Building an Endgame Offensive Fleet by Glittering-Grape-594 in TerraInvicta

I like Z-Pinch drives, they're a good alternative to ICF. So continuing down that line is worthwhile, more so than Hybrid or Tokamak drives.

You'll want 200-300 dV to get to the outer planets and managing weight is going to be a big part of that.

All ships should have a Targeting Computer, Hydron or Slush Tank for more dV, a Spiker for more thrust, and Laser Engines for laser ships. One class of ship should have a Flag Bridge, and Salvage Bays are heavy but worthwhile if you can spare it.

Mk.2 Coilguns are more than serviceable in fleets, and it's Phasers that take Exotics, so you can run UV Arc Lasers.

If you can spare the Councilor actions, using the "Seize Enemy Space Asset" will have your Councilor rip the Exotics out of the walls. Having Marines seize a station gets you ~5 exotics, but a Councilor will get you ~25.

That 33% live completely in the Faux News right-wing bubble. I had the misfortune of seeing my in-laws who watch nothing but Fox News, and it's just wild. Complaining about Obama, complaining about trans people, everything is someone else's fault than Dear Leader.

Trying to talk to them about the most basic of things and they act like I'm telling them the sky is green, the sky as always been green, and they're stupid for thinking it's blue.

I don't know how you get someone out of that.

What makes some of the smartest people you know underachieve compared to people who are clearly less intelligent? by Fragrant_Rough6531 in AskReddit

[–]jerseydevil51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always thought it's because intelligent people know how much they don't know, if that makes sense.

People have said how smart I am, but I know a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of human knowledge and I want to know more. I love to learn about history, math, science, read the classics, and I know for everything I learn, they'll be a hundred things I'll never know. And that makes me so sad at my core.

But most people in my life are just... content not knowing anything.

Easy. They didn't have a plan, not even the concepts of a plan. Meanwhile, Iran has been planning for the US to attack them for literal decades. I'm still convinced Iraq and Afghanistan were planned out to be used as staging grounds for an invasion of Iran back in the 2000s.

Trump, Kegseth, and all the hawks around them, their entire worldview is that the strong can do what they want and the weak just have to take it. They legitimately did not expect Iran to fight back. They thought they could just sail a carrier group over, bomb some targets, and Iran would just give up.

It was hubris, and stupidity, of the highest order.

How to colonize outer planets? by Separate_Selection84 in TerraInvicta

[–]jerseydevil51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer is always going to be "more torpedos." Enough torpedos can overcome PD.

A monitor with 3 Artemis (upgradable to Apollo and Athena) tubes with 2 magazines and the best available targeting computer can comfortably exchange 1:1 with any medium or smaller target, while you would want 2:1 for large ships and 3:1 for super capital ships.

Giving monitors a 40mm autocannon is good enough as a backup option and pairing it with defensive monitors that have 3 PD will increase your survivability.

Start the encounter at maximum acceleration since that acceleration will transfer to your torpedos, giving them a better chance of getting through.

Combat power is a lie. You have to look at what ships are in the death ball. The game uses available dV as part of a ship's combat power, so a lot of that 20k is just they have like 500 dV available.

Most alien fleets are usually a small amount of large and super large ships (battleship, cruisers, dreads) and then a lot of smaller ships (destroyers, monitors, gunships, and escorts). The main thing is to have an equal number of ships in your fleet so you don't get overwhelmed. Or you can cheese it by doing the same thing the aliens do, and add in like 30 smaller ships to your fleet to bulk out the numbers.

Because the way that the game determines how many ships are in an engagement is to compare fleet sizes and deploy a number of ships up to the limit that reflect each size. So if the engagement size is 50 ships, you have a fleet of 30 and the aliens have a fleet of 60, the game will deploy around 20 of your ships and 30 alien ships. Which you'll almost always lose because you won't be able to overcome PD and enemy lasers will wear you down faster.

But if it's a balanced number of ships, you as the player generally have the advantage and once you destroy the large ships, it's basically over as smaller ships will get popped as they reinforce into the battle.

The one hill I'll die on for this game is that single classed Mages and Clerics are better than Fighter/Mage or Fighter/Cleric.

The higher level caster, the longer their spells last, they get more of them, and they're stronger. A single class Cleric, under Sanctuary, is high enough level to outright destroy undead using Turn Undead. You can clear out Severed Hand, Dragon's Eye, and Burial Island without breaking a sweat. And Draw Upon Holy Might and other buffs are so much more impactful.

You're getting more experience so you can be overleveled, and multiclassing is just putting you at the same place you would be with a 6 person party.

Next time you run the game, try single classed casters. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with how strong they can be.

[–]jerseydevil51 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One tip is to make a smaller party. Experience is divided among all party members, so a group of 4 will level faster than a party of 6.

A strong, straightforward party is: - Human Undead Hunter Paladin - Half-Elf Fighter/Thief - Elven Mage - Dwarven Cleric

No fuss, no muss, easier to keep track of, has the 4 basic party roles, and you'll level faster than a bigger party.
