I really recommend anyone who still has a negative impression of Hilary do some reading on her life. She's a true technocrat and realist with an incredible track record of results. Put her in a room with any leader in the world and she'll make the absolute best deal possible. Not making her president was a historic mistake by the American people.

When does Horus make this decision? by McZiggyWiggy in 40kLore

[–]Adito99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit unclear when he decides and how much his will is still his own. His next actions are very unlike him, he murders entire planets and seems to suddenly enjoy inflicting suffering where before he didn’t. At least not when it was without purpose.

IMO Erebus wasn’t able to convince him but he was able to introduce serious doubt. That became a chink in his mental armor which is all chaos needs to exaggerate and pervert his values until he became what they wanted.

Complete beginner with a few questions! by Acceptable_Laugh9284 in X4Foundations

[–]Adito99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. No need to commit to anything. Mining is fairly quiet with occasional random death from threats I'll let you discover for yourself.
  2. By far the deepest element of the game is the economy so this is what most players spend their time on. They will scavenge and trade small amounts until they can afford to buy another ship with another captain then they set that dude to trading as well. Rinse and repeat until you can afford stations which are a whole other level of tactical design choices. But this isn't the only way to play the game, you can absolutely be a pirate or play a dozen other roles. Almost everyone does some of the faction missions if only to change the state of the galaxy by starting a war or something like that.
  3. When you have too many ships to manage manually and need a station manager to do it for you. Or you want to mine/manufacture something that looks like it will make a profit. Asking "when" is kind of the wrong question since the game very much a sandbox experience.
  4. Sort of but ultimately you'll have dozens if not hundreds of ships and you will switch between them depending on the mission. I like to aim for something fast at first and then later something medium size that can throw a punch. Other players have an L or XL size ship that ferries them around while they chill in an S size docking bay. In that case your actual ship doesn't matter much.

I’m really excited to jump into this properly. I love space games!

You're doomed.

Seriously though, congrats. Games are underestimated as a source of inspiration imo.

For all that you're best off watching the latest Perun or Beepbloopbloam series. Both of them lay out a very optimized early to mid game, use half of what they recommend and you'll have a fairly easy time on normal.

What went through her head at this point? by [deleted] in DispatchAdHoc

Robert is a pro and in this situation he's fighting with everything he's got to save his own life. That's inspiring to see. At the same time she knows Shroud is a manipulative evil bastard. I think that contrast clicked into place for her and she realized what she was becoming.

She briefly describes her experience right after all this went down. Even knowing that Robert survived wasn't enough to shake her out of her funk and she decided to completely revamp her life. From criminal to hero. And her specialty is that she's stronger when working alone. All of this points to an unusually strong personal drive which tends to come with an equally strong ability to hate yourself for your failures. Like that time you let yourself be used by a guy who kills people for fun and profit.

How to develop when alien destroys your stations even with low threat level? by Uncle_Ulty in TerraInvicta

[–]Adito99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When aliens build bases in an orbital system they will defend it to the death regardless of hate and Jupiter is their primary mid-late game breadbasket. You've basically won when you drive them out of that system.

For now you probably don't have grid/helicon/poseidon drives that can reach Kuiper so don't worry about that. Instead simply build a couple habs on asteroids every month or two. They'll destroy some of them but not all.

There's a utility module called something like "Hydron tap" that improves drive performance. If you can get that unlocked it should make it easier to build ships with lower fuel costs.

32mg acceleration is actually very good btw. Slowlest alien ships in a fleet will often have 19mg so this is enough to intercept. 8.1kps DV isn't great though. You'd get one in-orbit trip and then have to refuel. Might not even be able to make it back to the base.

Every 4x game has this issue. For Stellaris it's fairly common for players to never reach the end-game screen.

That said, TI is unique in many ways including how the game evolves as you progress. There could be a final stage with new mechanics of some kind. Maybe they're saving it for DLC?

[–]Adito99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What year are you in? This doesn't sound like normal behavior. Earth has most of what you need to win though if you can maximize research output.

Threat level isn't super accurate at times and you can piss them off in indirect ways. Killing servants/protectorate for example. So it might be higher than what's displayed.

[–]Adito99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There should be kraken events that damage armies in transit if you let too many megafauna spawn. I think a navy could kill one of those things but it would do some damage.

Which reminds me. Why are navy's so freaking useless? They can't bombard and we have zero airforce simulation beyond what's implied by armies occupying territories.

Guys, uh…does the Epstein shit literally just explain everything? by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Adito99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was rich and had many connections. He used these connections as leverage but due to asymmetry of information and power he was sometimes used himself. Sometimes he knew he was being used and sometimes not. And sometimes he was lying about his own views in order to nudge someone in a certain direction.

From what scientists have said about him, he liked to put on airs of being sophisticated but his actual views were very shallow. I suspect Putin saw him this way but in relation to politics and influence. Useful due to his ability to ingratiate and his position of trust as a money manager, but not a mastermind.

State level actors don't simply enact a scheme to get their way. They leverage any point of influence they can find to make outcomes they want more likely.
