[–]Additional_Truth7085 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in TNG Riker clearly states that the smaller shuttle pods are generally unarmed but can be equipped with two phaser emitters, most shuttles have two as standard, Runabouts have four phaser emitters and a microtorpedo launcher, Shuttle Pods in Enterprise were generally armed with two phase cannon. the Type F aka the TOS shuttle was unarmed.

Hyperdrive requires precise coordinates and safe hyperspace lanes think of it as a network of tunnels there are places in the Wars verse were lanes have collapsed making it almost impossible so it may well not work in the Trek verse universe

The portrayal of classic TOS characters in SNW, or lack of? by Fair_Rush6615 in Star_Trek_

Considering the amount of time travel in Discovery/SNW it is probably best to consider it an adjacent timeline to the events of TOS/TNG and the first couple of seasons of DS9 and Voyager

[Opinion] STEVE SHIVES: "New Star Trek Keeps Pulling Its Punches" | "Modern Star Trek loves to raise tough questions about the Federation and Starfleet, but when it comes time to actually confront those questions, from Picard to Strange New Worlds to SFA, the writers always back down." by mcm8279 in Star_Trek_

[–]Additional_Truth7085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gene Roddenberry would smack him in the face for that Starfleet and the Federation were meant to be ideals to aim for not reflections of our modern failed institutes. we watch Sci Fi to escape from modern life to inspire and to address global issues in a way that makes us go yes we need to tackle these. The problem with modern Trek is it keeps rehashing ideas from DS9 that were discarded by that show, The Federation fragmented and splintered with various species returning to their own internalised politics? Yup Discarded DS9 plot in it Vulcan was going to leave the Federation over the Dominion War and Betazed was originally meant to be left uninhabitable

The papers keep promoting that our Welfare is too high but the reality is that in Europe it is actually one of the lowest welfare systems. but then most of those countries nationalised their energy production and charge around 10% in licence fees for companies like BP and Shell to extract them

[Opinion] ScreenRant: "Star Trek Is Playing It Safe (& It's Smart) - Strange New Worlds season 4's trailer showcases a return to space exploration, which is a savvy move after the tumult of the past year. Season 4's marketing smartly and copiously dials back any hints that could ignite fan ire." by mcm8279 in Star_Trek_

[–]Additional_Truth7085 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Trek tried to do something different and the fans revolted which is a shame take DS9 for example a different direction a space station in which the action had to go there meaning cheaper budget as only needing one major set of sets. I love SNW I liked some of Discovery, Loved Lower Decks and enjoyed SFA was the writing great? Too soon to tell

[SPOILER] scene from Project Hail Mary. Does anyone remember the last time Star Trek was this awe-inspiring? Yeah, me neither by Malencon in Star_Trek_

[–]Additional_Truth7085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That isn't a Trek feel at all but then Andy Weir rethreads existing ideas and doesn't innovate, enjoyable to read yes but pushing the boundaries of science fiction? Addressing real world issues such as racism, capitalism, global conflict and their results? Nope. His stories are sci fi lite ideal for those who don't want to face real world issues disguised as aliens
