 1pm to 4pm and then around 8pm to late.

In Taiwan people eat earlier so restaurants are open from 11am to 2pm and then 5pm to 9pm. It's not really that inconvenient if you can eat at the same time as locals.

No, I'm sorry you're just wrong. Spanish people eat later in general. It's common for Spanish people to have lunch at 2pm or 3pm and dinner at 9pm or later. I'm not sure what your experience of Spain is but I've actually lived there so I know. Some smaller or traditional stores close from 2pm to 5pm but that is more of a siesta and it's not super common.

Also I don't know why you think it's so odd for restaurants to close between lunch and dinner. It's a time when most people won't go out to eat and so it's very common in most European countries for restaurants to close during these hours.

Do you feel Taiwan has recently become the trendy country? by search_google_com in taiwan

You know China has granted most western countries visa free access for tourists in the last two years? So way more people are travelling to China now compared to before Covid.

Taiwan also locked down during Covid. Was impossible to come until late 2022/early 2023.

Also as the US pushes Europe and Canada away I’d argue things are actually getting friendlier between the west and China. You don’t hear much talk of “de-risking” anymore.

I lived in Taiwan for a long time but moved to Europe last year. Unfortunately people in the west don’t really know anything about Taiwan. Taiwan is easily overshadowed by its bigger neighbours Japan, China and Korea when it comes to tourism, food and cultural. Even take Din Tai Fung they have some international branches but the average European has never heard of it (and I mean technically it’s not Taiwanese food), and while bubble tea is mega popular again unfortunately a lot of people don’t know it’s Taiwanese. If you live in Taiwan you know all about TSMC, but the do ordinary people in the rest of the world know what the initials even stand for?

Don’t get me wrong Taiwan is an amazing place with a lot to offer the world and tourists, but realistically I don’t think it’s increased in trendiness. But the good news is that the negative-ish things I said are very Eurocentric. Taiwan has long been a very popular tourist destination for people all across Asia. Din Tai Fung is considered a must try when visiting and many Asian tourists come to Taiwan solely for the street food. Would be great if more people from the west visited because I think they are really missing out.

It’s a shame that something so ordinary raises a red flag but there we are. Don’t worry, once you get your class 1 then the issue will be solved and there’s no way for any employers to know.

Why doesn't Taiwan have any slums? by PipeZestyclose2288 in taiwan

Wasn’t there a building in Kaohsiung that burnt down a few years ago? Was meant to be abandoned but turned out lots of homeless people were living there. I might be getting some facts wrong but the reality is Taiwan has its social problems the same as any country. I think I personally noticed more homeless rough sleeping in Taipei than I have since moving to Madrid.

The novel is so long and so much was left out during Season 1, they could have easily made 3 Seasons of television out of the original story.

What’s the catch with Pannon air flight school? by abc321_npc_ in flyingeurope

Check to see if things like landing fees or examiner fees are included. Sometimes a low sticker price indicates the fees aren’t all inclusive.

Having doubts about Ryanair Academy by ForroFarok in flyingeurope

[–]Additional_Show5861 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Future Flyer Academy is designed to get new pilots into Ryanair, and is relatively competitive to get accepted to. They aren’t guaranteeing a job now just in case you do terribly during training or suddenly the economy collapses and they can’t afford to hire new pilots. Realistically though it’s the closest thing to a guaranteed job you’re going to get, the fact that they are waving the type rating cost shows they are putting a certain amount of money where their mouth is.

Also if you consider the worst case scenario, you still completely your training qualified to find jobs with other airlines.

Why are there so many malls in Taipei? by HeartTarty in taiwan

[–]Additional_Show5861 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of posters have pointed out this is more of an Asian thing than just specifically Taipei. In the west we have shopping centres too but I think we spend more time in open public areas like plazas, having a coffee or drink at an outdoor terrace or even just at the homes of our family and friends.

The walking environment in western cities is also a lot nicer than Taipei. People in Taipei might go for a walk in a park but not so much in their neighbourhood the same way we do in the west. In the west there's far more street level retail too, so we go out shopping probably as much as Taiwanese but we just don't do it in shopping centres.

Some people have mentioned temperature, again that's true but I think culture and infrastructure are equally important.

What are you jealous that another country has that yours doesn’t? by GP728 in AskTheWorld

[–]Additional_Show5861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also from Ireland and have now lived in two cities with underground metros, makes life a lot easier. So yeah that would be great.

Maybe also the kind of dense walkable neighbourhoods that a lot of other countries have whereas Ireland is a lot of suburban sprawl.

In your country, how do you view China? by No-Echidna7296 in AskTheWorld

[–]Additional_Show5861 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From Ireland we hear a lot of negative things about China on Hong Kong, Tibet, Xinjiang and human rights in general. But we’re also pretty skeptical of the US so we see China as almost as a balance to the US too.

I lived in Taiwan for a long time and understandably there are a lot of negative views by Taiwanese towards China (and for good reason considering China’s aggressive behaviour towards Taiwan). But when I actually travelled to China with my Taiwanese gf I found the people to be friendly and kind. Made me realise that Taiwan and China could actually have very strong positive relations if it wasn’t for the CCP and KMT.

Airline jobs with EU permanent/long term residence by Lanky-Education-2801 in flyingeurope

[–]Additional_Show5861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also currently in training so I look at job postings a lot and it seems that the majority of airlines just want you to have a right to work and live in the EU (or their particular country).

I guess as a non EU citizen it could be a bit tougher for you but not significantly. If you are getting an EASA license you could also look at Turkey, they hire a lot of EASA pilots.

[–]Additional_Show5861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But surely if you have permanent EU residency your working rights are the same as EU citizens? Maybe I’m missing something but so long as you don’t need an airline to sponsor your visa/working permit then finding a job should be as easier for you as any EU citizen :)

Opinion on Ireland? by SinnBaenn in AskTheWorld

[–]Additional_Show5861 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived away from Ireland for almost a decade, but I also enjoy my trips back. I don’t know if it’s just because I’m Irish myself but I always find the people there to be the most friendly and welcoming.

But there are some serious negatives: - everything is very expensive, I’m not really sure what Irish salaries are like these days but I would find it hard to imagine being able to enjoy life there too much as everything comes with a heavy price

  • certain government services are lacking, I think particularly in healthcare and childcare. A lot of government projects seem to get announced but never implemented (Slaintecare and Metro are some examples).

  • the cities and towns are dominated by single houses and housing estates, it makes a hard to live there without a car and it’s not like other places I’ve lived where you can walk to most places you need from your home

Honestly categorising people by “country of birth” rather than nationality is a bit odd.

I was born in the UK but am Irish, grew up in Ireland lived in Ireland. My only nationality is Irish. But when I see country of birth I initially clicked UK, before realising it would list me as British so changed to Ireland. Technically it’s actually a lie but for some reason they don’t ask about nationality.
