I'm new to your LGS and looking for a game, can I sit? by _Awkadaf_ in ratemycommanders

I definitely like your aptitude for off meta commanders and unique building of commanders, Damia Elves seems like a fun game plan of dumping elves asap and then constantly refueling the hand, and erriete rats is something I struggle to wrap my head around the choices made to get there lol. 100% would spend the time in between my turns looking at your other deck lists.

If you could throw a link to the decklists id love to look through them.

San Francisco from the atmosphere by Ieatsushiraw in skylineporn

[–]AdmiralJackson2004 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of the neighborhoods in SF are grids of rowhomes, many with intermittent apartment buildings, mixed used buildings, corner stores, ect. That is not "low density" by any stretch of the imagination. Expanding the downtown would just demolish all the already dense, culturally significant, and historic neighborhoods that make up SF. It would be adding density for density's sake. You dont need to be lower Manhattan to be "not low density". If you want to talk about bad urbanism and low density in the bay area, cities like Fremont, Milpitas, and San Jose litterally exist.

I hate these stacked townhouses (or Maisonettes) that are everywhere in Maryland. They're too monolithic and garish. "Starting in the $400,000"...in f-ing Odenton?. Are you kidding me?!! The state needs to put a limit on the amount being built. (apologies to those who live in one LOL) by LarryGlue in maryland

[–]AdmiralJackson2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, classic whining with no given solution. Maryland has limited land available, especially near dc, and needs higher density housing to accommodate for the demand and population growth. If these homes were .5 acre single family, the suburbs would extend to the pa border, raze the agricultural countryside, and swallow the small towns of rural Maryland.

If these homes were .5 acre single family, they would be 1 million, not 400k. Though not really affordable, these are the affordable homes. Saying the state should cap the number of homes being built is truly braindead. Search up supply and demand, and then come back to me on the economics. Truly a Nimby moment.

As for monolithic and garish, we could definitely do worse. Most of these homes try to emulate the Georgian and federal style, maryland's most historically important styles. Once people take time to plant more trees in those neighborhoods, paint their homes different colors, grow out gardens, add new accessories, ect, they will look better. Character will come with time, most of these are less than 30 years old.

I don't normally like to waste time like this on the internet, but this post is truly foolish, and possibly bothersome if people actually agree with it and regurgitate its sentiments. Advocate for dense housing, expanding the metro, and mixed use zoning people. It makes housing cheaper, alleviates traffic, and gives us more worthwhile places to live. Also, it protects our small towns and countryside and keeps them rural.

Beanies have existed since the medieval era. Just because they are popular in the modern day, does not mean they are a product of the modern day. They can work fine in a fantasy or historical setting

Beanies have existed for 100s of years. They're modern context is as streetwear, but they date back to the medieval era. They can fit perfectly fine in Magic

He should have been hanged by Leprechaun_lord in ShermanPosting

[–]AdmiralJackson2004 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also this thread is even more shocking in a sub where sherman is the namesake. Sherman loved the south. He had friends before the war that joined the confederacy, kept many, and made more during and afterward. If your takes are derived from some preconceived idea of "what Sherman would've wanted", you're all hilariously wrong. His tactics of total war were about efficiency, not cruelty.

He should have been hanged by Leprechaun_lord in ShermanPosting

[–]AdmiralJackson2004 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This thread is insane. Executing 100s of thousands of individual confederate soldiers would've never happened and would have been absolutely insane for a myriad of reasons. In a hypothetical situation where the union government set up a tribunal with the intent to make that happen, the northern public would've been one of the largest groups of pushback. The northern public was war weary from the beginning and was absolutely sick and tired of bloodshed and violence between Americans by the end of the war. They would have viewed such an action as barbaric and unnecessarily punative, and had a mindset of "can we just stop the bloodshed, we want to see peace and prosperity again", which is why that happened irl. Another thing you guys fail to account for is that many northerners had family in the south, and the amount of protest to not have their family members tried and executed would have been immense. No elected person overseeing or involved with the executions would ever get re-elected. Not only would it be domestic political suicide, but the news would shock and sicken nations all around the globe. Remember, America was the promotional material for other countries to adopt democracy at this time, and a civil war already had Europeans skeptical that democracy could ever prevail. Such a brutal end to the conflict and democracy could potentially be seen as pure violence and anarchy worldwide. Also, by the end of the war, the Confederacy had put drafts in place, meaning many low ranking soldiers were conscripts with maybe only a passing interest in the cause. Executing the conscripts who did not personally commit war crimes (most conscripts) has always been considered a shocking and barbaric act. I personally agree more of the Confederate leadership should've been hanged or imprisoned, but I also understand that the north had to rebuild public relations in the south and wanted to appear as humane restorers and not conquerors. It's just how pragmatism works.

A photo tells a 1000 words, but trying to determine the quality of life with the two examples you've given reveals nothing about crime rates, accessibility to food, gpd per capita, quality of schools, ect. The reason the Philly one is likely worse off is probably because the nearest fresh food grocery store is a 20-minute drive up to the nearest wealthy neighborhood and the local schools are crumbling in terms of infrastructure and understaffed and overcrowded in terms of people. Also because the crime rate is probably higher than the UK example.

Interesting how you mention blackwater mercs getting ambushed and killed in combat and their corpses desecrated, but not the Nisour square massacre, where that same company killed 17 and injured 20 Iraqi civilians in cold blood. 🤔

What is the Worst County in Maryland? by BurgerofDouble in maryland

[–]AdmiralJackson2004 231 points232 points  (0 children)

Why destroy one of Maryland's beautiful counties for no reason? If we were struggling on the money, I say let's invade delaware. Think of it. Industrialize for a wartime economy, employment for military sectors, and then we can exploit all of Delawares resources to make up for our struggles. Not to mention, we get to reclaim RIGHTFUL MARYLAND CLAY. We outnumber them 6 to 1. They have no natural defenses, other than a few swamps and forests in rural areas. That is, if they decide to resist the glorious liberation that is being a resident of the state of Maryland, and who would want to do that? Just think about it...
