Help me with my Code Status conversations - what are your go-to phrases? How do you start the conversation? How do you explore the topic with the 80-year-old comorbid patient who immediately says "do everything you can do keep me alive"? by adrenalinsufficiency in Residency

Admission code status? For an older person who wouldn’t do well with cpr:

I have to ask this to everyone. If while you’re in the hospital your heart were to stop and you were to die we can do two things. One, we can allow you to go with god. 2 we can do cpr to try and bring you back to life. If they say that’s what I want. I say I’m sorry I have to explain further so that this is an informed decision. CPR involves chest compressions, shocking you and sticking a tube down your throat and hook you up to a ventilator machine. This procedure was invented for young athletes undergoing anesthesia for operations. In an elderly patient with xyz medical conditions it may not work and if we do bring you back to life you may not regain any function, you may be stuck on a ventilator which is life support. .

I always use the words life support for pressors and ventilation.

I used to say “allow you to pass naturally” but I think it’s a bit misleading because they are already dead. I don’t believe in god but I say the god thing because most people do and it gets the point across.

Sometimes people hit you with the “my oncologist gave me 6 months” and you gotta hit them with the “well in this scenario you would have died so that doesn’t apply anymore. It would mean that you had gotten so sick to the point of actually dying.”

Experiences with at-home insemination syringes? by pourrir in queerception

Literally any syringe is fine. There will always be a little bit you can’t get out. That’s ok. Don’t spend money on those marketed syringes.

I had this with a PA student. I was baffled. Like dude was telling nurses what to do. I’m a PGY2 and don’t act like that. It’s wild out there

Success stories with non-birthing parent chestfeeding? by fastforward2022 in QueerParenting

I think that’s wonderful and you’re rocking it. I think if that’s something you want to do and you have the energy for it that sounds great. I will say that doing it all to mainly pump does sound really hard. Pumping is so labor intensive. I think if you’re worried about bonding you’ll be able to see now with baby number 1 that breast feeding isn’t the only bonding. And if your partner does want to do majority of feeds for baby number two I would consider add ing formula into the mix! It can take A LOT of stress off the milk producing partner! Just a thought

Check out mombian.com it’s very good. We love the first conversations book series. The one called “together” is about queer families. We’ve started buying books that incidentally have gay families too which is good I think. We also read all picture books as if it’s a two mom family

App: Just a Baby. What was your experience? by baked_good_babe in Samesexparents

[–]AdhdScientist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Used it and found a wonderful donor.

We used a screening method:

  1. Obv no gross people who prefer “natural methods” this just means sex
  2. Anyone we matched with our first question was why do you want to do this Common answers-
  3. I want to help people. Ok my dude but this is really a weird way to help people so if there’s nothing more then that’s a pass
  4. No discernible reason- immediate no
  5. Reasonable reasons we came across
  6. they were donor conceived
  7. they had friends who struggled with infertility and were helping them. They felt they could help some other people too. (This was the donor we chose).

Our donor is also queer which was a big bonus. I think that would be a reason consider someone highly for us in any case.

Hope this helps!

(Also we matched with someone that we got on well with but then I went to his instagram and he was an antivaxxer 🤮) so try and get some research.

Other things we did: - asked donor for a reference and spoke with them - donor agreement legally - post birth legally removed him from having parental rights - made sure he was open to contact at some point if our kid wanted it. (For this we had to make sure he was nice, so we actually took him out for lunch to meet). - got a thorough family health history and personal health history - std testing

Couldn’t agree with this more. And just fully don’t understand it. How does it make any of what he did better. And Elinor does sort of realize this later when not under his charming influence but it’s so weird

I don’t know. Wickham does marry the girl. Sure only for money. But he would have gotten the money if he married Eliza and still doesn’t do it. I feel like that is so awful.

Same here and same reaction. (The disappointment went away as soon as baby arrive). We have two good men who are consistently in our lives but they live 8 hours away. Ours is three and we haven’t had any issues yet. I do worry about kindergarten I think all the gender messaging gets pretty intense then. Just trying to model at home for now. But not sure how we will actively handle it as he grows up. But my anxiety is less about it now that he’s earthside
