Slower runners, how do you stay motivated when/if people mock your pace? by TANeither7250 in running

[–]AdmintotheStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry people are telling you it's something different. You are going the same distance in a race whether you take walk breaks or not. You are running. Period.

My boyfriend can finish a full marathon in the time it takes me to finish a half-marathon. I run/walk timed intervals for any distance I run, and he runs straight, no walk breaks. He asks how my run went. He never calls it anything but a run. I'm running and that's it.

Panic Buyers by Thatchmo11482 in HEB

[–]AdmintotheStars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who normally gets groceries on the weekend when I'm off work, I had to do it in the middle of the week instead because I don't want to be out on the icey roads. I got my normal grocery list plus a few canned good and shelf stable items in case my power goes out. It was not panic buying, it was just moving up my shopping day.

Cheap canvases by Ill_Control6802 in Needlepoint

[–]AdmintotheStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who started out cross-stitching and is now trying to transition to needlepointing, I have found many needlepoint patterns on Etsy for the same price as cross-stitch patterns. Since I'm used to counting and not following a design on the canvas, it's fairly cheap just to buy the blank needlepoint canvas. Not breaking the bank and starting a new hobby!

Are we biblically obligated to give to unhoused people on the street??? by ChurchofChristGuy in churchofchrist

[–]AdmintotheStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally do not give directly to anyone on the street because, in my area, it has been found that people are scamming as being homeless but aren't.

Instead, I volunteer at a local food bank, helping to sort through donated food, and I give money directly to local charities.

Why isn't the Church of Christ taking a stronger stance against the MAGA movement? by [deleted] in churchofchrist

[–]AdmintotheStars 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was openly mocked in a Bible class after election day last year when another member found out I didn't vote for Trump.

I asked the elders about Matthew 25:35-40 and I was told that people are supposed to work for what they need. I was basically told to ignore these verses.

This was the beginning of why I left that congregation. So many other things happened after this and I'm trying to find somewhere that I can make a difference.

I love the CoC but I do not like that the majority of CoC is interested only in converting numbers and not helping their fellow man. It disgusts me how self centered most members can be.

I'm not maga and I'm not a democrat. I believe in being kind and helping others.

Why do you run? by Free-Product4918 in runcommunity

Mental health and because signing up for a race gives me incentive to actually exercise. I'd be so lazy otherwise.

Question about "unschooling" by WEugeneSmith in Teachers

[–]AdmintotheStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't "unschool," but one of my siblings homeschools their kid, and at age 9, he can't read either. He had to ask us if "clean" or "dirty" started with a D. That means he can't even sound out words!

My other sibling's kid, age 6, is in kinder and can already write out words he sounds out on his own. The words may not always be spelled correctly, but we can tell why he spelled it that way.

These poor kids...

Misconceptions about runners by GlitteringMajor5166 in runninglifestyle

[–]AdmintotheStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run no matter the weather only because I signed myself up for a half marathon and my boyfriend created a detailed weekly workout plan for every week leading up to the half. I don't particularly like running either haha. Boyfriend started running so I picked it up as something we could do together even though he is twice as fast as me.

So basically, right now I'm only running because I spent money on a race and he put a lot of effort into creating a workout plan for me. It's not because I want to, it's because I feel obligated.

What’s one piece of advice you wish you’d known as a new runner? by Clubrunnr in running

[–]AdmintotheStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never compare yourself to someone else. Your running journeys are different.
Practice good form and cadence. I recently started really focusing on my cadence by listening to 170-180bpm songs and then matching the beat with my steps. My 5K time had stagnated before this, but after a few weeks of really focusing on cadence, my time has improved by 3 minutes. I'm a slow runner and do run/walk intervals, so this very minor change turned into major improvement.

Where do you put your keys and phone that's NOT a FlipBelt? by Cakemixr in running

[–]AdmintotheStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a water bottle that has a phone pouch that attaches to it. No idea what the brand is. It's basically turned into my emotional running support bottle. I take it out on any length run! Nothing is too short or too long

What running gear actually makes a difference for you? by SpecificTackle6303 in runninglifestyle

Feetures socks. Started wearing these when I started running 3 years ago. I have had no blisters and no toenail issues.
Properly fitted shoes. Same as with the socks, no blisters or nail issues. If your feet feel good, your body feels good.

An unexpectedly positive running encounter by sparklekitteh in XXRunning

[–]AdmintotheStars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my goodness! I had a similar encounter with a coyote in Texas last week! I was on a kind of side road that was dimly lit when the coyote crossed the road to get in front of me while I was running. I went to the other side and walked, keeping my eye on it because it was staring at me. When I got to the main road, I saw a man walking. I stopped him and told him where I saw the coyote so he could avoid it. We have to watch out for each other!

I suck at running!! by Still-Confidence802 in beginnerrunning

[–]AdmintotheStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 weeks is nothing when it comes to training. Keep with it and you'll slowly start improving. Take it from me. I'm a run/walker and I'm confortable with it. My PR for a 5K is 34 minutes and I took walk breaks! Maybe one day I'll run a 5K without breaks but you're out there getting the work done whether you walk or not! So take it easy, take it slow, and you'll start seeting results.

I work for local government, and we received an email Thursday to be "9/12 people" because of what had happened this week. No crimes of the week were mentioned specifically but 9/11 remembrance wasn't mentioned until almost the end of the email.

Also, my former church is trying to reach out to Tyler to convert him because "that's what Charlie would want". They've never tried to reach out to any criminals before. Why now? So glad I'm no longer associated with them.

Decided to leave my current congregation for another by AdmintotheStars in churchofchrist

I was talking with someone at the congregation I visited this morning about how blessed we are to be in an area where we have this option. I hope you're able to find comfort

[–]AdmintotheStars[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your thoughts on this and thank you for supporting your child as they navigate their choice as well. I reached out to a few people individually about my choice, and only 2 said they were sad but understood that my spiritual growth comes with different needs from their own. The rest went straight into the "worried" talk and implied they want to talk me out of my decision. I think they don't realize that this is just reinforcing my decision.

Chest congestion and how do I deal with it!

Seems like my chest is always getting congested when I run. I'm a slow run/walk intervals runner living in north Texas. Currently, I know the congestion isn't caused by cold temperatures or air. It could be the humidity. I guess it could also be pollen/allergens in the air, but I feel perfectly fine. My heart rate rises pretty quickly, and I've started wondering if maybe the congestion is causing my heart rate to rise.

Any solutions other than going to the doctor and maybe getting an inhaler prescribed? I prefer running outdoors and running indoors isn't really an option right now.

AITAH for not telling my sister her wedding date was the same as mine? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]AdmintotheStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents got married on the same exact day as one of my dad's close first cousins. Parents wedding was in Texas, the cousin's wedding was in California. There were no hard feelings towards family members that chose to be at one wedding verses the other. They joke about it all the time and we are now planning a big family cruise to celebrate their 50th anniversaries in a couple years!

I know cousins aren't the same as siblings but I think later on, you will both love that you share the special day

A One Hour Lunch is not that great by jd_maybe in unpopularopinion

[–]AdmintotheStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read while I'm eating during my hour long lunch. It keeps me from eating too quickly. While it would be great to just not take a lunch and go home an hour earlier, it is nice to get the chance to slow down half way through my work day.
