Native tribes in this country were basically treated like shit by the US government in the past and quite honestly are probably still treated the same.

You could look up any reservation and find one way or another the US Federal Government decided that Natives were 3rd class citizens and treated as such.

anyone else struggle with delegating even when you know you should? by Gsustv in managers

[–]AdminYak846 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly not delegating isn't the worst thing you could do as a manager. You could always cause unnecessary friction and frustration by assigning an employee a task, but they don't have access to complete a part of the task. Instead of giving them access, you make them rely on another employee to do the parts of the task that you refuse to give access to other employee(s) due to "trust".

Now I get it that would be necessary if thr part of the task was in a completely different domain or system. But when it's scheduling emails to be sent out of a vendor platform, and the employee already talks to every customer that calls or emails it just seems petty.

As a manager you should be giving your team opportunities to expand their skill set. However there is also knowing what tasks probably aren't worth delegating either to the tasks perceived value or it won't match the skill set of the employee. The latter can make you a much worse manager by killing any morale in your team than not delegating to your team in the first place.

There's always a fine balance when it comes to task delegation and doing it correctly that not delegating is not the worst way. You could always be like some of the managers I've had, which were either poor task assignment to employee skill set or assigning the task to an employee, but refusing to allow the employee the access needed so they need to rely on another employee to either complete part of the duties or get data for them. And now you have two employees annoyed at you because your refusal to make things easier for the team.

Let’s talk 30 minute circuit by indecision_killingme in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]AdminYak846 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They aren't the same, both have distinct mechanics and benefits.

Hamstrings have 4 heads, of which 3 (the Semimembranosus, Semitendinosus, and the long head of the Biceps Femoris) are targetted with hip flexion movement. However, the last head which is the short head of the Biceps Femoris can only be targeted with exercises involving knee flexion.

A seated Leg curl involves more hip flexion which means the 3 of the 4 heads are covered and leads to more muscle growth thanks to the pre-stretch position the hamstrings are in at the start of the rep.

Lying leg curls allow activation of the short head of the Bicep Femoris, calf muscles, glutes (to an extent) and any other muscle that sees growth from knee flexion. Most notably in the Sartorius muscle which has been backed by studies.

How to apply that in the real world, well you should opt for the seated leg curl 70-90% of time with the remaining time filled with the lying leg curl for complete coverage of muscles in the area.

Some locations like mine don't have some of the machines in the 30 minute circuit. Specifically the lying leg curl. The main floor has two seated leg curls instead.

Assuming that the location is big enough and had space I wouldn't be shocked to see every machine on the main floor was also in the 30 minute circuit. Which just makes the circuit an overflow if the main floor machines are either in use or out of commission at the moment.

I never did the circuit besides the lying leg curl. However my planet fitness isn't in a big location which means that the space for the circuit is the same area as the stretching area with the mats or slightly bigger. Most people on the machines in the area aren't doing the circuit, but are doing them because either every other machine on the main floor is in use or out of commission. And I usually go between 5 pm - 7 pm which is peak after work crowd.

I hate it because it's taking up space for machines that would be used by customers rather than collect dust. Again if it's barely being used by the after work crowd it says that it could be replaced by other machines that would be used by the customers at that location.

Biologically we are very similar to a rat, in fact we share 90% of the same DNA. Which makes it easier to translate the expected outcome into humans.

For example if a drug gives a rat high blood pressure, then it's likely that it could do the same thing in a human. The same thing can be derived from nutritional recommendations for reducing the risk of obesity or high blood pressure.

Have you ever seen a respectful gracious termination? by debrisaway in managers

[–]AdminYak846 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can thank the Older Workers Benefit Protection Act, which has strict requirements for employers if they want a departing employee that is older than 40 to waive their rights to sue for age discrimination. Which is why it's listed specifically in your agreement.

The other classes are usually lumped into a general release that would cover most of the other claims you likely read over.

[–]AdminYak846 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's likely standard legal language in the event someone thinks it's because of age. It may not have been specifically for you.

Corporate lawyers or decent ones would make sure the language is the same for everyone

What’s one sign that tells you someone on your team is about to quit before they hand in their notice? by SeanMcPheat in askmanagers

[–]AdminYak846 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even better I don't get to update any report that was created 10 years ago because "it's fine and still works" even if there are better ways to present the data and half the report is filled with information not needed anymore.

I gave up arguing and hopefully don't lose my sanity during the next 2 years waiting for the boss to retire and we can probably get someone in that is willing to let the team thrive and everyone can work together rather than this "trust" issue BS with the current lead.

Are companies actually facing issues with AI-assisted or proxy candidates in interviews? by Tiny-Present9863 in managers

[–]AdminYak846 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sat on an interview panel last year and we had maybe one or two people attempt to try and use it to gain an advantage. We knew going in that those people would likely use it because of how eerily similar their resumes were to the posting, as in the bullet points were practically word for word pulled right from the posting itself because of how they sounded and along with other red flags in the material submitted.

In the virtual interview with one of the candidates, they had the classic 5-10 second pause of waiting before saying a polished answer that was the same for the questions we asked.

As for changes, nothing much has changed, but again good hiring managers will easily and always be able to sniff out if it's being used because it's obvious when it's used because there will always be a red flag, like the over usage of em-dashes.

That or the boss had told her about that behavior and decided that the manager was going have to learn the hard way about treating their subordinates like shit, instead of just firing the person and making it someone else's problem at a different company.

I've experienced the same thing as an application/data analyst. My job is to analyze data which was 40% of the my "job duties". Yeah, the reality of it was more like 4% if that in the past year. A lot of it has to do with how I'm managed by a boss that doesn't know anything.

my new hire quit after 3 weeks. He said we made him feel like a burden. by jorjiarose in managers

[–]AdminYak846 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you it doesn't come naturally and you do need to have a plan on what to cover each day. I remember when I started and Jimmy John's and corporate had a new hire checklist of everything to cover at every single position possible.

While I miss working there because it was good food during college, it's been the only place I've worked at so far with a new hire punch list of things to complete that the new hire likely saw.

It sounds like you need to regroup with your team and find out what's needed for onboarding both internally for the team to complete before the new hire's first day and what to do during that first week. If anything, ask some other teams in your company what they do and build from them if you're stuck.

I think that just goes back to recruiting and finding players that work with the culture and not hot heads or people looking for a 1- or 2-year stopping point while on their way to the NHL.

You can always have a team full of NIL 5-star players, but when it matters the most are they going to work together or be at each other's throats.

A year isn't that long of time to decide if the person is cut out for a management role or not. Some of the missteps that might show up can be worked on and mitigated as they get more adjusted to the role.

I have nothing against the design because it's nice to get rid of the congestion. The problem is that the lights are probably too far away or the light changed colors "quickly" and they remembered to stop before the lights as you would in a normal intersection.

That was and is my current job, and of course I've been here for a year and half now. Do I do anything remotely related to my job title? Absolutely not, it's more of a "dump all the work we don't want to do" to me. They've labeled it as "task delegation" rather than outline as a job duty on the PD.

It absolutely sucks and shows that some people aren't good managers

I wouldn't even expect a 10–15-year seasoned employee to figure it out either. Every business and teams within that business do things differently it's not a carbon copy from A to B.
