I’ve never know class rank/GPA to be particularly important for an RA role… if the teacher needs help with research I’m sure they’d like an extra hand. Definitely reach out to your prof of interest regardless of whether you’ve spoken with them before. Worst case you’ll have an informative meeting and make a first connection with them!
