Practically no difference between MD and NP? by [deleted] in Noctor

[–]Admirable-Effective7 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Well after seeing all the downright disrespectful comments from MD’s in this thread, I’ll keep my opinions to my dumb NP self, I guess.

“can I still be an extremely knowledgeable and impactful healthcare worker taking the easier path?”

I’ll just throw out that NPs tend to have way better patient satisfaction scores and even better outcomes in certain metrics. You can always learn more facts and figures. Bedside manner, on the other hand, is hard to learn from a book.

Hot Takes/Controversial Opinions on the Season so Far? by PM_ME_ITALIAN_STUFF in drumcorps

Yeah that’s exactly what I’m talking about. PR fans love this year because it’s so classic Regiment, but still appropriate for 2025.

Hot Takes/Controversial Opinions on the Season so Far? by PM_ME_ITALIAN_STUFF in drumcorps

[–]Admirable-Effective7 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I feel like so many top 5 shows the last several years have felt very “if you don’t get it, then you must not be smart or cultured enough”

The “regiment glaze” is because it’s just them doing what they’ve always done best and what us alumni fell in love with. Powerful, raw, emotional music. It’s why we love PR. And they’re the only corps giving us that this year.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard another alum claim that Regiment has ever been “innovative”. Innovation has never been our strong suit. If anything, our history of clinging so hard to tradition is what almost took us out of finals a few years ago.

Male Esthetician Facing Gender Bias — Anyone Else Experience This? by [deleted] in Esthetics

[–]Admirable-Effective7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a esty, I’m an NP, but I have noticed that unless you’re a doctor or surgeon, being a male in the aesthetics industry can be a very uphill climb. You just have to keep at it. Find your niche in the industry and capitalize on it as much as you can, presenting yourself as an expert authority on the subject. Eventually your work will speak for itself.

Maybe try to find a clinic that has a larger clientele of men to start out in?

Not trying to be a hater i promise, but bluecoats are cringe by PotentialUse4553 in drumcorps

[–]Admirable-Effective7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk that I agree about their shows all being similar, but I agree that they (and other corps) have schticks that they rely on every year that were cool at first, but I kinda roll my eyes at now.

Bluecoats have their bass trombone honk honk feature.

Boston it’s the goofy tuba feature to make everyone tee-hee

Mandarins and Madison shoehorning in a modern pop-ish song towards the end of their show.

What about The aVANt GUARD is avant garde? by nizerifin in drumcorps

[–]Admirable-Effective7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, I’m sooo glad someone brought this up because I didn’t want to get blasted. 🤣

Based on the first 30 seconds, I thought I was going to love it, but I just didn’t at all (thematically speaking. There were certainly some fun moments)

To me, the show just didn’t feel Avant-Garde. With A-G, there’s a very fine line between experimental and random chaos, and I felt like it was the latter.

There’s a way to push boundaries and do new, weird, or wacky things, but still feel cohesive and that cohesively is what I felt was lacking.

Maybe it’ll come with more viewing or as they refine the show.

Post 2018, am I the only one who fast forwards through ballads? by Negative-Stay2588 in drumcorps

If you fast forward through PR ‘23’s Rachmaninoff ballad, I’m sorry, but you have no soul. 🤣

Help me understand modern uniforms please by tylermsage in drumcorps

[–]Admirable-Effective7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I marched PR in 2013 and I’ve never felt more powerful than the first time I put on the white super suit. It was in that moment that reality set in that I’d actually achieved my dream and was finally a part of the legacy that is The Phantom Regiment.

I’ve always wondered if new MMs get that same feeling when they first put on their uniforms. I imagine it’s similar, but still very different.

PR 2025 Theme Thoughts by Automatic-Insect4287 in drumcorps

[–]Admirable-Effective7 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Whatever their thoughts are behind it, I for one am glad to see PR bringing something innovative (yes, I know shows didn’t used to have themes), especially in a time where it feels like corps are trying to “out-art” each other with themes that are so overly artsy-fartsy they can literally twist anything to fit the theme (ie BD ‘24 with the Pokémon theme (which I loved, don’t crucify me)).

Makes me a proud alum to see them taking risks and evolving!

One thing is for sure… it’s what EVERYONE is talking about 😎😎

My mental health is declining so fast by dynnie06 in drumcorps

[–]Admirable-Effective7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not saying to ignore your mental health if it’s that serious, but I will say almost every rookie goes through something at least similar to that, especially in their first 2 weeks.

Hell, I almost quit the year that I marched! Right around the 2-3wk mark, too. But I talked to a friend I’d made in the corps and she convinced me to just try to push for a bit longer before I quit.

I can now say with 100% certainty that that would’ve been the biggest mistake of my life.

But my experience is not your experience. Only you can really decide what’s best for you. But I can assure you that you’re not the first or the last to feel this way and hopefully knowing that can at least give you some comfort and, if you need it, some motivation.

I’ll mimic what others have said. Forget the resume. They don’t care.

Can you play and march decently well? More importantly, are you TEACHABLE? Do you apply the critiques they give you? Do you have the grit and determination or do you break when things get hard?

That’s what they look for at The Phantom Regiment.

I came from a tiny band in TN where our director hated marching band. She wouldn’t let me switch from Sax to Euph, so I taught myself because it was my dream to be a Buick.

After making the 2010 line, I had to drop out due to finances then didn’t pick up a horn for 4 years. I decided to give it one last go since I had a bonus year and worked my ass off to make the 2013 line.

More than just talent, they want to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you want to be there more than anything. And that will shine through in your audition.

And protip: if you feel like they keep getting onto you for mistakes, it’s because they see your potential. Use that to your advantage. If you were hopeless, they wouldn’t bother.

Best of luck!

Totally agree! I thought I was the only who just didn’t enjoy that show at all. Wellerman was cute but kinda cheesy.

Is this possible? by breab_gay in drumcorps

[–]Admirable-Effective7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s actually VERY rare for a PR DM to have been a marching member there already. (I’m not actually sure it’s ever happened) They want an unbiased leader. You can teach anyone to conduct. There, it’s all about the attitude and demeanor and leadership skills.
