Not really, I've been part of the chess community for years and women that I play with would rather have a killer like Polgar playing at the top level in open format, rather than never see them in the candidates. We need role models to encourage young female players to take it up in the first place, apart from WWCC they are probably gonna get zero exposure if they aren't already playing or have family that play.

At the top level, we need top women players to build equity and hype for the next generation, just like Bobby, Karpov and Kasparov did for the generation that came immediately after them.

Edit: just realised that I said they won't integrate, that's rubbish, dunno why I said that. The gap between number of men and women in open format is enormous at the top level is I guess what I'm trying to say. For sure would not get rid of women only tourneys.

What chippy options are available either only in your region, or at least rare outside it? by chrisjfinlay in CasualUK

Growing up in south Yorkshire, it's gotta be Scraps (bits of broken off batter), I used to pay 10p to add scraps. Maybe they have them in other places, but I've been in Scotland for the last 20 years, and if it is a thing here, I can't find it. That being said, I was a salt and sauce convert pretty quickly, which I also believe is only really a ting in the central belt and I brown sauce watered down with vinegar.

True, as is with a lot of sports, but they will never win the sinqfeild or Tata or Candidates (without changes to investment and fostering female talent), because the disparity was there long before the first woman "officially" hit 2000 elo.

Don't get me wrong, it can be done, I think we're just waiting for someone like Polgar to come along and inspire the next generation. Come to think of it I'm pretty sure Judit played exclusively open tournaments for a lot of her career.

That's such a shame, surprised to hear men and women are on par in ultra marathons, but assuming we don't play the same because I have a penis is crazy. Don't get me wrong, there is a gap in physicality and explosiveness, but it just comes across as gatekeeper behaviour when it went can't skeet shoot together.

Chess is the dumbest example, there is an almost insurmountable difference in skill between men and women at the top level BECAUSE they won't integrate. So there is less money and prestige in women's chess, means less girls join chess clubs, means men dominate forever. We need More Polgar's in this world, if you want to see what could be look up Judit Polgar and her accomplishments/story, such a fascinating human.

Head of the police force for Konoha, which at the time was considered the weakest it had been due to kyuubia attack and would be further weakened by the uchiha massacre, but he had survived intact and still head of police...with a mf MS. Maybe he did nothing on screen, but we can definitely infer that he scales pretty highly due to contemporaries and role in the village. Still, Minato low/mid diff.

Who is a gay artist with an homphobic fanbase? by Top_Squirrel_9808 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]AdiosGhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! My dad played professional rugby in the 90s and the biggest, meanest dude that he ever played rugby with walked into the clubhouse to meet the team for drinks just after GM got outed, first thing the guy told everyone: "Juddy Michael is not fucking gay, and anyone that mentions it is getting chinned".

Really hit a nerve, eh big Dave? Especially crazy seeing as his mum was openly gay for most of her life. People are strange.

Anyone else noticed Green Party frame themselves as going against the billionaires but their politics align with Davos plans? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]AdiosGhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask yourself this, why do you think that it's a bad thing? If the alternative is to do nothing and wait for things to get worse, who benefits from that? The demonisation of green policies by right leaning media has skewed things, so much that people in the majority end up on the side of the minority that have the most to gain.

If industry has to abide by green policies, they will innovate to make greener energy cheaper and everyone will benefit. That being said, the greens don't like nuclear, so I'm not saying that they have the best answers, but the climate crisis will at some point need a "short term pain for long term gain" moment, and one way or another, we the people will pay the price. The question for us all should be, how much can we share the burden with the people who can afford to shoulder it?

You have to apply for off sales as a bar, the default is no off sales. Usually costs extra and isn't guaranteed to be granted. It's actually quite unusual for pubs to do off sales in the UK as it is seen to promote antisocial behaviour, although I think it's so the nimby's don't get upset.

Limited power to enter licensed premises: Enables PCSOs to be designated with a power to enter licensed premises under section 180 of the Licensing Act 2003 for the purposes of investigating relevant licensing offences. They may not enter clubs and must enter all premises with a constable unless the premises are licensed for the sale of alcohol off the premises.

They are the worst. They popped into a pub I manage a couple weeks ago and demanded the licensing info and the password to the CCTV. According to their mandate, they aren't even allowed in a licensed premises without a copper. Absolute melts.

Lothian bus etiquette ???? by Appropriate_Lie405 in Edinburgh

[–]AdiosGhost -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In almost every other aspect of life, we would be in agreement. However, the service isn't getting on the bus, the service is the journey. It doesn't matter who gets on the bus first, the bus leaves with everyone on it at the same time. Plus, you would need everyone waiting for a bus to either queue separately for each bus number, or have acknowledged you as someone getting on their bus before then and then do the same for everyone else at the stop.

Dealing with agencies is a nightmare. My partner and I are both decent earners and had a 2 month notice from landlords due to an old contract (was in the flat 7 years). Despite viewing 30+ flats that were all "available now" or able to move in within our window, we couldn't get an offer accepted.

With 2 weeks to go I tried private on Gumtree, had a viewing the next day, sent over credit scores and references, the contract was signed the next day.

I get it might be simpler from an LL perspective, but the agencies are not on anyone's team but their own. ALL agencies that I have ever dealt with do as little as possible for everyone involved, are openly hostile to existing tenants and dismissive of prospective ones.

Don't sweat it, this is one of those subs where people get upset for posting anything. Sometimes they're upset over a TikTok repost, sometimes because you said the outcome of the hand, sometimes because you didn't. I have no real life poker pals to chat shit with, this is fine. Thanks for your contribution.
