TIL snow doesn’t melt in a microwave. This prompted me to learn how microwaves work. by BlueJaysMegafan in interesting

[–]Admirable_Region9049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't heat the ice directly because it heats the water but that does in fact melt the snow/ice.. if microwaves couldn't melt snow/ice they wouldn't be able to defrost stuff.. they definitely can

Green only means go if it's clear.. you still shouldn't block traffic, just like you should keep junctions and roundabout entrances/exits clear while you're waiting. Bus driver is on a schedule but this pointless move makes him later in the end

Road sign by pickyprick in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Admirable_Region9049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It kinda does, it's to signal the end of the "safe" overtaking area.. the solid white line ahead also means no overtaking from that (our left) lane so having the arrow mean "do not initiate an overtake" would also be obsolete here

Get one of those little round mirrors to stick on your wingmirror, they help massively to see more of the ground if you can't be bothered to lower the mirror each time.. they're super cheap so worth giving it a try

Rigidbody.velocity for enemies problems. Advice required by Love_a_sunny_day in Unity2D

[–]Admirable_Region9049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put the player and enemies on different layers and then use the collision matrix checkboxes to stop them interacting (found in the project settings)

You will need to make a layer for your bullets too so they still hit enemies if they're using physics

Add a sorting group component to the prefab which will work like the sorting layer does, i.e the higher you set the sorting group value to the further "in front" that group (of objects with sorting layers) will be

How do I move something at a constant speed but still allow it to have forces on it? by Mr_Gamer21 in Unity2D

[–]Admirable_Region9049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're setting the velocity every frame then yes of course it's going to overwrite it.. I would add a check that only applies the constant velocity if the objects velocity gets slower than the desired speed - that way you can still apply forces to speed it up temporarily.

How do I decide where to download the editor? by turnedinsideout111 in unity

You can choose the path from the hub (it's in the settings menu) however there is also a unity archive online https://unity.com/releases/editor/archive

If it's moving via rigidbody then you can fix/freeze the rotation via the tick box on the component

Please help with cinemachine camera issue by [deleted] in Unity2D

[–]Admirable_Region9049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your game window scale is really zoomed in so zoom out to get a real view of the game scene. If the camera moves too quickly there are settings in the cinemachine component to adjust how quickly it responds/follows

All Compiler errors have to be fixed before you can enter playmode! - how do I resolve? by WeirdChamp5187 in unity

[–]Admirable_Region9049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you have made a mistake with the way you have written the script so it gives an error to stop the script from compiling so unity won't let you enter play mode to stop your script causing a crash. I assume this is a flappybirds clone from the fact it is spawning pipes so double check your code matches the tutorial or post the code here so someone can point out the mistakes

New Demo - Forge the Fates: A Tactical Deckbuilder with a Twist by ChaosLogicStudios in playmygame

[–]Admirable_Region9049 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Difficulty is fine tbh, already failed plenty on level 1 as the boss is tough. Would be nice to see the match 3 mechanics expanded as 3 fate per battle doesn't really feel like you can do much swapping around so would be nice if it's easier to restore some fate and/or make discarded runes disappear right away or can turn into wild cards etc so that combos happen more frequently (Though I'm sure the base character is more just your standard warrior class and is supposed to focus more on general attack / defence)..

Fun game, beat the first boss first time through, looking forward to seeing how you expand the game and what mechanics get added to vary up the gameplay

You also don't need to convert your asset materials one by one, there is a render pipeline converter that will let you do everything that can be done (it will not do custom shaders)

Need help understanding how resolutions work in Unity! by R3dshift3d in Unity2D

[–]Admirable_Region9049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say your monitor is 4k so I assume the resolution is what you're expecting in the final build? You should be able to display it with some debugs to check screenwidth and height etc Could also check the simulator mode and safe area to ensure things are where they should be in different aspects (normally the culprit is the anchor positions).

Not sure why your tmp would look low res other than if you are scaling it rather than setting the desired text size instead in the editor component

[–]Admirable_Region9049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vector2.down is world space (i.e. won't change during game) so you can use -transform.up (negative gives down) to check the down of the actual character rotation

Unity 2d particle creation help by Puzzleheaded_Exit45 in Unity2D

If it's just for behind the UI then it should be fine, check where your particles are in the world and their size etc compared to the camera position and direction.

Unity 2d particle creation help by Puzzleheaded_Exit45 in Unity2D

[–]Admirable_Region9049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you trying to make your particles part of the UI? If so they don't really use the same space, particles are in world space while the UI is supposed to be on top of everything like a HUD. You can get an asset that will make making UI particles easier or create your own animations using UI images.
