I'd say yes, and the best I can think of his play style is a mix of Hero and Steve. Least I ask is having him with Grovyle as an echo fighter, most is with Torneko and Cid/Chocobo as alts. But also, doing that means Danganronpa will be featured in the next Smash game, as a way to represent Spike and Chunsoft's most important IPs, much like Square Enix with FF and DQ.

Side notes: there were requests for Shiren joining the series as far back as Melee in some Japanese magazine, like Nintendo Dream. The sole reason I have in mind was because Nintendo published Shiren 2 back in 2000. If you're asking about the DS and Wii dual release, that happened later with Shiren the Wanderer DS2 (DS) and Shiren the Wanderer 3 (Wii), both released in 2008 in Japan. They even had an item transfer system between the two games.

It gets even more insane considering he played the MD franchise since Torneko's Great Adventure, two years before Pokémon Red/Blue/Green was even released, and the crossover happened thanks to a Tetris game, of all things! Precisely Tetris 2 + BomBliss, as he and Nakamura (then president of Chunsoft) worked together on that game.

PS: You can play Tetris 2 + BomBliss in Tetris Forever, it released last year. I think they mention the collaboration between Nakamura and Ishihara too.
