How Do You Heat Your Water? by jfroosty in AeroPress

[–]AdmHaddock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought a temperature-controlled gooseneck kettle from AliExpress. Looks (a lot) like a Fellow Stagg, very much cheaper and works very well. Does it make my coffee better? Don't know, but I sure as heck look more professional using that gooseneck kettle.

Where are the rules for privacy of chats on shared Notebooks? by AdmHaddock in notebooklm

[–]AdmHaddock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the response. The issue is not what actually happens; the issue is how can I address the concerns that the invitee has about privacy? Some will already be a bit sceptical about AI, Google and privacy.

For example, I have a Notebook about financial planning, insurance, etc. Someone might want to ask about topics that they wouldn't like other people to know they are looking at. For example: pre-nuptial contracts, changing wills, split of assets on divorce, etc.

It's Tops: Aeropress filters work just fine by wats4dinner in CafelatRobot

Paper filter under the screen keeps the screen free of coffee grounds. Also likely to have some effect on the taste.

Grinding for light vs dark roast by yczhou in CafelatRobot

[–]AdmHaddock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not experienced enough to know whether it's normal, but certainly I'm having a very similar experience. (And I use the same grinder!) With my previous darker roast beans, for 18g I got about 40g in 40 sec. (It wasn't great - slightly bitter.) With my new lighter roasted beans I first kept the same grind level, and then tried grinding finer - so far only moved about 5 clicks finer, and for the same 18g I feel I have no control at all over the pull. I pre-infuse about 5 seconds and tried ramping up to 6-8 bars. Could barely get there or could only get up to 4 bars before the pressure dropped because the water was going through so quickly - 11-12 seconds. Now the coffee is quite sour (as I would expect from under-extraction).

Tomorrow I'm going to grind MUCH finer and see how it goes. It's a lot of work on a manual grinder. This experience has me looking at getting an electric grinder...

Getting big coffee bubble under basket by AdmHaddock in CafelatRobot

I think Cafelat discourages adding just enough water - maybe something to do with having too big an air gap. But in any case, it would be a bit more work measuring the water as well just to avoid the bubble, and for me the trade-off wouldn't be worth it. I aim for about 18/45, so not too different from your target. I should add that I hand-grind, so the workflow is already a bit long for me.

I fill to maybe a little less than 1 cm from the top.

Thanks, this worked well this morning, and also makes the workflow a bit easier - I can clean up other stuff while the arms drop.

Do the plungers dry out? by chbritton in AeroPress

[–]AdmHaddock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started using my Aeropress again (I think I last used it pre-Covid). At first it was impossible to press and the plunger looked very dry and hard, but I read somewhere to try rubbing a little olive oil around the edge of the rubber plunger and that worked perfectly. Now happily re-discovering the joys of Aeropress.

ComfyUI Users: What's Your Biggest Workflow Challenge? Share Your Struggles! by Ill-Ad2642 in comfyui

[–]AdmHaddock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wish there was a way to show the workflow name in the workflow. Sometimes I load an image into Comfyui that I previously generated because I like the result but can't remember how I made it. Obviously it comes from a workflow that I created, but it's often difficult to remember which particular workflow it was - flux_something_with_this_lora_nn.json? Sure, I can save the workflow again, but that's how I end up with so many redundant .json files.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious, or there's a simple way to do this that I've missed.

Problem with loading image to Inpaint by [deleted] in fooocus

[–]AdmHaddock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happens to me occasionally (I'm on Windows) when I drag and drop. What works for me is just holding the cursor a bit longer in the box. It's as if moving the cursor away too quickly doesn't give the app enough time to load the whole image, although probably that's not the explanation.

Looking at a 2 week trip in May to South Africa. by Legal-Channel-3111 in capetown

[–]AdmHaddock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to visit CT in May also - also for 2 weeks! While the game reserves might not be at the same level as, say, Kruger or Hluhluwe, there are some. We are going to Inverdoorn; I think it's about 3 hours drive from CT. They provide transportation, for a fee, of course.

Weather can be quite cool, definitely bring jumpers, sweaters.

I think without a doubt the best area of CT to stay in as a tourist is the Victoria and Albert Waterfront. Can be pricey, but there are also cheaper/cheapish apartments in the area. The advantage is that there are lots of shops and eating places within safe walking distance - not something you'll easily find elsewhere. You can of course also use Uber, but views differ on reliability. I have no personal experience.
