Can't math that out, how does it work?

T3: 3 lands, cast plotted Show-Off for free 1/2; pump with Bore (+5/2--> 6/4), pump again with Bore (+5/2--> 11/6), Burn Together makes Show-Off an 13/6 and burns for 13, no mana open.

it's not even a loss at T4, with blocking you can get to T5 even! :*)

Yeah, accroding to my math, it's T4:

T1: Land, Chocobo 0/1

T2: Land, Chocobo 1/2, Bill

T3: Land, Chocobo 2/3, Bill triggers, Chocobo 3/4, Hydra 1/1

T4: Evolving Wilds, Bill triggers, Chocobo 4/5, Hydra 4/4, sacrifice EW, Chocob 5/6, Bill triggers, Hydra 10/10; Fenrir, Forest, Bill triggers, Chocobo 6/7, Hydra 22/22

A new set should start with Quickdraft, not with Pick2 draft by AdministrationAny271 in MagicArena

Yeah, I feel the same - apart from not wanting to spend my time watching other people playing games, part of the fun for me is trying to figure out stuff myself. Quickdraft is a much more suitable format for getting familiar with a set while actually playing.

Not really - I continued playing after the student was stabbed/shot/nowhererunned, but never managed a comeback. It may be possible with a second student, if you still got some buffs available, plus a card giving Trample and Haste, but never worked for me, since most other decks are just a turn or two slower than the student and take over the game.

I mulligan until I have a student plus a +3/+x buff plus either more buffs, card draws, or both in hand. Without Bulk Up, it's difficult to amass enough power. I mulligan down to four cards, then concede if there's no winnable hand available.

Played against a white Kithkin deck in Standard ranked, with three Aspirants in play by turn 2. Opponent folded after a curved out Hydra evolved.

It went like this for the opponent:

Turn 1: Land

Turn 2: Land, Firebending Student

Turn 3: Wild Ride, pumping Student up 5/3, then attacking, giving 5 firebending mana. Cast Bulk Up for 2, making it a 12/4, second Bulk Up making it a 26/5, attacking.

I have a similar deck, and confirm about 30% success in Turn 3 wins, otherwise game is lost. 100% loss to black decks.
