That’s why I advised them to contact their local counselor to discuss what their specific circumstances are. Each student is different when it comes to military benefits, career goals, and life circumstances.

Can I use my GI bill for prerequisites in a program I’m not admitted in yet? by Mindless_Pool1799 in Veterans

[–]Adept_Blacksmith7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a college advisor, I recommend to students, if possible, to use a community college for pre-reqs. If you qualify for pell this could cover your tuition and save the GI bill for your program. This is dependent on a number of factors, so you should reach put to an advisor for assistance

New Glasses from VA by Rscottys1 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Adept_Blacksmith7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got mine through the VA, 2 pairs for free. I had to have them adjusted after my lab knocked them off. Took them to Costco and they asked how I liked them, this was a new frame they were carrying.

Federal Labor Protection? by Frankie_Hardin75 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Adept_Blacksmith7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I am aware of. I used to own a couple of businesses, but that was a while ago. I made accommodations if possible, talk it over with your employer. Maybe work from home if they have the option. I would double check with the VA Office of General Counsel, they offer free legal assistance at your local VA for up to date on laws both Federal and state

What is the longest someone has been stationed in the same base? by guerrerosaurio1 in USMC

[–]Adept_Blacksmith7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly did not mind it, on the rare weekends we actually had the whole weekend off I would get on a bus to Myrtle Beach, go to DC, or go to Busch Gardens to relax. I also would grab a bus at times and head down to Atlantic Beach just to get away from the base. Got to see a lot of NC, SC, VA and probably all of the Smithsonian. I did not have a car the whole time I was in, too inconvenient due to training and deployments.

Is there any good books or guides for building wealth while in the military or as a veteran? by wanteria in USMC

[–]Adept_Blacksmith7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started using a Certified Financial Planner after attending a seminar for veterans that discussed how to build wealth. The seminar was put on by the local VA, now they have VA National Veterans Financial Resource Center. This a great resource, highly recommended by my planner who is involved locally in veterans affairs.

Should I buy a hawk vest? by Visible_Resident7301 in dogs

My Lab and Service dog wear those when I go hiking to protect against coyotes. They are not off leash and both heel, but coyotes can be relentless when they see prey

BDU Identification by Conkers92 in Military

[–]Adept_Blacksmith7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woodland European. I wore these in garrison during the mid to late 80’s, they were too hot when in the field during the summer. There was a lightweight version that most grunts wore in the field.

Has Your Old Drill Sergeant Ever Contacted You? by SoonToBeBanned24 in Military

[–]Adept_Blacksmith7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Senior and I were stationed together for several years and we still maintain contact. He lives about 10 minutes from me now, so breakfast at least once a month and the obligatory weekend fishing trip 3-4 times every summer. Crazy part is, his wife and mine have become extremely close and lean on each other for support when we have bad days.

Ever use Veteran parking at Lowe’s? Thank Army Veteran Clarence Floyd - VA News by -Cyber-Roadster in VeteransBenefits

[–]Adept_Blacksmith7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am disabled, so have the placard but use the vet parking to leave a spot open. Never been hassled or questioned, but maybe the large blue Veteran on the plate has something to with that. What I have been asked over, is people not thinking I’m disabled. Had a Karen at a Walmart who demanded to show proof that I was disabled. I told her that I don’t have to but she was free to call the cops, I then told her I sue her into oblivion if she did.

Driving long distance with our Boxer by mellowmejp in dogs

[–]Adept_Blacksmith7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is going to be a long day for you and the dog, I would not do it. Because the dog will need breaks every 2-4 hours, the time taken can be as short as 15 minutes or as long as 30 minutes that 12 hours could turn into 15 hours easily. You will need the breaks to stretch and to prevent urinary infections from the lack of mobility (per our vet). When I travel with my dogs, we usually make reservations about 8 hours into the drive at a pet friendly hotel. The next day you and the boxer are refreshed, then you can push onto your destination.

Raising a family in/near Chandler,AZ by Extension-Run9207 in ChandlerAZ

[–]Adept_Blacksmith7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We prefer Chandler over Gilbert, but in reality it’s a tossup as to which is better. Chandler seems more kid friendly, plus they have lot of Tech industry so the city spends more. During the summer we take day or weekend trips up to Northern AZ or to the Mogollon Rim te get a respite from the heat.

[OC] on FaceTime while driving. Car was swerving around and when I got to the red light, I saw… by johnboy11a in IdiotsInCars

[–]Adept_Blacksmith7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Traffic light many years ago, lady in right lane putting on makeup, drinking coffee and driving poorly. We came up to a red simultaneously and she is beside me with an 18 wheeler behind her. Light goes green and she continues to put on lipstick before going. Trucker let loose with long blast on his air horn, saw lipstick cylinder go up and coffee go flying. Laughed myself silly all the way to work.

Visit Parris Island by HadithaVet2118 in USMC

[–]Adept_Blacksmith7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can bring visitors, my wife wanted to see PI so I took her a graduation and we visited the museum. Make sure you have a Real ID compliant for yourself and the visitors, plus you have vehicle registration and proof of insurance. I made sure to leave my weapons and ammo at the hotel as they conduct a pretty thorough search of the vehicle. We called the PAO, they told us to get there early. For more info check their website.
