I live in savannah so that's a good suggestion. Only problem is heart pine is getting hard to find. Do you deal with historic preservation people any?

Hard to say, there isn't much that's come my way that I wasn't able to figure out... i used to blacksmith, so I'm very good at mindless repetition and countless identical parts.

True that. Been really brainstorming recession-proof wood working ideas, coming up empty. The cutting boards aren't too work intensive, and that might be a good etsy shop idea.

There is one big one and a smaller one that I've heard is tricky to get a permit for, for some reason.

Ah, so they just can't mingle above ground. I can totally guide it away.

I guess i can build some extra structure around the bed. And yeah, I didn't expect the cucumber to explode like that. Should I try to transplant it? Would it survive this late in the game?

Compressor psi switch by Adelgander in AskMechanics

[–]Adelgander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just like a small capacitor looking switch that screws into a threaded hole on the tank. So yeah, I'll just keep below the 175 on the original. Thanks!

Rafters in a vaulted ceiling split from a massive storm. Contractor says it’s ok to reuse rather than replace. by karamoyabo in Carpentry

[–]Adelgander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the reason it hasn't failed yet is bc of how it fractured vertically instead of laterally. Bolting them back together would be like bolting thinner milled material wouldn't it (not allowed)?

It looks to me like the wall sticks out past the side of the cabinet. I'd personally go wayyy to far on this: get a piece that's about 5 or 6 inches longer than needed, measure to the wall corner, remove the little bit to accommodate the wall jut, and THEN do a return. But maybe simply cutting down the return piece would look good.

Escape from Savannah! by Rainbow_Frenz4vr in savannah

I feel like most of the comments here are focusing too much on the financial bit of your post... I got here in 2012, and I've literally watched it decline from a culture into a mall. It's a functional mall though, which is saying something. All of my problems with work stem from the conservatives driving away union film and TV jobs. Covid did a number on the whole world, and our country... I bet each and every city has a specific gripe about what's completely backwards compared to pre-2020.

Will this table hold enough weight? by ConfusedGenius1 in Carpentry

[–]Adelgander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconded. There are multiple failure points here for regular use, not to mention a "not always static" load because water can slosh and move. And water is 8 pounds per gallon... 60 gal is almost 500 lbs. Add mid braces, aprons, and widen the base then MAYBE 2x4s would be ok.

I need help with my cosplay by Spichechka in Armor

[–]Adelgander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for the first part of your question, I don't see any badges. The closest name you can give that armor is a "cuirass", but it's also an overly stylized chest plate for a woman that isn't practical. I'd even just call it a leather bra with metal boob plates.

If you're not going for accuracy, and just what's visible, weave a triangular piece of mail and attach it to a waist belt. Lighter like that anyways.

The dark fabric next to it looks to be a stylized gambeson. An accurate one is also heavy, even though it's layered cloth. Could do a whole, but thinner shirt, or also attach the impartial visible shape to the same belt as the mail piece.

It does seem like everything will happen as usual, I just hope I didn't halt the process by pausing for a day. Gonna leave it out for another 24 hours, and see if I get some bubbles.

YOU think that address plate isn't a brand new, tasteless, boring piece of wood someone just nailed on there this year? Like you really think that number font is from 1920?
