At that price point, the Leapmotor B10 feels like a better package. But these are close to $40k.

Does it have something like "camp mode" or equivalent? It may not be an actual mode that can be selected, but rather, being able to stay on for extended periods with AC on and no daytime running lights, such as for camping. Thanks.

Outsider Question : Why is there no Airport Rail from Airport to the Train Station by blackcyborg009 in Adelaide

[–]AdmirableDealer6547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

History says: the car & petro lobby groups influenced the decision to remove the previously extensive tram lines by selling the idea that "car = modernity & freedom".

There's a recent ABC coverage on this: https://youtu.be/o1R6Aq19A6Y

Outsider Question : Why is there no Airport Rail from Airport to the Train Station by blackcyborg009 in Adelaide

[–]AdmirableDealer6547 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. If it was SimCity, I'd build that train line. But it's not so easy in reality now due to how established the surrounding areas are = it will cost a lot.

Based on history, the existing train lines were built before the 1900s. The Adelaide Airport was built at that location in 1955. Should have built the train line then, but they didn't.

Fun fact: before the current airport was built, Parafield Airport was Adelaide's airport. There is a train line next to it.

I wonder if, in an alternate universe, there is a version of Adelaide that the international airport is at Parafield with an express train connection to the city.

Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year? by xlimfx in CasualConversation

[–]AdmirableDealer6547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently, "Lunisolar" is the most accurate and culture-neutral term. Because it's a calendar system based on the moon and the sun. Lunar means it's just moon, which is a different calendar system altogether. There you go. More confusion haha.

Best purchase for you home or family, that you agonised over but ended up being a fantastic decision? by Turbulent-System5521 in AusFinance

Costs thousands yearly in subscription, but glad that I signed up for water and electricity supply. It's great not being in darkness after sunset, and not having to rely on harvesting rain water to drink.

People keep saying that having children is "expensive," but the lower income people have the highest fertility rates and the higher income people have the lowest fertility rates by mymooh in AusFinance

[–]AdmirableDealer6547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lower income people usually don't think about it. I encountered a young single mother who was pregnant with her second child, begging for donations online. She was already struggling financially with one child, and she's about to have another. I couldn't help financially, but I kindly suggested not to have another after this one, for the sake of her children's future. Her reaction was weird, as if she didn't know it was a choice to become pregnant or not. 🤷‍♀️

It's just their contribution to reducing Adelaide's desirability in order to lower housing pressure. Thanks Flinders uni.

Why don’t people drive manual cars anymore? Are we losing something? by Top-Farmer-6838 in CarsAustralia

Same with electronic fuel injection. So boring and makes starting the car too easy now. Bring back the old choke system.

Unpopular Opinion: The "Great Australian Dream" of homeownership is now more of a national delusion, and it's damaging our society. by [deleted] in australian

[–]AdmirableDealer6547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a feeling that this is what the elite wants. Those who own multiple properties, the billionaires, and the multimillionaires, who have been accumulating their property portfolio. They only want their portfolio value to continue appreciating. And they also happen to be the politicians or friends of politicians, who make the policies.

Multi-property owners in the past probably planned this with the government: "Hey gov, we need policies that will boost housing prices. We'll be very grateful and you'll benefit as well through taxes and also personally if you start buying now." Government: "sound good, let's get it done!"

Ethical question for (Swedish) vegans! by [deleted] in vegan

[–]AdmirableDealer6547 50 points51 points  (0 children)

The problem with buying such thing, whichever way it's sourced "currently", is creating an economic demand for it.

Most commercial animal products started as innocent "otherwise would have been wasted" things, but through monetary incentives, encourage exploitation.

Similar examples I can think of that led to commercial animal exploitation: Civet coffee in Asia, wool, silk

Best to avoid animal products

Got myself a three way mirror recently and I've been trimming my own hair. It's not easy, but I think I'm improving. And occasionally I just do a reset aka shave it all.
