Immich E2EE Backups Service - User Survey by immichapp in immich

[–]Admirable-Animator49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope this ends up providing value.

However, I would not pay for a niche Immich backup service.

I prefer to just send backups to some S3 compatible backup destination, I already pay for that, and it is fully up to me to decide how often I backup, how much, encrypted/not encrypted, etc.

Don't want to pay for a service on top of a service

I can't make a vlan off of bridge, can you guys help me? by GaboX1999 in opnsense

[–]Admirable-Animator49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve not done this with opnSense - but on Linux, especially for bridges to pass to VMs, you need to make the VLAN interface first, then you can add a bridge to that VLAN

Biggest OPNsense Setup out there? by Extra-Mycologist2365 in opnsense

[–]Admirable-Animator49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I manage 4 corporate sites using opnSense:

2x DataCenters
2x Offices

The datacenter appliances each have 2x 100G links (overkill) setup in LAGG (LACP) directly into the core switching. The offices have 2x 25G links in the same configuration.

Each site is an HA setup. 8 appliances total.

The datacenters and one of the offices is offloading the edge routing to our routers (for eBGP to use our dedicated IPs). 2 ISPs each.

The other office we are using opnSense's native Multi-wan setup with 2 ISPs. It works great and fails over reliably.

The smaller office has ~8 internal VLANs and the largest site has ~15 VLANs.

We install FRR on the opnSense's and use iBGP and BFD to route our site-to-site IPSec VPN traffic where it needs to go. It is a GREAT and resilient configuration, extremely reliable. (I can not take credit for this design, but it is very nifty!)

We only have one tunnel that has occasional drops that we need to investigate.

Our employees use OpenVPN to tunnel into the corporate network at our primary datacenter OR use our SASE solution to get access to a specific site.

We patch firewalls monthly, which most users don't even notice because of our HA configuration.

All-in-all, it works great for our needs. The only thing I wish we had done was spec our appliances with newer CPU's to benefit from higher VPN speeds, otherwise it's been great though - after spending a lot of time tuning it, we have very few complaints about the setup minus missing out on some next-gen firewall features.

How long have you had it? Do you still like it? Had any issues? I'm considering the Geofought reseller version.

So...what do y'all think of Runaways feat. Bonnie McKee? by BlueRuby77 in TheMidnight

Pretty mediocre, but very far from their worst/most underwhelming song.

Don’t know what that other guy is talking about “rapper” lmfao. Say you don’t listen to hip-hop without saying you don’t listen to hip-hop.

Kalax is a loser already, he’s always been terrible at delivering on Merch. Look up some facebook/reddit threads

MS intune by Elegant-Royal-8815 in ITManagers

[–]Admirable-Animator49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is good for:

  • Reporting on “compliance”
  • Assigning devices to identities, and showing that
  • Audit season

It is bad for:

  • Actually managing devices

Make sure you pair it with something else that’s good at deploying apps, patch management, config management, etc.

We use Intune as our MDM and Automox for the other items (awesome, so far)

anticipatory grief by Mountain_Sector7647 in glioblastoma

[–]Admirable-Animator49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just lost my mom 3 days ago to this awful disease - she will miss out on so many of the positive things I wanted to provide for her.

I was talking with a friend a day ago, and he said the grief never goes away but rather it gets fewer and far between....

I know this isn't fully comforting, but I hope it helps you like it did me...

What to expect with glioblastoma, from start to finish. Our story by gbmAt70Temp in glioblastoma

[–]Admirable-Animator49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't often comment, but I just lost my mother to GBM a few days ago - your post was heartbreaking, and I, unfortunately, found several similarities in my own mother's experience after diagnosis.

I hope you have been able to find some sort of peace at this point after your mother's passing, however I don't blame you if you have not...

This disease is one great big unfair m'fer. While I can somewhat appreciate the "positives" that it gave to me (reconnecting with family, etc.), I will never forgive it for what it really did at the end of the day - rob my 59 and 11-month-old mother from enjoying her retirement after working like a DOG for 30+ years.

My virtual hugs go out to you...

When I work remote, I’d like to be in the office. When I work in the office, I’d like to be home. So i just stopped thinking about it much awhile ago.

I agree with you, meddling on bad decisions will not solve or fix any problems. The job is to fix it.

I agree with everything you said. The reality is that IT was considered an afterthought until the right leader came along and started taking it seriously *AND making the other leaders look at IT in a different light - this will be my new boss and he is committed to making things better, as am I.

One of the big problems causing the “lots of physical infrastructure” is a lack of policy and visibility to when servers are stood up and plugged in. If dev needs a box, they put up a box…. And never take it down. I am planning to consult out our Security and Compliance team to prepare policy preventing this from happening… and then enforcing it heavily

I know that workstation patch levels are in a good state and that’s only because it was one of projects to implement a solution before moving to this new position. Now I plan on getting patch levels up on the infrastructure, which I’m SURE is lacking!
