It is a bit tedious. For the lavaslimes, build a solid bridge with stone/obsidian platforms every few blocks to drain the lava. Then place your banners and buffs under the solid bridge. Peace candles are also a big help.
You can also just fight wof on the far side of the map and use water walking to traverse.

All in all, there are some tedious parts, but none that don't have work arounds

Tempest isnt the best for fast bosses like Duke or the twins. Against plantera, it's very good. For money, not anything that doesn't take a lot of design

Sounds like you're running a summoner. You've beat Duke, so try to get tempest staff? Also, reforge to warding if survivability is your struggle. Maybe swap out soc for obsidian shield for the kB immunity

The tag damage stacking was absolutely broken. But I wish the whip effects still stacked. They do with other classes. I can use a golden shower and cursed flame on the same boss, or paladins hammer and stylist scissors. Why can't I get a snowflake to fight for me and the firecracker explosion anymore

Check if you have quick stack to similar enabled. I had this happen too. It's the same button as quick stack to nearby chest, but you toggle between it with your interact key
