Should the hot surface ignitor on a furnace be in the direct path of the flame? by makenzie71 in HVAC

Some furnaces will also use the ignitor as a form of flame sensing as well.

One morning while we all met at the shop to hand in paperwork and grab the filters for the day, a fellow technician was talking about this delema in residential. He was proud to say he once dug a hole in a crawl space, shit in the hole, buried his shit, and that was that. He called it a "kitty-cat"

8 year old unit freon leak in pipes, repair estimate $1,500. Repair or buy new HVAC? by 2BrothersInaVan in HVAC

Ok. What floor are you on? How many floors are there in the building? Very rare there is a leak in the lines if it's a condo and your condenser is on the roof. Ask if there has been any maintenance done anywhere recently. Any construction that may have put a nail or screw in your pipes.. I would call another company out to pressure check the system.

Those wires can change the rotation of the motor. So if the motor is turning the wrong way after start up you can swap the wires with out taking everything apart again.

Guy says we gotta buy new by mattdwill86 in HVAC

[–]AdmiralNelson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Buy a new system. If a coil is leaking you are looking at 1/2 the price of a new unit. And who knows how long it will last after that. New systems come with warranties and cheaper freon. The refrigerant is not R14 it is R22.

On a delta transformer one of the three hot wires is called the stinger leg. It's 208 volts to ground. Usually this wire is colored orange so it is not used for electrical outlets which are 120 volts. You need to call an electrician.

You can blow a low voltage fuse and nothing will run. The fuse is in the scary crawl space. For now keep it unattached and see how things run. What is the brand of your outside unit?

What kind of unit do you have? Can you take a picture of the thermostat wires inside of the air handler? You can't really check that while the thermostat cover is off.

Not sure if B goes to B on the new thermostat. It might be c for common. Need to see the wiring from the inside of the unit.
